We were at DL from Saturday, June 7 through Tuesday, June 10.

Saturday we checked into the Del Sol and had a down day to rest up and do laundry (we'd already had a week in California).

Del Sol: not really too impressed for the price. The room was clean and really big, otherwise it was nothing special. I really think your paying for the location. Parking is additional, but internet is included.

Crowds:

I have to agree with everyone else and say the parks were slammed. We went Saturday night (which we expected to be bad) all day Sunday (also expected to be bad), all day Monday and then half a day Tuesday.

I thought crowds would let up Monday, but they really didn't. Tuesday was the same. I thought I had read on the boards that 7 am magic hours were the absolute best and were empty. We used ours Tuesday and it was packed. We had a 20 minute wait for PP and when we were done all the other fantasyland dark rides had long looking lines. We walked by the Matterhorn and it was down, even though there were a lot of people in line. ST was down as well so we went on Buzz twice with 5 minute waits.

Not sure if the rehab of Space and Alice and the fact that Matterhorn and ST were down made the morning hour busier, but it was pretty bad.

Food:

-corn dogs were great as usual but we waited 20 minutes at 7 pm

-Cafe Orleans: amazing food, we saw a ton of Monte Cristo's being delivered, do yourself a favor and try a different dish. We got the salmon sandwich and the sea food crepe, both were amazing.

-Plaza Inn: after having hundreds of meals in WDW and DL, this was the absolute worst ever. We ate at 10 because I didn't wait to miss the earlier park hours and shorter lines. The following characters were there: Chip, Dale, Fairy Godmother, Hook, Pooh, Eeyore, Tigger, Max, Rafiki, Minnie and maybe a few others I forget. First, I thought the food was pretty near awful, with the exception of the fruit and the mickey waffles. I'm not picky with food usually, but I couldn't eat a lot of it. We were stuck in a corner in the restaurant, and a lot of characters skipped us and the other two tables (that had lots of kids) that were in the corner with us. We told some random CMs, and they said they'd tell the character attendants but the characters never came back. So we never got to see Chip, Dale, Fairy Godmother, Max, Minnie and we basically had to chase down Eeyore on our way out.
I don't think I would have hated it so much if the food were edible. But it is bad enough when you pay a premium to see characters and most of them skip you, when the food is awful that is the final straw. We complained on the way out about the characters and basically got a shrug in return.

-Storytellers Cafe bfast: we scheduled this for our final morning because we had been so let down by Plaza Inn. This was probably the best bfast I have had at a Disney park or hotel. The food was amazing, its also the only buffet I've ever seen offer eggs benedict. The characters were all also amazing, they were playful and spent plenty of time at our table (we saw Brer Bear, Chip, Dale, and the brother bears).

-Big Thunder Ranch BBQ: amazing meal as usual, no complaints. Just make sure to go in hungry.

Characters:

we usually aren't big character people, but our last trip to WDW we really got into them so we decided to meet a lot at DL. I think our best interactions were at the Big Thunder Ranch area, we got to meet Rabbit, Brer Rabbit and Bear, Mickey, Minnie, Roger Rabbit, Baloo and Thumper. They were all super playful and fun.

We also got to meet Donald on his birthday.

We really wanted to meet Steamboat Willie, and they have 4 Mickeys back in his house. The character attendant was really great and had us wait aside until they were ready to load Steamboat Willie's room.

Tips:

Don't forget to stay after Rapunzel and Belle's stories. I think they usually come out for meet and greats after their first 2 performances of the day. We got to meet Rapunzel and Flynn with only 2 other families.

We did the F! dessert package, and I really don't think it was necessary. We had seats for the first showing. The second showing we walked by and we could have walked right up and had been able to see. Granted, we don't have kids, but I am 5'2 and usually have trouble being able to see.

If you have must dos, try to get them done the first day so you don't miss out.

If the parks have really long hours like they did for us (8 am until midnight) and you don't feel like taking a hotel break, save all the shows and walk on attractions for midday, we did this Sunday and felt refreshed. We saw: Mickey and the Magical Map, Mr. Lincoln, Tiki Room, the train and so on.

Any questions?

We had a similar experience at the Plaza Inn. It's disappointing to pay that much for suck lackluster interaction and food.

You saw Thumper?! I don't think I've ever seen that character out. Do you have a picture?

Thank you for the feedback!!!:thumbsup2

Sorry your MM didn't turn out the way you hoped(Console yourself with the thought that an 8:00am or 9:00am MM would have been even more hideous---Promise!!!!!) At least you didn't have to wait 40 or 60 minutes for Peter Pan(ugh!)

I've heard/read the same disappointments about Plaza Inn Character Breakfast---that stinks!

Thanks for the tip about waiting around after Belle's and Rapunzle's stories!

We love the seafood crepe, and Big Thunder Ranch BBQ as well.

In spite of the crowds, it sounds like you had a nice trip!:)

We love the Eggs Benedict at Storytellers and the character interaction!:cool1:

We've done the Minnie and Friends breakfast three times, the most recent time was this March. Like others have reported recently, the character interactions there which used to be the absolute best have gone downhill and are now not that great. The food the last time was ok but not fantastic.

We are probably done with character meals now but even if we were to do another one, we would absolutely skip M&F and instead go to one of the others.

Thanks for the tips! We have reservations for Plaza Inn breakfast tomorrow....I'm kind of worried about that. It's an early one though, but I'm still nervous. I probably should have aimed for a later time but it's too late now. Thanks for the tip about Fantasy Faire and Tangled, my girls love Rapunzel and Flynn so hopefully we'll get to see them tomorrow.

SO happy to hear Thumper is still at BTR! Yay!!! My DS4 is totally obsessed with Thumper right now. I sure hope he's still there when we go next month!

Thanks for sharing! :thumbsup2

I do have a picture! Let me try to get it uploaded. I think Thumper was out because they were still doing the springtime/easter rabbit character rotation.

We had an excellent trip! Even though we have bad things happen at the Disney parks, I always find my trips enjoyable overall :thumbsup2

Best character breakfast ever! Dale stole Kenai's fish and they were chasing it each other all around. Really fun.

This is really unfortunate, I chose that breakfast because of the abundance of characters and the chance to get random, maybe rare, characters.

I really hadn't heard all the bad reports before we left, I wish I had.

Just try to go to the first showing and don't get your girls too excited about it. The attendant will warn you that they don't always come out. Just have a seat on one of the benches and wait, I think they came out within 10 minutes.

I hope he will be too, I think those characters were billed as a special springtime thing, but who knows. I didn't think they'd still be there when we went.

We were there June 1-6. We did the Surf's Up breakfast on the 4th. The food was WONDERFUL and Stitch was AMAZING. It was one of the highlights of my DS's trip. We usually go to WDW but if we ever get a chance to return to DLR we will definitely do Surf's Up again!

That is to bad about M&F Breakfast. When we went in January it was amazing! The food was fresh and tasty. The characters were hilarious and so interactive! Some of our best memories, we did Goofys Breakfast also and found it to be not as good. I guess each experience and time is different.

Glad you had a magical time!

We had the same experience at Minnie's last December. Super crowded. Poor food. Lousy service. Mediocre character interaction. I spoke with the manager and he was indifferent to the experiences of his guests. I am going to try Storyteller's breakfast this December. You good review is encouraging.

I am sure we have had to have passed each other as we were at DLR 4 days between June 4 and June 11.

Yes; it was "slammed"!

Here you go, me and Thumper!

I'll keep Surf's Up in mind. Sounds like all the hotel breakfasts and character meals are better than the Plaza Inn.

I am glad you had a good time, you are right, anytime has the potential to be great or horrible.

I hope Storytellers works out for you! Its not a good thing when even the management doesn't care. I wonder if its a 'we are going to fill all the tables either way, so why should we care' thing.

I bet we did pass each other! Did you still have a good time even though it was super busy?

My family had a great time at M&F on Tuesday morning. We all thought the food was good and the character interactions great. We had 7 characters rotating through and we got them all no problem, including a rare picture with 6 of them at once at the very end of breakfast. (They had assembled for a pic with a CM on their last day--we got lucky and they let us do one right after.)

I was in that closed Matterhorn line Tuesday morning--we wound up waiting for it since test cars had just started running and the only other FL attraction we needed was Pan and it was already at 50 minutes when we checked. I think we boarded at about 7:45a. We did Pan later in the day at a posted 40, but probably took 30-35.

I agree Disneyland "felt" crowded, but we had a wonderful time and still managed to get some 20+ attractions done on at least 2 of our 4 full days.

We just returned for our first DLR trip. We are WDW regulars and were so excited to go to DLR!! All I can say is Wow!! We loved it!! Of course there were things we liked better about wdw, but there were several things we liked better about DLR.

Loved Fantasmic...this tops the wdw show and I didn't think that was possible!!

The Fireworks show was truly amazing...flying dumbo and tinker bell!!

Alladin the Musical was truly outstanding!!!

Maleficent instead of its tough to be a bug was a great change!!

Toy Story, Soarin, Cal Streamin, Grizzly River Run (although not open on our trip), RSR, and Tower of Terror...all in the same park??? Totally Awesome!!!

Cars land was all It was cracked up to be and more!!! You must do RSR at sunset or dark!! What a great ride!!

The Corn Dogs are to die for!!

Matterhorn kinda disappointed us...

World of Color was very cool and unique, we just didn't have a great viewing point but doesn't hold a candle to Fantasmin in my opinion.

Park hoping was excellent and the fast pass system was like it used to be at wdw...we were great foul and utilized the fast passes...really like that cal Streamin and RSR are not connected.

Don't understand why Toy story does not have a fast pass.....

Was not the least bit disappointed in Disneyland!! There was plenty of magic and the light on in the window above the fire dept adds a special touch.

Thank you all for your input over the last several months...you helped make our first trip to Disneyland a magical success!!

myers2170, that is wonderful that you enjoyed DLR so much! Just shhhhhhhh don't spread the word!!!! DLR is a wonderful Disney secret and I fear it's going to get more popular due to FP+ at WDW!

Seriously, though I love your report and OhioStateBuckeye's, too! :goodvibes

Don't understand why Toy story does not have a fast pass.....

There are quite a few rides, such as Peter Pan and Pooh, that have FP at WDW but not at DL. This may be due in part to ride capacity (more rides per park means less wait time), but I also know with Pete Pan there isn't really room. Toy Story is newer, so I guess they could have made room. BUT the wait time, long as it is, isn't as bad as WDW.

Are you doing a trip report or at least some sort of write up? I'd love to read what you thought of DL since you are such a WDW expert :thumbsup2

I really like the Peter Pan and Hook fight in DL's F! Its really great how they can utilize the ship. It feels like we are in the movie.

Matterhorn kind of disappointed us too. Way too bumpy.

Last trip we managed to be in Carsland when they turn the lights on. That is the best. They play the 'riding' song from the movie that they listen to when the neon is turned on.

I'm so happy you had a great time! If you like little details like the light being on, you should take the Walk in Walt's Footsteps tour next time! (there will be a next time, right??)

Even though there isn't room at Peter Pan for FP, I doubt it could handle it. Its not even a continual loader like WDW's. Each ship stops for the people to get on, I feel like FP would make that unbearable to wait in the standby.

I think I will be doing a TR, though I'm not going to be starting it for a week or two yet. :goodvibes
