Just back fron 5 nights at POR and 2 nights at AKL. Great vacation with my wife and I and 2 teenage grandsons for 4 days at POR and then we recovered at AKL. Any questions???

What type of room did you have at AKL, and how was the construction?

We have a pool view room at the end of January, and we are hoping the construction won't bother us much.

Same here!! We also we be at AKL in Jan. but in the regular basic rooms. Did the savanna room the 1st time and just couldn't pay for it this time. Plus sadly when we stayed there before we say more animals out on the walk ways then from our room. But that lobby and everywhere around the resort is so Nicey done!!! I real one of a kind resort!!

We had 2257 on the Arusha Savannah and unless you plan on waking up and leaving your room by 7am, you're gonna hear it. This applies to the odd numbered rooms. The even numbered rooms are on the other side of the construction. I took a picture from my balcony without zooming and it's like having a resort being built in your backyard, albeit a really large backyard. We had contacted guest relations a few months ago to ensure we wouldn't be on that side of the resort as we were going to have two 3 year olds. Sure enough, the guy at check-in put us on the side of the construction. I had to get relocated to a room above Boma with a view of the roof (#4410).:upsidedow I was given a $50 credit to my room and the rest of my stay was uneventful.

We stayed at AKL from November 24-30. We had reserved standard view, but upon checkin, we were given room 4138 on the Ostrich Trail, Savannah View. This was almost to the end of the hallway, and the construction was directly to our left when we were on the balcony. We never heard it unless we were on the balcony and they were out there working every day. Even when we were on the balcony, it wasn't that obtrusive. We had our 15 month old with us, and he was able to nap in the afternoon. Now, I may see it differently because I didn't pay for the Savannah View, but still even if I had, I think I would have been angry at the view of the construction, and not the noise.

We stayed in a savanna view room looking over the Sunset Savanna. We could see the construction and hear it when out on the balcony but it was not loud enough to bother us. We had a standard room reservation but asked for a savanna view at checkin and we got the upgrade with no extra charge.:cool1: We did not see many animals from our balcony but we did see ostriches, cranes and a some antelopes a few times.
The best places to see the animals on the two days we were there was Arusha rock overlook and the animal viewing area by the pool. The AKL resort was great and we really enjoyed the atmosphere and the food. We would highly recommend it to anyone

Yes AKL is the best. We're hooked on the resort and plan on visiting there as our primary hotel for many years to come. Everyone will be glad when construction is done in 2009, but until then we will all make due and simply enjoy the beauty of the resort. Nothing beats the smell of the nutmet/cardiman scent in the air and the wood fire smell out in front of the resort.:cloud9:
