Just back from YC Club Level

Hi everyone! Just back from my YC club level stay. We checked in last Sunday, Aug. 17. It was myself, my husband, my daughter, my son and my son's friend. We had a standard view that was very close to the lounge. Before leaving, I checked in via online check-in. When I arrived, we were brought right up to the lounge, where both cm's at the desks were busy checking other guests in, so since I had completed online check in, I was directed to the lounge where my check in details were completed with the cm who escorted me upstairs via the ipad. Easy peasy and didn't take long at all. Both of my requests were honored, day bed and close to lounge. :thumbsup2 I didn't receive the welcome beverage, but that cm probably didn't know to do that, which is fine, minor fumble, and I didn't miss it. Our room wasn't ready but it was ready within 90 minutes so that was awesome! Overall - very efficient check-in.

Breakfast - the offerings are very much the same as they have been, mostly continental breakfast items, nothing exciting. I did like the espresso machine. That was a nice addition. Water bottles are gone and in it's place is a water container that you can get water out of. This didn't bother us because we brought 2 cases of water with us since I had read from another diser that the water bottles would soon be phased out, which has happened. Also, the large containers that dispensed orange juice and cranberry juice during the morning have been replaced with just regular sized pitchers, with small, small, juice glasses next to them. Probably hold 3 ounces of liquid. These pitchers always seemed to be refilled so it wasn't much of a difference there except for the obvious fact that it is part of their "cutbacks." Breakfast is good, not great, the pastries could be better, but its sufficient.

Afternoon snacks- bread/crackers with hummus, pretzel mix, cookies, pretzels with white chocolate; Swedish fish, and soft drinks.

Evening Appetizers - Good - but mostly fried...mozzarella cheese and tomatoes, cheese and crackers (I think, not sure) cole slaw one night, different cold type of salads on other nights. The beer/wine cart - out every night. 2 given at a time when asking for 2. The limit was 2 each time you ask. But some cm's could get an attitude... one day my husband and I came back from a very hot, hot, day at Hollywood Studios. My husband asked for 2 beers and proceeded to drink them down due to thirst back in our room. About 2 hours later (maybe around 4:30) he asked the same cm for 2 more beers and the cm said that the limit was 2. My husband said do you mean 2 for the day? Or do you mean 2 at a time? The cm said just 2 is the limit. My husband said that he'll take 2 beers (but this time without the attitude ) The cm did get the beers for him, which my husband drank because he was watching a baseball game and wanted a few (2) beers. I don't let surely attitudes from the help ruin my vacation, but my husband was very turned off by this cm's attitude. We did not complain about him to management, but my husband does not want to return to YC CL because of the obvious cut backs and inconsistent and vaguely explained rules about beer. It made him feel uncomfortable on vacation. This makes me feel badly because my husband, like many people, works very hard, and wants to enjoy himself on vacation. We are staying club level and want to follow the rules, but when rules or policy are vaguely explained and purposely left vague for people to "fill in the blanks" then misconceptions and problems arise. We probably won't be back to YC CL.

CM's - With the exception of 2 cm's, the club level cm's at YC were very friendly!! :thumbsup2 Always willing to help, cheerful, wishing you well, pleasant, smiling, everything positive!! :goodvibes There were a couple of wonderful, very Disney like employees - Shakira, absolute pleasure!! She should be allowed to provide training and workshops on how to be polite and friendly. Shakira is hospitality plus +++! :thumbsup2 Chuck, friendly, positive, polite, a young, pretty blonde haired, blue eyed girl who worked in the lounge is just like Shakira - just awesome! :goodvibes. There was another gentleman whose name escapes me, but he also worked in the lounge , mornings, afternoons, and he was wonderful. These are the cm's who set the pace and standards for hospitality at the YC CL. Sadly, there were 2 duds....both spoke Spanish to each other while working...and were not friendly. They seem to not enjoy their jobs. It was this gentleman who gave my husband the purposely vague answers and attitude about the beer. Perhaps another line of work would be more fulfilling?

We had reservations for dinner every night. We only ate breakfast in the lounge and rarely had appetizers, although I checked them out just to see what was offered. My boys hardly ate any appetizers since they were not to their liking...they ate rolls.

I loved my Disney vacation! We had a blast with each other and hated to see our vacation come to an end. We probably won't be returning to YC CL any time soon which is sad, but I hope to talk hubby into trying out other club levels. It just seems that YC is taking a turn for the worse with how they run their lounge and what they offer their guests. I think next time we'll just continue to bring our own bottled water, bring more of our own beer and wine, and continue with our dining reservations. Even with the help from the cm's, which was a big selling point for me previously, can be done on your own with the help of the My Disney Experience app. If I can't get an ADR on my computer, the club level cm's can't either. I found I needed their help less and less.

Thanks for reading. If you have any questions, I'll be glad to help. I didn't upload pics because they aren't any different from what you have already seen online.

Thank you for posting, I had upgraded from AS Movies to YC CL and your review along with others just help me decide to change resorts. Off to Animal Kingdom to get a Savannah view without the attitude and piss poor treatment from CMs! This has been reoccurring with several reports from YC CL reviews. Hopefully things got better.

Thank you for your review. I completely understand the way your husband would feel regarding the beer. Really, two beers is the limit for the day? I understand that some people can abuse the alcohol but if I would get the impression that I am being monitored to the extent that you described, I would not be happy.

My most recent visits have been at BWI CL and Grand Floridian CL and I didn't get the feeling of being monitored. I stay club level most visits because we've been to the parks a lot and now enjoy leisurely trips with more time at the resorts. Staying club level is a nice luxury and if I were treated as if I were asking for something for nothing it would lose its appeal real fast.

I'm glad you enjoyed your vacation and didn't let the poor attitudes overly impact your visit.

Thanks for the review! We are staying at the beach club cl & that is disappointing to hear. The beer is the main reason we did cl! I just sent our ipo a message to see if 2 beers a day is right. If that's the case, I don't need cl.

Let me clarify that the "rules" are very vague. There is definitely some monitoring going on by some cm's, not all. I think it's 2 beers at a time, each time you ask, but with that particular cm, he was being purposely vague and trying to imply that the limit might be 2 beers period. Ridiculous! This was our most recent stay at YC CL and I love club level and have stayed club level many times in the past. Lets hope YC gets their act together and stops the cut backs and monitoring.

I totally agree about the beer/wine cart. When we were there in June I found that I didn't even request a glass of wine because I felt so awkward about it. My husband did go down and request one for me a couple of times while I was in the room getting ready in the evenings. I don't know why but the whole setup being right there in the hallway where people are walking by and CMs are gathered, I just felt weird. I really hope they discontinue the idea and I sure hope the other CLs don't start the same thing. :sad2:

We are headed back to the YC next month but we're just doing a regular water view room non-CL. We'll be doing all our eating and drinking at the Food & Wine Festival so I don't think we'll miss anything. ;)

Welcome back! :wave2:

Thanks Erika! I want to try and get back for Food and Wine as well. I'd definitely stay YC (no club level) and fully enjoy the Food and Wine festival as well. :thumbsup2 Now lets just hope I can convince the hubby to back so soon! ;)

Just spoke with ipo at beach club & she said beer is 2 at a time, not a day. Also, beach club will be changing to the water filtration system once renovations are done.

No, they still have them. I just forgot to list them. I realized it after I posted.

We're just back, too, from Yacht Club Club Level. Disappointing overall. Yogurt is served at breakfast in teeny tiny cups of about one teaspoon each. It took about 14 of these to get a serving. The lounge employees noticed and started providing actual cartons of yogurt for us, which we appreciated. We noticed some people had mini muffins that looked tasty but were told they were gone for the morning. But a very nice lounge employee did go to the kitchen and get us some.

During our stay, they switched out the very convenient one touch cappuccino machine for a style that is harder to use. I assumed this was to discourage patrons from using it and encourage them to have regular coffee instead.

The evening offerings were okay but nothing to write home about. They are certainly controlling the wine and beer now but that didn't bother me. I had the two glasses of wine I wanted. Desserts were only so so but seemed about the same as prior stays.

As for being "watched", we have noticed that more at GF RPC than we have noticed it at YC CL.

We thought the concierges and the lounge employees were excellent -- really great!

It was a good thing too because our magic band experience was a disaster. I don't know how we would have sorted it out without the help of the concierges.

Overall, we think WDW is terribly overpriced with ever declining values. -- the hotels, the restaurants and the parks. We spent 2 nights at YC and then 5 at PBH and Universal. Diagonal Alley is so creative and original it beats anything going on at WDW presently.

At WDW, rides are breaking down. Movies like Soarin need to be remastered. It very much seems like Disney is coasting and directing all excess cash to stockholders except for the magic bands project -- which seems to be much more of a boon to Disney than to guests. Universal is rolling in dough but reinvesting it in exciting new rides and projects.

The magic bands and fast pass+ do nothing for us. They just caused tons of frustration.

We likely will not even bother with WDW next time we visit Orlando.

Disney stock is at a 52 week high and Iger was just named a top CEO by some business publication. I am coming to the conclusion that being a Disney stockholder is a much more pleasant experience than being a Disney guest.

As I told one employee I happened to chat with -- I can see myself becoming a stockholder but, after nearly 2 decades of at least 2 visits per year, I don't see us going to WDW for vacations anymore. I told him prices are being pushed sky high and quality and innovation have hit a new low. The CM agreed and told me he was leaving Disney employment soon and was not at all sorry to go.

I agree about the yogurt. I didn't mention it in this post, but the yogurt that is served at YC CL is just a sampling at best. Why bother serving it? And that tiny paddle spoon is just laughable. This is another example why people should think twice about staying at YC CL.

On the other hand, as I did mention, the cm's were wonderful!! They're very friendly and helpful! I really enjoyed most of them with the exception of 2, but it's that way everywhere in life. Last year I had a huge problem with our magic bands and they were wonderful. It's those types of problems that make staying club level worthwhile. This time our magic bands worked as they should so we didn't seek out the cm's for help other than changing an ADR, which I can do myself, or asking for my room charges so I can pay them off, which again is not something out of the ordinary.

Although I pointed out some severe cutbacks at YC CL, in spite of it all, we still had an amazing time on vacation. If we stay club level again, it will be at a different resort. I think YC needs to figure out that customer satisfaction is paramount, indeed. :thumbsup2

Thank you for your review. I appreciate your candid and detailed observations!!!

I have sections on the Yacht & Beach Club thread where I have links to some reviews of the resort and of club level specifically. Would you mind if I provided a link to this review there?

Thanks!

This. It's just weird. Like they are gate keepers to the lounge. Please do put your feedback on the survey so they can know what we do/don't like. We are here now and while we didn't have any trouble with limits, it is an imposing setup that I don't like at all. Mother may I. Not a good vibe.

So far the CMs have been nice. Shakaria of course and Dan. Regina and Phil during check in rocked.

Off to breakfast in a bit. Will be another with a stack of yogurt cups.

Absolutely, please feel free to use my review. :)

My fiancee and I are staying at YC Club Level for our honeymoon. Reading this review has started getting me thinking otherwise...mostly because of the above-quoted paragraph. I was under the impression that alcohol was unlimited. It's going to be our honeymoon and we want to sit back and have a wonderful time...but if they are going to cut responsible drinkers off, then why did I pay for Club Level? hmmm.... :scratchin

This q has been answered on various threads quite recently. No change in policy. It's always been 2 at a time.
That is not the same as "only" 2.

Thanks for your review of YC CL. I am glad that you had some wonderful CM experiences. And sorry to hear some not so wonderful CM experiences. CL is expensive and good CM's make a big difference.

We have only stayed CL once and it was this last Oct at the Poly. We found the Poly CL to be top notch. CM's were wonderful and always had a great experience. DH had no CM attitude with getting 2 beers at a time, no matter how often. Loved watching Wishes and Hallowishes from the lounge, it was a relaxing, non-crowded way to watch (with snacks and a drink, who could ask for more!)

The Poly is my favorite resort and would not hesitate to stay CL again once the construction is done.

I loved CL at AKL! Friday nights they used a mix of apps and desserts from earlier in the week and didn't seem to have someone replacing them, but other than that it was superb. Everything was so fresh at breakfast. The butter was molded to look like raspberries.
