Just returned from a 4-night stay at the GF and it was fabulous. I'd read the recent negative review before we left - and even though every stay we've had there has been wonderful - I was a bit concerned that maybe the hotel was in a downward cycle. But from check-in to check-out, it was, as Mary Poppins likes to say, "perfect in every way!"

We checked in about 7 p.m. Friday - there were 4 cast members waiting behind the desk and no one in line so we chose Elvira. She was friendly and efficient. I had called the hotel that morning before leaving home and told the front desk that I had not included a request for a higher floor on my original ressie. It was just me and DS11 this trip and I wasn't comfortable with a ground floor room - just didn't think I'd sleep as well. The CM I talked to asked if there was anything else I wanted and I said no (of course after I hung up I thought "Concierge would be nice!" LOL) Anyway, back to check-in. Elvira said they had me on the top floor in Sago Cay (my request). I mentioned to her that DS was hoping we were in concierge again since that's where we stayed in October. Elvira said she would have given us a complimentary upgrade if they weren't sold out. Whether this was true or not, I thought it was nice that she acknowledged my subtle inquiry. She gave us our keys and info packet and we were off.

Just walking though the lobby at the GF is wonderful - the orchestra playing, tinkling of glasses from Mizner's, the portrait artist in the corner...then out the doors to that peaceful courtyard with its twinkling lights and inviting pool. Turn the corner towards Sago and there's the marina and the castle, changing colors across the water. Ahhh... We were on the 5th floor in a small alcove of 6 rooms just off the elevator - it was a dormer room!!! Our first time in this type of rooom and for the two of us it was perfect. WE looked out at the monorail which was great fun for DS. Mousekeeping had already been in for turndown service and the room was so inviting! Perfect shape, clean as a whistle! We unpacked and headed down to Gasparillas for a quick bite. It was pretty crowded since it was too cool to eat outdoors - and very noisy. I tried to persuade DS to take our trays to the room but he wanted ice cream after his meal so we ate there (our one and only time).

WE ordered room service breakfast using the order card you hang on the outside of your door and it came promptly at 7:45 a.m. I called Housekeeping before we headed to the parks and asked to have our room cleaned by 1:30 - it was. In fact, I requested a time every morning and our room was always done even though the rooms around us were not. I was very pleasant with my requests and was greeted with "absolutely no problem and have a grand day!" each and every time. I also requested specific turndown service times on 2 of our evenings and had the same wonderful service.

We used the Concierge desk in the lobby for 2 dinner reservations and they were very helpful and friendly. In fact, one CM got us a primetime ressie at Spoodles on Valentine's night (we made the request at about 2 p.m. that day!). He went on and on about Spoodles as he had worked there as a pastry chef for a few years. He was just delightful and so willing to help.

In fact every CM we encountered at GF was just great this trip. I don't mean to gush but we really did have an exceptional time. I'll add more on the Theme Parks board and Dining board as I unpack. Just wanted to spread our GF joy! I'd be glad to answer any questions.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I'm so glad you loved the GF and had a wonderful time. We stayed at the GF in December and it couldn't have been better! (It was our first trip to WDW :sunny: ) We also stayed in a dormer room and loved it.
We stayed in Conch Key and have thought about requesting Sago Cay next time. Can you tell me a little bit more about that particular building? How did you like the decor of the rooms?

Thank you once again for writing your review of the GF. It was wonderful! :wizard:

Thanks for the GF report! While I am still getting over our recent terrible experience there (just kidding!!) it is still my very favorite resort !!

 :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :bounce: :bounce:

Thanks for the great review on the GF. We stayed there for the first time a few weeks ago and we absolutely fell in love with it. I would love to go back and stay there again! :wizard:

Thanks for the report. It's nice to hear the good and the bad, but obviously it's much nicer when it's all good. Too bad that concierge was sold out, that would have been an awesome upgrade. I'm wondering if the check in CM's are shown your WDW history when they register you. Obviously, she would have seen your recent stay in RPC and maybe that's why she made that comment????

Your room sounds perfect also. It's so nice that you had this time to spend with your DS.

MinnieM21 - The Sago Key runs along the GF marina. Its rooms front the marina on one side and the monorail and lagoon backwaters on the other side. The end of the building faces the lagoon and has perfect castle views.
The building was very quiet since it's away from the pool/courtyard/walkways area but it is certainly not out of the way. It's very convenient to Gasparilla Grill (a 2 minute walk) and the main building/lobby/monorail )a 4-5 minute walk, and to the boat dock (a 5 minute walk). The decor of the rooms is the swan theme which is pretty subtle. The colors are pale blue and yellow - walls are solid pale blue in the bedroom with predominantly yellow bedding and draperies - with swans in the bedding. It's not overly feminine = just kind of understated elegance. The poster beds and accompanying furniture are kind of a natural cherry color and the woodwork is white enamel. I really liked this building (we've stayed in Big Pine, Boca Chica and the main building).

I knew you would have a wonderful trip! Welcome back!

Welcome back! :wave2: It's so nice to read of a PERFECT stay at any wdw resort...especially the GRAND! :goodvibes Thank you for taking the time to post so eloquently, listing details and other info. I'm sure the Spoodles dining experience was memorable with your DS on Valentine's Day! I too...LOVE RS, and appreciate prompt delivery (within the time requested). Every aspect of your stay was as it should be: MAGICAL. :wizard: Perhaps I should give CRO a call and reserve a similar visit! :flower:

Thanks for answering my questions! :goodvibes We were in the Conch Key and I noticed that Sago Cay looked like a nice building to stay in. Next time I'll be requesting Sago Cay, thanks to your wonderful description! (it sounds like a great location) :) I love my peace and quiet and it sounds like Sago Cay would be perfect. The decor of the rooms sounds very nice. I can't wait to try out Sago Cay next time. :flower:

We stayed at the GF in 2002 and it was great! I'm glad you enjoyed it too!

Welcome Back :cheer2: :cheer2:
So glad you had a wonderful stay at the Grand. We also had a wonderful stay this past October and cannot wait to return in August. So nice to hear a good review. Any more details are welcome!

Thanks for posting - we love the GF and Sago Cay is our favorite building. We always request it. We'll be back for the 4th of July and I can't wait!!!!

Thanks Minnesota for your resort report. I'm glad that you and your son had a great trip. My DS10 and DD8 love the GF. The CMs have always been extremely nice to our family. I glad you shared the same experiences. We'll have to try out Sago Cay. We're staying RPC in Nov. and I'm really looking forward to hearing the ochestra and piano playing in the lobby. I'm glad you took the time to share with us.

Just back from 7 nights at Gf(our 4th stay); we have never been disapointed. Our Conch GV room was great-dormer w/ view of Nightly boat parade. Mousekeeping was good. Staff, friendly and efficient as always. Only 2 days of swimming, but we love the GF pools. Citricos was great, Narcoosee's even better this trip. And a great surprise room service 2 dinners and 1 bkfst. waws outstanding(we were never impressed in the past). Gasparilla was convienent and our DD loved the relatively new Princess tea w/ Sleeping Beauty. Great stay at GF! Any questions? Oh yeah, great Super Bowl wathing at Mizzners!

Thank you so much for the great write-up, Minniesota! You're getting me so excited for my trip. How nice that there is a chance for an upgrade upon checking in. I'll file that little piece of info away for the future!

Thanks again, and welcome back!

I'm so happy to see a positive experiance! We'll be there on our honeymoon and the recent negative reports had me worried!

I'm glad you had a GRAND trip! :wave2:

Glad to hear you enjoyed your stay at the Grand. I fell in love with it after staying there last Oct.....

I just wanted to share another great GF CM story. I noticed that our turndown service CM was an elderly gentleman who really seemed to take pride in his work. He quietly went about his business and always had a smile for us in the hallway. On our 2nd night, I asked for a specific turndown time and left a tip attached to the little card Mousekeeping leaves regarding turndown service. When we returned, the room was perfect. Lights dimmed, TV quietly playing, towels all freshened and those little chocolates (yum). And also on the bed was a hand-written note from Ivor thanking us for our kindness! How genteel, how GF! He also left us eight foil hearts on Valentine's night with another note wishing us a Happy Valentine's Day and thanking us again. So sweet.

P.S. The new pillowtop beds are to die for! The most comfortable bed I've ever slept on - and those crisp, fresh sheets. And the comfy robes, plush towels. Oh, sorry. I'm avoiding the laundry room and dinner dishes!

We were in Big Pine several years ago, is what I'm reading here true, is it smoking now? :earseek: We booked gardenview, want a good view if possible, it's DD's birthday. When we had Big Pine before it was a lagoon view dormer comp upgrade. Any chances of an upgrade the first of April?
