We just got back from a great trip to WDW!
Our trip included me- a diabetic, DH who is a power wheelchair user, DS who is adHd, and our service dog!!
Things were great and we all agree it was one of our best trips ever! One factor was that each trip we slow down more and aren't in a rush to see everything. The fast passes worked great and helped us enjoy some of the most popular attractions.
We stayed off site Sat nite and arrived at OKW at 7:30 on Sunday. Our room was ready!! That was a surprise and we unloaded the van and headed to EPCOT> After a wait >the first bus did not have a lift and waited for the second. We only had this happen one more time during our stay but it was the second morning when once again you are anxious to get started! We remember the days of every 3rd bus having a lift so felt our odds were pretty good this trip.
We never got a handicapped pass and never were asked for one. Dan's disability is pretty obvious due to the power chair and I personally would not ask for one for DS even though his ADHD is very severe. This is just my opinion. If he can't handle waiting we either opt to head back for a swim or choose an activity without a line. One time we did ask for special treatment since Dan was overheating and needed a/c. We asked to wait inside 20 minutes before our fastpass time at AK's bugs life! Due to his disability his temp. can go high when over heated and the cms let us in without any problem. We could have gotten a guest assist. pass if that had been a regular problem. AK has less indoor attractions and tends to feel hotter than the rest of the parks! After he cooled off at the show we headed back to the resort.
We loved the new car design at EPCOT's imagination. It has you pull on forward and then they can turn you for the proper ride position. Easier to drive on this than lots of the other attractions and I hope they incorporate this into other systems.
Magic Kingdom remains our least preferred park. They have so few options for folks who can not transfer out of their chairs. The Pooh ride and the jungle cruise ride accessible cars/boats were broken so that further limited our choices. They gave DH a card to use at the front of the line for another attraction which was nice BUT no other accessible car that we could use it on. After looking for an option- Buzz had one but last year he fell getting off that ride and cut head so didn't want to try that again so ended up giving it to son and I who rode the race cars before heading back to the resort.
We enjoy the other 3 parks awhole lot. Especially love Fantasmic and the cms were great there bringing Ddog water and checking to see if we had any other needs.
We are looking forward to our next trip -April vacation and are already thinking about a short trip next summer!
