We just got back from a 10 day trip and dined at several counter and full service restaurants during our stay. I recently developed a dairy allergy, so there will be some information about how that was handled as well. And of course, feel free to ask any questions, I'll be happy to answer you! :)

Animal Kingdom

Flame Tree Barbeque-We had been meaning to try this place for a while now, but usually couldn't drag ourselves away from Tusker House. Well, we finally did, lol, and I'm glad! I had the smoked chicken breast sandwich, which came with corn on the cob and baked beans. The chicken was good, a grilled breast covered in dry spices. The baked beans were also good, albeit a bit sweet. My boyfriend had the pulled pork sandwich, which came with the same accompaniments as mine. He enjoyed it, although found it a bit dry. He solved the problem by putting the beans on the sandwich, lol.

MGM Studios

Hollywood and Vine-We did the Fantasmic dinner package here. Because of the allergy, the chef came out and took us around the buffet line to show us what was "safe" for me to eat and what was not. He also kindly offered to make me anything I wanted if it normally contained dairy (i.e.-plain salmon or potatoes, etc). I didn't need to take him up on the offer, as there was plenty to eat! One thing about this buffet, is that many of the menu items are very sweet, so if you’re diabetic or just don’t care for that type of thing, watch out. We had sausage and peppers-good, tasted like it was andouille sausage; steak that was marinated in wine-excellent, very tender and a little sweet; vegetable lo mein-very good, had a very sweet sauce; sweet potatoes with a root beer glaze-yummy, very unusual-my boyfriend didn’t care for them, but I really liked them; there were also grilled veggies and assorted salads. I couldn’t eat most of the salads, but my boyfriend reports that they were good, particularly a potato salad made with bleu cheese. For dessert the chef brought me a bowl of rice dream. Since they have an ice cream bar, I was able to add strawberry sauce and nuts, making it very tasty! My boyfriend had the regular soft serve ice cream, vanilla and chocolate. There are plenty of toppings available-nuts, chocolate sauce, strawberry sauce, sprinkles and all kinds of candy. Overall, we enjoyed our meal and would definitely do it again.

Backlot Express-We had lunch here one day. One pet peeve was that this place didn’t open until 11:30 and there were several people waiting. Anyway, I had the sesame chicken salad which had grilled chicken, greens, noodles, and mandarin oranges. The dressing was good-a sweet sesame type thing. My boyfriend had the grilled turkey and cheese sandwich, which came on toasted grain bread with roasted red peppers and arugula. He enjoyed the sandwich and was happy to have a nice choice that wasn’t something fried.

Dip Site-We got a pina colada flavored sno cone to share while watching the Indiana Jones show. It was very refreshing and quite big!

Hollywood Hills Theatre-I got a bucket of the fresh caramel corn to eat while watching Fantasmic. (Yes, we had just done the dinner a couple of hours ago, but this is vacation!) It was delicious, but very hard to track down. We actually had to go down to where the regular Fantasmic entrance is and buy it from a vendor there. We were told that the walk-around vendors also carry it, but we didn’t see anyone with it.

Epcot

Fountainview Bakery-I got an espresso here one day. It wasn’t that great-very bitter and I actually had to add sugar to it.

Le Cellier-We stopped in here for lunch one day-luckily we avoided a huge downpour. It started raining after we got inside and finished not too long after we left. The chef was nice enough to bring out an ingredient list for the breads. It turned out that the only off-limits one was the sourdough, but the multigrain and pretzel were fine. That’s ok, the pretzel is by far the best one anyway, lol! I had the asian shrimp cocktail and the beefsteak tomato stack as my meal. My boyfriend had the beef barley soup and the mixed field greens salad with grilled chicken. They brought us the tomato and the soup first. The tomato was delicious—a thick tomato cut into slices with spinach and mushrooms between each layer. Balsamic vinegar garnished the plate, as well as the layers. My boyfriend’s soup was also good-very hearty. Next were the shrimp and salad. The shrimp cocktail is presented very charmingly, with spicy coleslaw filling a Chinese food takeout container flipped on its side. The small shrimp spill out of the box and onto the plate. I’d say there are probably a dozen or so shrimp. The shrimp are very tasty, just a bit spicy. My boyfriend liked his salad, which consisted of mixed greens, pecans, and bleu cheese, with vinaigrette dressing.

Nine Dragons-We did the Taste of China lunch, which is quite different than it used to be. You get less items and it’s not all you can eat anymore. We started with the soup-there is a choice of hot and sour or wonton. I chose the hot and sour and my boyfriend had the wonton. Both soups were very good. Next they bring out bowls of white rice and plates with cashew shrimp, honey sesame chicken, and pepper beef. The chicken is excellent, very different from what you typically get. It has a honey flavored, sticky sauce on it and is just addicting! The shrimp was good, and the beef was okay, definitely our least favorite item. For dessert they just bring you fortune cookies. We enjoyed the lunch, but wished the menu was the old one.

Pure and Simple-Just grabbed a bowl of chili here. It was good, probably the same stuff you’d find anywhere in WDW.

Sommerfest-We got a couple of soft pretzels here on various days. They are SO good, they remind me of the pretzel bread at Le Cellier! We also got a side of sauerkraut. Their sauerkraut is really tasty, with bits of meat in it.

Sunshine Season Food Fair-We got a couple of huge rice krispy treats from the bakery counter here. They were good, but we would have been better off sharing one because they were sooo big! They were a little too buttery for my taste, with a THICK layer of butter underneath.

Tangierine Café-I got a Moorish coffee here, which is an espresso with spices. I believe they add rose water, nutmeg and cinnamon. It was very good, and not too bitter.

Magic Kingdom

Aloha Isle-Dole Whips!!! I am VERY HAPPY that these are non-dairy. I had a pineapple/vanilla diet coke float and my boyfriend got a chocolate/vanilla diet coke float. What else can I say but YUM?

Auntie Gravity’s-We hadn’t really noticed this place before, but happened to see it one day. My boyfriend had a float made with low fat soft serve vanilla ice cream and orange-passion-guava juice. He enjoyed it, and I tasted the juice, which was good.

Casey’s Corner-We always get hot dogs here, the best in WDW! We had regular hot dogs and loaded them up with sauerkraut, ketchup and all that good stuff!

Columbia Harbour House-I had the garden galley salad, which came with pineapple, grilled chicken, mixed greens, pineapple, and feta cheese (one of the only cheeses I can have!). It was really good, the flavors may sound weird together, but it really worked well. My boyfriend had the vegetarian chili in a bread bowl, which he liked.

Pecos Bill-My boyfriend just HAD to have a chili dog from here. Mind you, this was on the same day that we ate Casey’s Corner. That didn’t stop him from enjoying a big, messy dog. He said it was good, but I know it can’t have been as good as the regular ones from Casey’s.

That’s it for now, I’ll post the resort restaurant reviews later on. :)

I gotta ask -- if Dole Whips have no dairy in them, what in the world are they made of?

Great reviews -- thanks for taking the time to do them.

Good job...very thorough and I learned a couple things even after 8 years of going to WDW.
The salad at the Columbia Harbor House sounds wonderful to me--hope it's still on the menu next summer. And the Dole Whips are an item that is frequently referred to on the threads that I've never indulged in....may have to remedy that as well.
I have to agree with Le Cellier's pretzel bread--when the waiter comes back to refill the bread, we tell them to just give us the pretzel!

Thanks alot for the fun read!

Yummmyyyy...I am officially hungry now! I'm ready to eat my way around the world!!!

Wonderful report ~ Thanx for sharing.

thanks for the report on nine dragons. we have gone back and forth on this. now we just might give it a try in december.

I'm not sure what the Dole Whips are made of, but I used to sell them in my sweet shoppe. They are kind of like a sorbet, if you haven't had one before. So yummy!!

Glad to see you back swankybeth! Someone posted a week or so ago, wondering where you were! ;)

Thanks for the terrific reviews!

btw...when do you begin the WDWCP?

Well, I still don't know what's *in* a Dole Whip, just that they taste great!!

Disneyfan--I actually did the WDWCP last Fall and I loved it!!
