Just got back yesterday from a great 9 day trip to WDW. I planned to keep this short but it is long - sorry!

The Disney Dining addition to the MYW package worked very well for us. The best values for us on the plan were Kona Cafe and CRT for dinner. For two adults and one child on the plan, our dinner bills were $109 (CRT) and $120 (KC) without tip and tax, so without our CS lunch we were already ahead. When we ate at Chef Mickey's and Boma, we did a little better than breaking even, but we saved money there because our 2 year old could eat for free. All servers seem more familiar with the plan and we had no troubles, other than the snack vendors having to ring up each soda, popcorn or ice cream separately. I have no idea why they have to do that.

DH and I like Chef Mickey's better this time than in 2003. Excellent food and service. Boma was great too - we actually ate there twice because we wanted to go back to AKL to hang out one late afternoon. I have read alot about the soups at Boma on the boards, but there is not enough praise for their desserts. Wonderful. They have a coconut tiramisu that was so good! Light, creamy, Heavenly. Also liked the Zebra domes and the banana bread pudding. I would pay the full price just for dessert. We loved the prime rib with mashed root vegetables at CRT, and I thought my caesar salad was one of the best I've ever had - great dressing! Good kid meals there with mashed potatoes and carrots. And we saw Cinderella in the elevator on the way in. Mary Poppins came up to my daughter in the downstairs lobby and said hello. It was the first character that didn't make her cry, and after that meeting she loved all the characters she saw.

We went off of our itinerary one day and ate at the Biergarten for dinner and thought the food was good (not great, but solid - liked the roast pork, spaetzle, potatoes, rotisserie chicken and apple streudel - didn't like the potatoe dumplings) and the show was very good - would do it again. We really liked Kona Cafe - the crab cakes, bisque, and filet mignon medallions were outstanding and the kiddie cone dessert thrilled my kids. I loved my macadamia nut tart. Yum!

CS meals: Columbia Harbour House in MK - first time there and we loved it. Thanks to people on the baords who recommended it. The upstairs was empty and so quiet - a nice change from the hustle and bustle of the parks. I don't know if we got lucky or that many people do not know there is an upstairs. DH loved his brat in Germany and fish and chips in UK at Epcot. We ate a couple times at the food court at ASMo (lunch and breakfast) and thought it was good - no complaints. It can get very crowded though. We really liked Flame Tree barbecue at AK - ate there twice. Great value on the plan, I thought.

We actually didn't use all of our snack allotments. We forgot about them until mid-trip. It wasn't hot, so we didn't drink as much water as we usually do. The kids loved the popcorn and ice cream treats when they got them, though!

I would definitely do the dining plan on the package again. I thought it saved us at least $180, probably more, and allowed us to eat at some places we wouldn't have gone to otherwise. And now having done it, I can imagine ways to make it work even better for us.

At Boma, our waiter accidentally charged us for my 2 year old's dinner. I didn't realize it until we got back to the room and I looked at the receipt that told me how many sit-down meals I had left and the number looked wrong. I went to Guest Services at the front desk the next day and they were able to credit the meal back to me there - no questions asked. Outstanding service. So if you will be dining with a 2 year old that looks more like 3, you should check your receipt to make sure you're not accidentally charged - whether you're on the plan or not.

Other general food comments: I fell in love with the danish at Main Street bakery. The cheese and cherry were outstanding and I couldn't get enough of them. I did not like the pink cotton candy sold in the parks - they add some kind of flavoring that I thought was yucky. The blue is much better. Funnel cakes in MK and Epcot were awesome! For creme brulee junkies - they do have to-go creme brulee at the patisserie in France in Epcot. I thought it was very good, except that they sprinkle cinnamon on top and I didn't like that too much - took the focus off of the flavor of the caramelized sugar. The capuccino creme brulee at CRT was absolutely awful. It looked beautiful, but it might be the worst dessert I've ever had. The custard part was very cold (served in an espresso cup) - almost frozen in parts, and I'm assuming they topped it with a whipped marshmallow topping that they torched lightly. It was grainy and didn't taste good. I would not recommend it at all.

If you have any questions, I'd be glad to answer them!

Enjoyed your report. Although the dining plan isn't an option for us as we have APs, it really does seem like an excellent value with a little planning. Glad to hear that servers are mow familiar with it.

Isn't Kona great! :sunny:

I think Kona is my new favorite place. Outstanding food and great desserts. We were supposed to eat at O'Hana on another night, but we were in Epcot and decided to stay there and ate at Biergarten instead. We'll go there on our next visit in 2007.

Great information! This makes me feel SO much better about getting the dining plan for our upcoming trip....!

It's funny you mentioned forgetting about your snacks until midway through...! That's been my fear! We're so used to NOT getting snacks because of $$$, that I think I'll forget, as well!

Thanks for taking the time to write this all out! ::MickeyMo Very appreciated!

Thanks for the reviews. You ate at a couple of our favorites - Kona Cafe and Columbia Harbour House.

I just tried Biergarten for the first time in December and was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it.

Thanks for sharing, we enjoyed many of the same places

Cool dining reviews thanks! I cant wait to see the kids faces when they get their Kiddie Cone at Kona Cafe.

Please tell me what is special about the kiddie cone at Kona cafe.

Kiddie COne info:

They take a big waffle cone and dip the bottom tip in chocolate and stick it to the plate so it stands up. Then they put two scoops of ice cream in the cone - one chocolate and one vanilla and top it with chocolate sauce and sprinkles. Then on the plate, they scatter M&Ms and a halo of cotton candy. There is also a chocolate "stirrer" with a Mickey head on top - completely edible - stuck in the ice cream. It's so cute!

My kids are 2 and 3, so I asked the server for two bowls. I then gave each kid a scoop of ice cream with some crumbled up cone. My DD took the chocolate Mickey and I ate the M&Ms and cotton candy! Yum!

I asked the server to skip the chocolate sauce and only give us vanilla ice cream and it was no problem.

My husband liked it when he saw it so he ordered it for his dessert too!

Thank you for the wonderful reviews. The more I read the more I think the dining plan would work out well for us. We are not huge eaters but just to not have to worry about how much everything costs while on vacation would be a treat.
What made you decide to do Kona Cafe? Did you stay at ASmovies? Did you find it easy getting around to the different restaurants? Thanks for all of the information....oh and did you do any Breakfasts using the plan?

Thanks so much for sharing all this information with us! ::MickeyMo

I had read good reviews on these boards about Kona Cafe and then checked out the menu and wanted to try it. I figured we would eat there and then watch the fireworks from the Poly, since I didn't want to take my 2 toddlers to MK and get caught in the crowds. We did stay at ASMo and had no trouble getting around. I liked the resort alot. The buses worked great for us. To get to Kona, we took the bus to MK and then hopped on the monorail. We were so excited to see how much we saved on the plan that meal that we splurged for a taxi ride from the Poly to ASMo and I think it was only $15 or so. We also took a take to AKL after the park had closed for dinner - it was $7.

We ate breakfast at the food court at ASMo twice. We had pancakes and they were good. Since you get dessert, we got a muffin and a danish, so we used two CS credits to feed four people (2 adults, 2 kids). We saved some CS credits because a couple times DS ate too much popcorn (snacks!) and wasn't hungry when lunch came. :confused3 So I shared my lunch with him and we banked some credits. Then we used them for breakfast, so some days we never paid for a meal. I also had bagels and fruit in the room for the days we didn't buy breakfast.

People thinking of using the dining plan can really use its flexibility to their advantage. You can share CS meals and sit downs. By spreading out the CS meals you can use them for breakfast and lunch. Also, since we didn't have an actual breakout of kids and adults CS meals, we sometimes ordered an adult meal for our son and then we shared it with him. For breakfast, the kids' meal had 2 pancakes but the regular meal had 3. So get the adult meal and share instead of ordering the kids portion. I'm sure there are ways to share sit downs (not at buffets, obviously) and then save up for a 2 credit signature meal. I hope they still have the plan in 2007 when we return - I will definitely do it again.

And if you're not big eaters, think of the plan as a way to sample. I rarely finished my dessert, but I enjoyed all the bites I took. I didn't feel guilty if I didn't finish my entree either - to save room for dessert. Doing the math, just my appetizer, beverage and entree at Kona covered my meal plan price for the day. Come to think of it, even if I only ordered a beverage, entree and dessert, I would have been covered. And using the plan got me to try places I wouldn't have otherwise tried. Next time I would try Concourse Steakhouse and O'Hana, maybe Jiko if I can bank some sit down credits.

Thanks for the great reviews!! I get more and more excited with each post I read :) Makes it so hard to study for my Anatomy and Physiology test this wednesday! :rolleyes1

Thanks for sharing your experiences with the myw dining> I am really excited about having the plan for our trip!
