Just Back - POFQ - My two cents.

Wow...now I'm worried. I had heard such good stuff about this resort, and now there's this thread on how crappy it is. I hope it doesn't ruin our vacation.

We're about to take our 2nd trip to WDW in October - first time in a Moderate and all 13 nights at POFQ. Maybe I should change?

Don't switch! There are bad reviews of EVERY resort! You have to judge for yourself! I loved the place! I loved everything about it and would love to stay there again.

My theory is for every one person that has a complaint about a resort, there are ten people that had a wonderful time and don't take the time to post their experiences, until you read a thread like this one.

I am sure everyone will at some point encounter some bumps along the way, especially if you visit multiple times the odds are with you that you will have a bad experience.

Should you let it change your mind about Disney? Probably not.

ITA. There are tons of people who have complained about POP, and we totally loved it. :thumbsup2 Everyone perceives things differently, what ruins one's vacation is a tiny blip on the radar for another.

You mean this guy? Ha Ha that is so funny. We also went to lunch to check it out and my kids were like "no way am I staying there!" When I told them we were staying at Port Orleans this year, I had to totally reassure them that the Riverside one is a different one!

That is just freaky.. LOL

I loved our stay at FQ but I agree with you on the transportation. It kinda stinks having to share buses with POR. Most of the time we didn't mind, but sometimes we would fill a bus yet it would have to go to each bus stop in POR anyway. After a few days of going around POR every single time you got on a bus, it gets old. However, we never had a problem with the boats to DTD but we went in mid May which is probably a better time for crowds than when you went.

Didn't care for the pool.. especially the little sprayers on the side when you were trying to find a quiet spot away from splashing kids. I love how small the resort is and the theming is so romantic. Great customer service and mousekeeping too. Oh yeah...and just don't look up in the food court. You'll be fine.. I barely noticed them after the first day.

We only stay at POFQ and have never had an issue.

Last October we never stopped at POR on the way to the parks... even when we were the only 2 people on the bus. We never had an issue with the room or staff. We love the resort and can't even think about staying elsewhere.

And, in my honest opinion, 9AM is plenty "late" enough for them to be doing work.

Actually.... a crappy review on POFQ makes me just a little bit happy! If some more crappy reviews would get posted, maybe they'll actually start offering some discounts again!

How about when Disney starts getting too many "crappy" complaints, or when they read negative stuff like this on the DIS, that they will correct the problem.

I think some of us would rather get an excellent service rather than get a discount due to crappy service. I mean who wants to stay at a crappy resort? It's not about the discount for me, it's about the excellency and the integrity of what Disney represent.

I totally agree with this!!! Things at POFQ were just fine before the crowds came and will be again one day!! I am looking forward to the discounts again sometime in the future!

This is really unfortunate. I think POFQ is beautiful; I've toured the grounds and really enjoyed it. That said, I had a similar transportation experience. We took a bus from POFQ to EPCOT and it felt like it took forever! Super crowded and it did stop at every POR stop before making its way to EPCOT. We've stayed at CSR twice and had great bus service both times and would highly recommend that as our moderate of choice.

That's exactly why I love it! Less kids because the masks scare them away! :rotfl:

Seriously, though, I love POFQ because of it's proximity to DTD and "adult" feeling. I've been there several times on adult-only trips and it's a wonderful resort for that!

We stayed there twice last year - including Dec. 2011 -and it continues to be one of my favorite resorts. I love the newly renovated rooms, the small size of the resort, the landscaping, the pool, etc. I never had a problem with the busses - including a stay over the very busy 4th of July time last year so ?

The food court is fine - perhaps not fantastic. I love the beignets for morning breakfast with my coffee.

If you notice, the water taxis run POR, POFQ, DTD, POFQ, and POR. So they cannot fill up the water taxi at POR and then not let POFQ on. They need to reserve places for patrons at each stop.

You might also note that you cannot take a round trip; you must exit at POR and then get in line to make the return trip. That is to prevent people from tieing up seats for the day just riding on the water taxis when people legitimately want to get over to DTD or back to the resort.

There is perfect logic to it.

I believe she was saying the boat was filled at POR and was very difficult for people at POFQ to get on. We experienced the same thing in March stying at POFQ and it was awful. Not only don't the boats run when it's the slightest bit windy, but they always fill up at POR. It was very frustrating and the bus to DTD was one of the things we we had most been looking forward to. Rode them once. My first time at a mod and probably the last--I don't like outside entrances.

We have stayed at POFQ about five times, the last time being in Feb., and I still love the resort. I love the peacefulness and size of it. I agree that the foodcourt is not as good as some of the other resorts but Riverside is a short walk and you can eat at their foodcourt. I much prefer it to Riverside, I have stayed at Riverside twice, it is too large and spread out, I would rather save money and stay at Pop Century or another budget. I love that there is entertainment at night.

Has anyone posting about the decor at POFQ ever been to the French Quarters in NOLA? I'm from that area, and that's what that hotel is based on, and it's pretty true to form ::yes:: It's based on Mardi Gras. I have never stayed at the FQ, but my dh & I go there every year while at Disney to walk around the beautiful grounds and feel like we are "home". We also get our "fix" of beignets and coffee, even though they are not exactly like those at Cafe du Monde in the NOLA FQ.

I am sorry you didn't really enjoy your stay at POFQ. I guess we lucked out on our last visit. It was really quiet and our bus service was great. Kids loved the pool. I would return there but overall, I felt the resort was average. Hope you have a great time at the YC on your next visit. That place is beautiful!

Sorry, this was meant to be a little tongue in cheek.... but apparently wasn't taken that way.

Secondly... I don't see anything posted as necessarily being crappy service. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Things that really bother one family wouldn't bother another family at all. The blowers going at 9:00 AM on a Sunday would not bother me in the least. I would guess I was probably in college the last time I was even attempting to sleep at 9:00 AM. My kids have always been early risers, so I wouldn't have to worry about that, either. If you were someone who liked to sleep in on vacation, or if you had small children that sleep late... I can see how listening to the maintenance crew at 9:00 AM would make your experience "crappy". We stayed at POR this past January, and I actually viewed it as excellent service when the maintenance crew was out at 6:30 AM power washing all of the poolside chairs.

Also... bus service is very subjective. Yes, it can be annoying "making the rounds", but in my book it's not the end of the world. If I absolutely need to be somewhere at a particular time (such as an ADR), I'll take a cab. I accept the fact that as an able-bodied adult, if I get on the bus at a "peak" time, I'm likely going to stand. I've had a few "less than stellar" bus experiences over the years.. but for the most part I'm willing to go with the flow.

I do agree that the boat situation needs to be improved. They do seem to allow very few spots for the people at FQ.

Oh.. ok.. Don't take it personally because yes, that's how I perceived it.. Sorry.. I just reused the word "crappy" from your post.. I'm just assuming that the OP's experience with the bus service was crappy-- in other word, not good.

I'm glad to hear that POFQ is "true to form" because this place is probably going to be the closest I am going to get to New Orleans!! I don't know what it is about New Orleans, but I am very fascinated of that place. I hope that when or if ever we get to go there, I hope you can help me with with the Dos and Don'ts.. and where and which.. all the great tips and advice from you. :) So if you ever get a PM from me, don't be alarmed. :wave2:
