Hi Everyone! We just got back last night from our first trip to WDW. What a great time we had, thanks in large part to the wonderful tips I got off of this web site. I had my little note cards and people made fun of me before time, but I knew just what to do and where to go. I thought I'd return the favor and add a few tips of my own:
-The character breakfast at Restaurantasaurus in AK is worth it. You're in the park early and we were able to eat and be on the Dinosaur ride by 9:00 am. NO lines-we rode twice in a row
-we also did character dinners at Chef Mickey's and Liberty Tree Tavern. Both good, but costly.
-at MGM, Fantasmic is absolutely not to miss. We had dinner at Hollywood&Vine (which was good and not that $$) and then got passes to enter the show without 2 hours of waiting. WELL WORTH IT.
-we thought the best site to watch the MK fireworks was from behind the castle. You can see all the fireworks clearly as they are given off from there
-we watched the Magic Moments parade from Libery Square just over the bridge by the Christmas shoppe--my kids were picked twice to be in the parade b/c it stops just before they go over the bridge to perform. We made dinner reservations at Liberty Tree Tavern for 4:00 pm so we were right there for the parade and then character dinner.
-in Epcot, get a mask made by the kids from the first country you hit. You can get each country to stamp it and write your kids names in their language. No need to buy the passport. Each country attaches a token from their country to your mask so you end up with a multi-cultural masterpiece.
-Also in Epcot, we sent free postcards, a video and got a free, beautiful 8x10 all in Innoventions.
-In AK, we thought the Lion King show was great, the Tarzan was just so-so, not enough Tarzan
-MGM, the Doug show was great if you have Nickolodeon fans. Beauty & the Beast was also great. Backstage pass and lot tours were OK for adults, but the kids only enjoyed the earthquake/waterfall thingie at the end
-In MK, there's a really nice theater in the back of the camera shop right at the beginning of Main Street. Lots of good picture spots and cool, comfortable seats for the kids to rest (& parents too) and watch cartoons for a break
There's so much more, but these are the things that stick out right now. It was my family's first trip, so I wanted to get the most out of it; who knows when we'll be able to go again. We stayed off-site (HoJo's maingate east) and it was clean with a nice pool and 2 minutes from the entrance. We rented a car and park hopped our brains out for four days!
We had such a blast. I don't think I could have planned 1/2 of what I did without all the tips from you guys. Thanks so much. There really is something magical about that place. . . we know we'll go back someday. Peace
