Hey all - just got back late Saturday night from our FABULOUS New Year's cruise on the Magic. Gorgeous weather - great servers - did NOT want to leave. While taking my boys to school this morning, my DS says "I'm still on island time!" Me too! :goodvibes

How exciting!! We are doing the same cruise in 2007. Any advice??

:cheer2:

We'll be on that cruise next year! Can you tell us about the special NYE/NYDay activities they had/ parties??
Also, was there any celebs on board with you? Ducky williams?? Will you be doing a TR?

Who were your wonderful servers? We are going in February and I want to request some fabulous servers for this cruise. The servers on our last cruise were awful.:confused3

New Year's Eve we had a special menu. We asked our server if we could take the menus home (since they said "Happy New Year 2006-2007) and we were second seating, we figured they wouldn't need them again) and Ancell let us all keep our menu! Here is what was offered:
APPETIZERS: Tomato Risotto topped with Spiced Shrimp, Ribbons of Melon with Parma Ham, New Year's Eve Pineapple Sunset which was marinated chunks of lobster and shrimp between griddled pineapple wafers, and Spinach and Feta Cheese Envelopes. SOUPS AND SALADS: Crawfish and Lobster Bisque, Double Beef consomme with baked foie-gras crouton, Cedar Lock Salad which was iceberg lettuce, diced papaya, hearts of palm, julienne of red cabbage with citrus shallot vinaigrette (this was awesome!), and Scottish Smoked Salmon Salad. MAIN COURSE: Fillet of Beef Wellington, Sesame Encrusted Tuna Loin, Grilled Veal Tenderloin Tower (awesome also), Fettuccine with Parmesan Crusted Chicken, and Baked Pacific Lobster Tail Princess. DESSERTS: Passion fruit and white chocolate creme brulee, Kona Coffee and Pistachio pyramid on a Toffee Crunch, Citrus-Flavored Cheese cake, flourless chocolate cake, and Strawberry Sundae which was strawberry and dulce de leche ice cream served over strawberry smoothie butter crunch with a chocolate and strawberry sauce.
As you can see - Lobster was on the menu and we though "Score! Lobster 2 nights in one week!" since we knew that Thursday nights are usually Lobster night. Well, we were sadly dismayed on Thursday when we didn't get the usual Thursday night menu and instead the Master Chef menu was offered. We would've ordered more lobster had we known!

New Year's Eve (Sunday) was formal night (moved from the usual Monday night on the Western). The parties started around 10:45-11:00pm in the Atrium, the Promenade Lounge and in Rockin' Bar D. We kept going from one to the other - a video camera crew made their way around as well. They had a big screen over the doorway of Lumiere's, and in the other 2 locations and so it was a challenge to find the camera and get your face up on the big screens. The champagne and Martinelli's was free-flowing - set up on tables in all three areas as well as on deck 4 overlooking the Atrium. Servers were walking around with trays offering these drinks as well. The glasses were gorgeous (clear flutes with black stems) with DCL's logo, "Disney Cruise Line Happy New Year 2007" in black and gold writing on the side. We happened to snag a few of these to take home also! We stayed in the Atrium for the final countdown and what a blast that was! A huge gold balloon drop and confetti galore rained over everyone. The party didn't end right away - people continued to dance awhile, then made their way to the midnight buffet in Parrot Cay. Mainly served were hors d'oevres and wonderful desserts including magnificent chocolate-dipped strawberries (red all the way through) which we happened to find room to eat plenty of! It worked out perfectly, since New Year's Day was a sea day and everyone seemed to be sleeping in nicely. When we returned to our stateroom, we received a box of chocolates with the Disney Logo on it and later during the cruise, we received a limited edition New Year's 2007 print with featuring Goofy, Stitch, and of course, Mickey and Minnie celebrating the New Year. I'm not very computer savvy - but DH is, so we'll try to get some pics up here as soon as we can.
Our servers were Ancell from Jamaica and Samantha from Australia. We had Ancell on last year's cruise along with Daniel from South Africa, so we knew we'd be well taken care of. I must say, Fitz from Jamaica is by far the best server we've ever had and remembered us the two times we've been back since having him as our server. Next year we will definitely request him!
Don't know of any celebrities on this cruise - didn't recognize any at least, but during our couple of days at WDW before that, we saw Donny Osmond along with quite a few members of his family at AK. They were enjoying Festival of the Lion King and of course, Donny got "picked out the audience" to help in leading his section with the sound of a warthog (which he did very well! lol).

Any other questions....just fire away!!:thumbsup2

Were the Christmas decorations still on the ship for your cruise? We cruised the 12/26 Magic and noticed that some things were "mysteriously" removed each day. The atrium was so beautiful with the big tree - it seemed a shame to take it all down before New Year's when a whole new group of people would enjoy them. Hope you got to see at least some of it!

Yes! Christmas decor everywhere - big tree included. On Saturday, as we were getting off the ship, though, they were taking down the tree and others were taking all the garland down from the banisters....

We are leaving on the Western next week. We are seated for the first dinner. What time do the shows start and end after our meal?

Thanks Sheryl

Hi Sheryl - you're going to have a great time! After first seating, the shows start at 8:30 and last an hour. You'll be out of the dining rooms by 8:00 since that's when second seating starts. Disney Dreams and The Golden Mickeys also had matinee times around 2:00 in the afternoon.

I'm taking this same cruise for NYE 2007 and was wondering when to best schedule a Palo's night.

Can you share which nights were the 'themed' dining nights -- master chef, pirate's party, etc.? so I can decide what night's best for the splurge?

thanks!

Also, the "normal" schedule for our cruise in 2007 should be something like this:
Day 1 PC - Rotational (Casual)
Day 2 KW - Rotational (Casual)
Day 3 Sea - Rotational (Formal) (Also NYE)
Day 4 GC - Master Chef (Casual) (New Years Day)
Day 5 Coz. - Pirate night
Day 6 Sea - Capt. Gala (Semi formal)
Day 7 CC - Til We Meet Again (Casual)

I know one other poster said they switched it around a lil' bit for the NYE menu..
