How exciting! We just got our flights booked last night for our trip this fall. The countdown has started again!

I feel your excitement! We've started our countdown already. Over the weekend, we were 60 days from our arrival, so we made our priority seatings at Blue Bayou and Goofy's Kitchen.

We're spending 3 weeks in July, driving down the coast and going all the way to San Diego, hitting a lot of beaches, DL, and Universal. Like you, we're also going to San Francisco.

Happy trip planning...that's almost just as fun as the trip itself!

Its so great when you have something offical in hand, it just makes it that more exciting

Fellow Toronto gal here.

We just came back from California. We stayed two weeks. Landed in LAX, did Disneyland, Hollywood, Pasadena, drove up the Pacific Coast Highway, toured Hearst Castle, stayed in Monterey then on to San Francisco for 3 days then flew out from there. Awesome vacation. It was our first time to California. You will have an excellent time.

Any questions, just ask!

Hi all,
Thanks for the comments. We are going first week of Aug. on Air Canada. We are flying into LA and flying out of San Francisco. Both direct flights for decent rates. I have never been to California and so looking forward to it. There is so much to see - not sure where to start planning. Disneyland is of course on our list. We are staying at Disneyland Hotel. My hubby just bought the Lonely Planet guide to California. Planning to rent a van and drive aroubd. I would love to hear your trip experiences if you have been there before. Is Universal worth it? I heard the Florida one is actually better? Also, how much time should I devote to Hollywood and area? Anyone else planning and what attractions are on your list?

We devoted one day to Hollywood and area and it was plenty. Although the kids were most excited about going to Hollywood, I think they were quite bored when we got there. We didn't do an official tour of the stars home as I had wanted (the kids would have been bored as it's a two hour tour) but bought a $5.oo map and toured a bit ourselves. Drove up Rodeo Drive, Sunset Blvd. Went shopping at the Hollywood and Highland Centre where we took pictures with the Hollywood sign in the background.

We didn't go to Universal but have been to Universal in Florida which is great.

Random thoughts:

The Pacific Coast Highway is awesome but if you are afraid of heights like I am it is a bit of a challenge to drive through. (I was a passenger, not the driver)

We only did 2 days in Disneyland and should have done 3. Even though the crowds were quite light we ended up not having the time to do all we wanted to do.

Stayed at the Best Western Monterey Beach Resort for one night. Paid $250.00 for an ocean view room. Not worth the money IMO. Room was clean but very dated as is the rest of the hotel.

San Francisco deserves more than the 3 days that we gave it as well. We loved it there. Took a cruise around Alcatraz and under the Golden Gate Bridge (loved it), went to the Aquarium of the Bay (which I thought was small and not really worth the money). Also went to the Exploratorium which is a hands on science centre. The kids loved it. Walked through Chinatown where we got a lot of very cheap souvenirs. Went shopping around Union Square and loved it.

Any questions, just ask away!

Our 3-week trip covers these places:

1. Anaheim - 3 DL/CA park days, shopping trip to South Coast Plaza

2. Huntington Beach - 2 days chilling at the beach with the kids at the Hyatt Huntington Beach Resort and Spa

3. San Diego - 5 days to visit friends in Carlsbad, shopping at the Carlsbad factory outlet, Coronado Beach, Balboa Park, Wild Animal Park, La Jolla Beach.

4. Universal City - 2 days to visit Universal Studios, The Grove, Farmer's Market, Santa Monica Beach

5. San Francisco - Fisherman's Wharf, Alcatraz, Napa/Sonoma wineries

Then we head into Oregon to visit the Oregon Coast (Cannon Beach, Florence).
