Just some info I would like to share with eveyone...

There are 5 SOG buses...
2 buses go back and forth from the TTC every 15 min.
1 bus goes to Animal Kingdom/Blizzard Beach every hour
1 bus goes to MGM on the hour
1 bus goes to Downtown Disney every hour starting at 6:30PM-3:AM

Even if you are civilian you can buy Alcohol and cigarettes in the AAFES store, never asked for ID. When I asked the clerk if I needed ID, because I wasn't military, she just laughed.
6 pack of beer at AAFES $6.50-$7.50, Poly $12.50-$13.50

The Pools are open to midnight, hot tub 10PM,---Pool temp 84 degrees

The water at the faucet in the bathrooms is very very hot, watch small children

Video games on the TV are FREE, Internet $4.95 day

Looks like pretty soon they will be offering boarding passes for airlines from the resort, desk is set up and I have seen the Magical Express bus there a couple of times

Poly 10Min walk
TTC 20 min walk

I stayed in the old section next to the quiet pool, and loved it, I don't think I would stay in the new section, too far away

Garden gallery buffet different every night $14.00

Still working on ticket sales area

Ordered Pepperoni Pizza to room for lunch one day $10.20 +tip

Coffee at Expess cafe near the bus stop $1.00 small, $1.50 large

Not much Disney feel, they don't even offer Disney channel on TV

I would stay there again!

Any other questions?

Now that is some info I have NOT heard! Thanks. It will come in handy when making plans.

Video games free huh? Nice ;)

BTW...How was the pizza? I have tried it 2 times over the last 5 years and I just did not care for it. Wondering what your opinion was.

Glad to see anyone can buy stuff from the AAFES store. Given the fact that ALL purchases from AAFES benefits the MWR, the more civilians who purchase, the more money it creates for MWR.

Oh, do they still have the pressed coin machines?

Did you use the laundry facilities? Were they crowded?

Food was good.
We ate at all the restaurants
Had the Italian Buffet and Seafood Buffet
Veal Parm at Mangino's was excellent
The Pizza reminded me of Dominos, for the price I think it was good
We had lunch at evergreens, was also good

The video games were simple games, solitare, chess, etc.

Yes they do have the pressed coin machines, but they were not pluged in

Laundry was on the second floor of old section, not crowded $1.00 wash, $.75 dry

great info. Thanks for the advice/tips.

When you mentioned they were working on the ticket area, were the still selling them? I plan on getting mine at the end of this month there. Do they add the no expiration there?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the info on the food. I was really relieved to read your positive post after reading others that really hated the food at SOG. My husband and I are not into haute cuisine, just basic good-tasting, well-prepared food at a reasonable price.

Did you use the bus service at all? At AK, MGM and DTD where are the drop-off and pick-up areas located? Were the buses on time? Thanks :earsboy: :earsgirl:

Thankyou - very practical things we needed to know - we are staying there in June - 3 rooms of us....did I read correctly that maybe the new disney airport transportation will soon be including SOG????

I saw that other post too. That was the first time I've ever seen anyone say that they really didn't like the food at SOG.

We stayed there last October, we didn't eat at SOG much, but we enjoyed the meal or two that we had. We ate dinner at Evergreens the night we arrived. The service wasn't great, but the food was pretty good. We had the buffet one evening at GG, and really liked it. Our favorite part of GG was the price. It was one of the best meals we have ever had at WDW for the money we spent.

I really liked the prime rib buffet on Sunday night. I thought it was a tremendous value. No tax helps too. I really feel they could do better however. The food is fabulous at the Hale Koa. Both resorts manage to stay at a 92% occupancy and I think that they would even do better, revenue wise if they improved on food service. I am glad that they have the third restaurant. It offers more choice.

When it came to SOG food, we always liked Evergreens menu. The onion rings are awesome! The hot dogs are good too, but of course, that is the kind of food we like to eat after hours and snacks.

We have eaten the breakfast buffet several times and while it is not a gourmet breakfast, they do offer alot so everyone should be able to find something they like. The price is not bad either. Never ate the dinner buffet as we always stay in the parks late.

I have to say the only thing I don't like is the pizza via room service. Gave it a try 2 times and it just was not to my liking. However I have heard several people say it was fine.

Can anyone verify if Garden Gallery offers a menu for breakfast rather than ONLY having the buffet. There are times when you only want some fruit or a muffin and the last time we were there they said ONLY buffet.

I believe Garden Gallery does have a menu for breakfast. When we were there in Oct. they asked if we wanted buffet, but also left a menu.

We enjoy Evergreens, I don't think I have ever had anything bad. For the price I think the food is good, I can't ever remember having a meal that was horrible. I agree, at Hale Koa the food is better.

When we used the bus in Oct. they were on time, the bus even got to MGM a little early and we had to sit and wait to leave until the time he was suppose to. The bus drive will tell you what spot you will get picked up at.

*** I started this post to give eveyone info about SOG that I couldn't find before I left, So everyone going could have a heads up***

They are selling tickets from a makeshift table. I bought my Stars and Strips there.
And Yes I did use the buses and they were always on time. And that was a little bit of a bad thing, because if you were 1 min late for the bus, you had to wait an hour to get the next bus or jump on a Poly bus

AK and MGM bus stops were a little futher away from Disney Transportations bus stops, The TTC bus stop was right in front of the store and DTD bus stop was right next to Fultons crab house

I also charged everything I ate at the resort to my room, it was more convenant, it was on my bill that night, you can check your bill on the TV.
But don't try to charge it to your room at the Express cafe, They are contractors and don't accept it

YES there is an area set up that says 'Airline something' in the lobby next to registation

Also the buses run late for EMH

Can anyone go to SOG for dinner? I was vacationing last summer at WDW and this family kept talking about the buffet - it sounded great!

That is great news about Magical Express. I really want to stay there...LOVE the Hale Koa...but I want Magical Express and I would really like the MYW dining. Maybe they'll add that too. Otherwise we'll be doing two rooms at a value...or a FW cabin..

Some people said that they have been successful sneaking in but no, its for eligible guests only. One evening I called to verify this and I was told by who ever took the call that its "open to the general public". At the same time I sent an email and was told correctly, "no, its for eligible guests only". I later received a phone call stating the same thing so it much be a touchy subject.

Thanks Dawn for the info...it would have been a great dinner.

A question about the Stars and Stripes - can you get any amount of days no matter how many nights you are staying at the resort? We will be there 7 nights, but want to get 6 day Stars and STripes passes, not 7....(someone said they thought is was like the old length of stay passes, but the website does not read that way)
Also, any room location recommendation? floor?

I believe you can S&S for as many nights as you want, the lady at the ticket counter didn't ask me how many nights I was staying at the resort. She just told me the days start from the first day I use it. For example, if I bought a 7 day ticket on Sat but didn't use is till Mon., my 7 days will start Mon.

As for the rooms... I thought the new section was too far away from the pools and restaurants.

If you like quiet I guess the new section would be great

We stayed on the bottom floor, next to the Magnolia (quiet) pool
and hot tub, I recommend those rooms, not many people in that pool compared to the Mill Pond (Mickey) pool. The room numbers are 101-113.
If you have kids you can sit on your patio and watch your kids, because the room are so close to the pool.

You also get the bonus of the ducks and rabbits that come looking for food!
The kids loved it.
We actually had the duck come in our room QUACK, QUACK

Can you put 3 adults and 2 children in a standard room. :sunny: pirate:
Can someone verify this one?

Yes, you will be charged for the extra adult (I think it's $10 a night) but you can have 5 in a room at SOG.
