Questions:
I'm literally an old pro from wdw days when my kids were young. Been out of the action for awhile. And genie has happened. Ugh! x 1,000!!!
We are going to spend 1 day at DL...
we don't do thriller rides any more, just simple pleasure ones. at wdw we'd do peter pan, buzz, haunted mansion, pirates etc.
Do I need to figure out this genie?
Just me and dh.
We can be there at rope drop.
Like to leave early afternoon and back for night lights and fireworks.
Please share any rides or thoughts or a schedule you might suggest.
Really want to soak in the differences and the Christmas decorations. I know Jan 8 is it for them.
Late planning.

I personally don’t think you would need Genie if you aren’t interested in the thrill rides. Most of the slower, dark rides don’t even offer Genie. If you start in Fantasyland at rope drop and just work your way through them as you come to them, I don’t think you will have any trouble. We the loved the “original” rides. Crowd patterns are so different here than WDW. The only ride I could really imagine having much of a wait would be the Haunted Mansion overlay for the holidays. But I don’t know that I would buy Genie just for that. Let me know if you have any other questions. If it was just DH and me, I would start in Fantasyland at rope drop, then head towards Adventureland/pirates/HM. I really don’t think you can go wrong! I’m not sure on the AP calendar. If they are unblocked you may have a few more crowds, but if you will move quickly that morning and then slower in the afternoon enjoying the ambience, I think you’ll be just fine!
