Got back from 7 nights at SOG Saturday. It's GREAT to be Home!

I have never been there before so I can't compare new to old but it was nice. Would gve it a 8.9 out of 10.

Everytime I made any request it wa handled wonderfully.

The food at was decent but not great. However the prices were very good.

Stayed poolside at the little pool. Perfect for the Kids (10 and 7). Could send them too the pool and watch them from our patio. I don't think the poolside rooms at the bigger pool are as close. Could get loud with door open but not too bad.

Cleaning service was good but inconsistant. Nothing major, left cleaning products in room a couple of times, did not always restock drinking cups and took a sheet we brought. I called the front desk and it was returned the next day washed.

Towels are available at the big pool but not the little pool.

The bus service was ok. Again nothing to major just not quite perfect. The early (7:30) bus left at 7:25 a few times so people missed it. I'm going to suggest they but a clock at the bus pick up point for the drivers to work by. Please do the same if you have the same problem. Walk to the poly and catch the Monorail. It won;t always be faster but it is nice. The walk too Poly is great. Do it just to be outside out of the parks. It is well lit.

I think most of the problems (if they can be called that) are related to an all new staff.

We toured a few of the Disney resorts (not the rooms) and while SOG does not seem to have a theme and be done up quite as nice there is not someone trying to sell you something "Disney" around every corner. I will stay there again if we come back to Disney.

One word of warning not related to SOG. The tap water in that part of FLA stinks. It is bareable ice cold with food, maybe. If you are a family of water drinkers like mine, take allot of bottled water. We knew we were going to buy allot of water in the park but I assumed we would not have to at the hotel.

Sorry so long winded. Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks very much for the great report!
I'm glad you had such a nice visit!

Thanks for the tip about the buses. We'll be sure to arrive a few minutes prior to the scheduled departure.

Thanks for the report! The water in the tap is heavy in sulphor and that is why it taste so bad. It is the whole area. We always come prepared with Immodium AD as it also has other side effects for us:(

How often did the buses pick up at the parks? Were they consistent? How far into the parking lot was the bus stop? I read somewhere that they were in the middle of the parking lots.

What section did you stay in?

Thanks! We will be there in 9 days. Can't wait!!!!!!!!

SOG was a deluxe resort when I stayed there back in the 80's, it was the Disney INN some called it the golf resort. It had the largest rooms of all the deluxe hotels. You are very lucky to have this place for the military.

There are two busses that run pretty much constantly.

Route A runs from the hotel to the transportation center and seemed to be on a 15 to 20 min loop. From the trans center you take the monorail to epcot of Magic Kingdom. The pick up point at the transportation center is kinda in the middle of the parking lot but there is a covered sitting area where you can see the space from. I did not find that to be a problem.

Route B runs directly to Animal Kingdom, and MGM. It is allot further from SOG so it's about a 30 min loop.

I can't say how consistant the runs were because I did not have a watch and we did the walk from the Poly allot, but unless you are a control freak like me I think you would find the bus service adequate.

However, the monorail runs directly to the Poly and it is a great 5 to 10 min walk on a lit path to SOG. All though I know that the SOG bus would have been faster at times we really enjoyed the walk. It was a nice chance to wind down as a family. If the weather is bad or you just don't want to walk use the bus service. While it may not have been right on the 30 or 15 minute mark I'm sure it was close.

We stayed in room 101. Pool side by the little pool. I think it would be considered the old section but I have never been there before so I'm not sure.

Good luck and have fun!
