Hi all. :wave2:

I just bought the Art of Disney Past, Present and Forever cross stitch kit and I have a few questions about it. First of all, I must say that I know how to cross stitch, but I think I'm missing an essential gene that allows me to finish a project, because I've never finished a large project in my life. :rolleyes1 I will finish this one, though -- I will! :cheer2:

Anyway, the cloth for this is H U G E!!! I bought a large plastic hoop to hold it, but will that be enough? And what do I do with the dangling sides? Roll them up? I've never attempted anything this big before. I've tried using a quilter's type frame before, but I didn't like them.

I'd appreciate any tips you can give me to get started on this thing. I've been home from WDW with it for a week now, but I'm too overwhelmed to know where to begin.

Well at least you are thinking about starting it....I've been back for over a month now and haven't even taken mine out of the package! But it is neat looking.

I know the thing is very very big!! My mom bought one for me but I have to finish my Happiest Celebration on Earth first :)

Is the fabric 14 count? I usually buy a quality fabric rahter than what comes with the kits in either 16 or 18 ct as I prefer the smaller stitches. Anyway you can put frey check around the sides so it doesn't fray or put masking tape just make sure you have enough extra on the sides for framing etc. Then you can just fold it under/roll it up as you stitch. Just be sure to remove your hoop frame and not leave it on for any long duration otherwise it will leave a round circle crease that is hard to get out.

I have this cross stitch and it is half done but at the moment i am finishing The Barbershop Quartet. It takes a while to work out where to begin in the top left hand corner, not used to doing them like this( usually start in the middle). I to use an 8inch plastic hoop and find it adequate to hold the material. The extra material i just roll up so that it is comfortable to hold. If you do manage to finish it you will be more than pleased with your work. I have finished Mickey Salutes America, Family Dinner ,Self Potrait,Puppy Love and Cinderella's Castle which are framed and hung on the walls. I have only one missing and that is the one with the fireman, the rest are waiting to be done. Happy stitching.

I have that cross stitch in one of the wooden frames.I tried to just hold it and there was just way too material.I didnt want to use a hoop.

Are these patterns that you bought at WDW? If so where?
Thanks for your help.

Yes, most of these can be bought in DTD Marketplace at the World of Disney Store or at the Art of Disney stores, there is one in DTD, MGM, and Epcot.

Here is a link that shows all the patterns available.
You can't buy from this site as they are only sold at WDW.

Wow, really? I am happy to know this. But it is so ironic, living only an hour away from disney and having season passes, I have never seen cross stitch patterns or kits sold in any of the stores. But now that I have it boiled down to specific stores, I will have to write these down and go take a look. Many times we go to that area for other reasons and stop in at DTD. So thank you for the information from me too.

Hi Marseeya. This is my first post here! I hate having excess "bulk" all around me, too. One of the things that I've done is to use big "chip bag clips." (I use new, never used on potato chip ones!). you can clip all the extra fabric together and it's out of the way. You can sometimes clip it to the hoop or Qsnap and then it's even more out of the way. For me, it makes things much easier, and I've never had any problem with it damaging my thread or fabric. Though I'm always careful to make sure that only the wrong side of the fabric is clipped.
