On Friday (oct11) our AC went out and wasn't supposed to be fixed until Monday. It was about 5:45pm. I called my DH on his cell and asked if he wanted to go stay at my mom's. He said, "Let's go to WDW!" So, I was on the phone making a ressie at ASMu. No discounts were available , so we ended up paying rack rate ($99). By 6:30 we were on the road. We stopped for dinner at the West Palm beach rest stop and it was packed with people heading to Orlando for the Columbus Day Weekend (even though schools were open). We had a little traffic and rain, but not too bad. Our son (age4) fell asleep at 8:00pm.

We arrived at the ASMu at 10:30pm . I went to check-in. There was no line for check-in, but they did not have me registered anyway! The CM told me that I was supposed to be at the Sports! They had no rooms at the Music. Oh, well! We finally got to our room. We had a great location. We were in the hoops hotel in the closest (first floor) room to Surf's up- we were actually closer to the pool than some of the preferred rooms. My Dh carried DS to bed and I unpacked while DH went to the food court to get us some snacks. He got a refillable mug since we will be back in a few weeks.

Saturday morning-
We decided to go to MK to "see how it would be on a Saturday". this was a holiday weekend, too. Ate at the food court and went out to catch the bus. We left at 8:15 and got to MK at 8:30. We were first in line at our turnstile. They have a new "park opening", which is great! They have singers and dancers and then the train pulls up with Mickey and a bunch of characters.
We walked on to the following rides: Dumbo, Snow white, Pooh, Tea Cups, Peter Pan, Treehouse, Alladin. It was 10:30 am and DS started to whine and tug at this left ear. Oh , NO!!!!!! We decided to leave since we promised him we would go to DTD. We found out that you can no longer take buses there from the parks. We walked to the Contemporary and took the bus from there. We had to pick up people at the Poly and GF, so the best route would have been to take the monorail to GF and then take the bus from there. Oh, well. We finally got to the Lego store and DS was feeling bad. We bought him a toy and went for lunch at Fulton's. The food was good, but expensive and we were just worried about DS at this point. He started to feel a little warm, too. We went to the Gourmet Pantry and got a bottle of Children's Tylenol. I gave him a dose and we took a bus back to ASSp. By the time we got back, he was asleep. He slept for two hours. I lay down with him for a while. His fever was completely gone, so I went to the pool by myself. Swam a little and got a pina colada. We decided to play the rest of the trip by ear. When DS woke up and he said his ear was better (and hasn't complained about it since), so we decided to go to Epcot. Rode Spaceship Earth and went to Innoventions and Ice Station Cool.
Rode El Rio del Tiempo and walked around the WS. Ate outside at Liberty Inn . TOD was cancelled due to wind. Finished up the WS and headed out before Illuminations started.

Sunday- we decided to do MGM . I made at PS at H&V for lunch.

We checked out and drove to MGM. We were there before opening. Just had a little wait and then walked on to Star Tours.
Got to sit in the second row of Playhouse Disney and DS loved it this time! We took him to the Honey I Shrunk the Kids playground for a while and then went to the Great Movie Ride(in between, we saw Goofy, Buzz and Woody, and Mickey) He did great on the ride until the Witch from the Wizard of Oz came out. He started crying (poor baby). He has watched that movie a million times (by himself). At noon, we headed over to Hollywood and Vine. This was a great buffet! The characters were wonderful! I got a some pictures of Minnie and Goofy swing dancing. Lots of fun! Well, it was hot and we were ready to go.

All in all, we had fun. I am more of a planner and will have to be more prepared for spur of the moment traveling. I would have like to stay at the Music, since we will be at the Sports in a few weeks.

Yours is the first post that mentioned a new opening at MK. It sounds better than the old one which wasn't much of an opening. It would be nice to live in Florida and be able to go on the spur on the moment. I think I'm jealous :)

I am TOTALLY jealous!!!!:p It sounds like you all had a great time! I can't wait till I get there!!!:bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

I'm so jealous, I neon GREEN!!!
Good for you for doing that, glad you had a great time!

how cool to be able to take a quick weekend trip like that - glad you son was feeling better !

thanks for posting

What fun! Oh, to be so close to WDW that I could run off at a moments notice!

:D Sounds like a great way to spend the weekend! Glad to hear your ds was okay. I have a 3 year old who is notorious for getting an ear infection the night before any birthday, holiday, etc. Thanks for the info. on the MK opening. It sounds very cute. Have a great time on your next trip -- and add me to the list of people who are jealous of your proximity to WDW :) !

You don't always have to live close by to do a spur of the moment trip. A couple of years ago I was between jobs. I came down one Wednesday morning and asked my wife if she'd like to go to WDW. She said sure, thinking I was joking. Two days later we loaded the car and drove down from New Jersey for a 10-day trip (including travel days). We had annual passes and stayed at the EconoLodge Maingate Hawaiian for $29/nite, so the trip cost us very little.

Despite that trip, I'm also jealous of those folks who can really do quick get-away trips to Disney. Someday maybe.

Steve

Thanks for sharing your trip with us. I'm inspired to try to do a spur of the moment trip in the future. I usually plan for a year! Glad your son is feeling better.
