Just back from using Thrifty...

We have used Thrifty before and have been happy with the service. Well not this time. We have had a reservation with them for months now.We get there and go to the Blue Chip Member counter.Three people standing there and nobody wants to wait on us.And when they finally do not only was the service terrible
they told us that they had cancelled our reservation because the card # we had on file (from about a year ago) was no good. What?? We never got an e-mail or any form of notice that they had cancelled our rental car! Any time I use a credit card that expires or is denied the company I'm using always notifies me and let's me know.What were they thinking cancelling a rental car reservation without even notifying us?? We made this months ago. And I told the guy that and he just stood there and shrugged his shoulders!
When we got to our rental car a couple pulled up and asked if they could see our trunk because the rental agent had them upgrade to a bigger car.He said their luggage would not fit in an economy.I showed them the trunk in our little Kia and it was way big enough for their 3 suitcases.What a snow job.....
So here we are home and come to find out they put a $200 hold on our credit card! What? I knew the guy did not want to wait on us and did not know what he was doing but Blue Chip Members do not have any holds put on their credit cards.
If we ever use Thrifty again (and I doubt we will)it will only be because they have the lowest prices. I intend on writing and letting them know how displeased I was with their service.
I apologize for coming on this board and singing their praises so many times.....

Wow, that's scary! We joined Blue Chip after using Thrifty twice with no problems, other than some pushiness on the insurance, but we haven't used them since then. We try Priceline first, and Thrifty is our fallback in case we can't get something via bidding. I'll have to double check our charge card number next time we book with them...thanks for the warning.

why don't Blue Chips get holds put on their credit cards?

does it specifically say that in the MRA?
 
Gail,We always ask how much gets blocked off our credit card when we rent a car.The girl at the Blue Chip counter told us that they don't put a hold for any amount for Blue Chip Members.This was last December when we rented a car from them.
Maybe it's changed since then.

Deb,
I reread my post to you and I felt I was being combative, for that I must say: I am sorry.

It could have changed or the person in Dec. was incorrect. Personally, since you did encounter a rude person and had a change of policy, I would write to headquarters and one: complain and two: ask for the official policy and three: definitely reread the MRA (tedious I know, but, it has to be in there somewhere).

But yes I will write down everything you've stated and let them know my dissatisfaction with their service.
I would have understood (maybe not liked) bad service if they were super busy but there was only one other person at the counter besides us! The guy who waited on us was rude,indifferent,and just did not care.How do they expect to keep customers (especially repeat) when their service people act this way??
I guess I'm having a hard time getting over the fact that they cancelled our reservation without even notifying us. What kind of business practice is that anyway?? Well it's gonna be 'no business at all' from us....
And I have never had a rental car company put thru a charge on my credit card before I arrived. (?????)
