Hi guys- We just returned from our trip that included our 6-month-old who was not quite ready for a high chair. While planning for the trip, I asked you guys for some advice on how to seat her in the restaurants and I got tons of great info. I promised to provide an update on what worked when we returned.

DD is able to sit on the floor and balance herself with her hands between her legs for a few seconds (like 5-10), but no way ready to sit alone in a wooden restaurant high chair. She has already outgrown her infant car seat, so that wasn’t an option. We found 2 restaurants, Chef Mickey’s and Crystal Palace had actual infant high chairs. These were such a blessing. We asked everywhere, and these were the only two places that had them. (Places that didn’t were LTT, Hoop Dee Doo, ‘Ohana, CRT, PSB, and Mama Melrose).

I originally bought one of these: http://store.yahoo.com/leachco/13505.html I bought on eBay for $1.15 and I’m glad I didn’t pay more. It might work in a shopping cart or slatted chair, but wouldn’t fit around the frame of a wood highchair.

I then bought one of these: http://www.epinions.com/kifm-B-BEquip-APC-Bouncers-Fisher_Price_Pop-Up_Play_Seat Someone on these boards recommended it and it was great for this purpose. It’s basically a portable bouncy seat. It folds up small enough to carry around the parks in your stroller or diaper bag. If you have a small baby, this is a great idea. Fisher Price doesn’t make them anymore, so I had to get one off of eBay. I’ve seen a few pop-up there.

A few days before we left, I found one of these at a baby consignment sale. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000056JOZ/ref=nosim/ibabystuff-20/102-7959943-2631327 It gave her the extra support she needed to sit in a regular highchair. As long as she wasn’t sleepy, it worked great. I would only recommend this for babies who can sit, at least a little, on their own. She would not have been able to use this a few weeks ago. These may be hard to find. After I bought it as the consignment sale, I searched all over the web for them and couldn’t find one anywhere. Here’s an old epinions review in which the author indicates she got one at babies r us. http://www.epinions.com/content_1301061764

Sorry this has gotten so long. You guys were so helpful so I’m hoping this helps someone else.

Thank you!!!!!! I will be going with an almost 5 mo. old at the end of the month, and I have been worrying about this. She can't sit up on her own yet.

I'm going to try and find the portable bouncy seat. It can't hurt, right?

Thanks!

I think I was the one who recommended this to you, and I'm glad it worked out!! We really liked ours, and I didn't think they were made anymore. I'm glad you had a GREAT trip!!!

Thanks, Leslie! I'd love to do that - check your PM.

we are going in a few weeks...our baby will be 7 weeks old....what did you do about PS? did you make them with your baby included? or did you just make the ps for the people who could actually "sit".
i've been debating this for months now!!!:)
on some of our ps i included her, some i didn't we have a party of 8 w/o including the baby!
thanks.

Disney counts infants because they are still taking room at the table

We went last month w/ our 5.5 month old who also couldn't sit in a wooden highchair. We made it work by either having him in a sling or Baby Bjorn, or my DH and I took turns holding him. It really wasn't that big of a deal. Just wanted to throw this out there in case anyone is wondering if they can do it without buying special equipment (not that there's anything wrong with that, but I know it would have been useless to try because DS doesn't like strollers, bouncy seats, etc.--I'd rather have him happy in my lap than fussy in a seat).

did you include you baby in the ps? or did yall just walk up w/ him in a sling? thanks for the input!

I included him in the PS--I just told them we had 4 adults, a toddler and a baby. HTH!

akrake-Why don't you just call WDW Dining and ask them?

riggins,
Your information is very helpful as we will be traveling with our 3 and 1/2 month old ds in December. Can you tell me what size the pop-up play seat folds down to and how did you carry it around the parks? Would it fit into a very large diaper bag or did you stash it under the stroller in the basket?

and some reps say to include her, some do not....it just depends on the restaurant....
i've included her now, but that means in some locations we have to have 2 tables & can not be guaranteed that they will be near each other.....a big bummer when traveling with another family! i think with the "magical gatherings" promo that they will encounter this alot.

Hi Belle5-
Here is the link to pictures of the one that I bought. The 2nd picture down shows what it looks like folded.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=2990&item=2344676059

Its about 10 inches wide, 15-18 inches tall, and about 2-3 inches thick. Its not really small, but small enough to carry around. It fit fine in our stroller basket or our bookbag (we used it instead of a traditional diaper bag b/c it was easier to carry).

Let me know if you need more info.

-Leslie
