We just spent a week at the Sands of Kahana using our points. We were very pleased! Our room was a 1-bedroom. Everything was clean and in good working order except for the hair dryer, which was promptly replaced. Our view was not bad either. We had a partial ocean view from the lanai. The downside was that there was no airconditioning, which was not a problem in our room. The one place that tended to get warm was the vanity area in the late afternoon. This was also where the W/D ware located. The tradewinds and the ceiling fans kept the rooms cool and comfortable in the rest of the unit. The staff was also very friendly. All in all we felt that it was another great use of our points.

Thanks for your report. I'll be looking for a Hawaii trade within the next few years so I'll keep the Sands in mind. BTW, how easy was it to trade into Sands and how long did it take?

We have been to Maui several times and most of the units we have stayed in didn't have air conditioning. The breeze off the ocean cools the units off. It is uncomfortable when your unit has no shade and direct sunlight. Maui is one of my favorite places to stay. :sunny:

hi! i am glad that you had a wonderful trip.. i have one question.

i had put our name on the "waiting list" for kauai with over a year and a half before we wanted to go.. and never once heard back from dvc.. not even to tell us if nothing ever came through. just wondering how long in advance you had requested your time.. i just thought with having more than plenty of time for our request, something would have come through.. nothing. :confused3

i was very shocked that they never even called back to let us know.. if i remember correctly, i was told that they would have called by may, to info us of any opening.. we were planning on going this oct, and i called in and put our request in on 3/04.. just very disappointing.

thanks for you help.. i just need to know i should do for the next time i put in a request..

We put in our request about 2 years in advance and we heard after 1 1/2 years. We asked for 3 different weeks and 3 properties.

Glad to hear you were pleased with Sands of Kahana. We stayed in a 1 bedroom in April on a "Getaway" week through Internal. We were overall very pleased with our stay there, too. We liked eating breakfast at the restaurant that overlooked the pool and the beach (we watched whales playing in the ocean one morning while eating breakfast).

you dont have to wait if you use the concierge collection. THe Mauna Lani on the Big Island is a fabulous resort in the Kohala Mountains and Black Lava Rock Golf Courses. The Hilton is right next door as well..............It is known as the Hawaiian Gold coast.
