Let me say again that I enjoy the discussions we have on these boards about this and a list of other "common" issues at WDW...I have fun with it and often interject my opinions(and that's all they are, my opinions, nothing more or less) on the matter at hand. I think there is a common theme that comes out of these types of discussions: We ALL should be more careful when forming opinions about other guest when we make a 15 to 30 second observation of them...we simply do not have enough knowledge of the whole situation most of the time to make a logical presumption of what's going on.....I think it's a problem that has evolved in our society that people spend way to much time concerned with what others are doing....Our family uses this philosophy: take care of our house first!
I'm not trying to be "holier than thou" with this statement. I'm just saying that we have learned to worry about what "we" do and not spend so much time and energy worrying about what others do...

Kevin, Humor me on this one and by no means if this a critism of you.

I understand exactly what you are saying about worrying more about yourself and less about what others are doing.

However also by making that comment in reference to how some have reacted to this situation and hence their comments, are you not doing exactly what you said you would not do, being too concerned about what others are doing, or in this case saying.

This amusing little tidbit of info, before they lock this thread and kick us all out the door......

In 1993, the CM's that worked at the central food area that serves Pecos Bills, Sunshine Tree Terrace and El Pirata Y el Perico (I think sunshine is the 3rd one - I know the other 2 are right) were instructed to PUSH soda. At that time the larges went for (she couldn't remember 100%) about $2.25 or so? However, the cost to Disney, INCLUDING LABOR, per soda was.......................

.08 for that large soda.

Now I probably shouldn't say that, because it will encourage more 'justification' or even more arguments, but I thought it was rather amusing - isn't that about a 3000% profit? I'd love to make that on one of my items on eBay!!! I realize we are talking 10 year old pricing, however, I'm sure soda prices have increased since then. I don't even know what a large costs now - she was sure it was over $2 at that time. So that's why those guys in Houston can offer the free refills!!! (course they do in Wisconsin at the restaurants too - even when it's 20 below!)

I actually thought the different potential occurences that were described were very interesting. And as far as my Swan/Dolphin mug I will probably not take it back with me - If they have changed the design I don't want to risk losing the ones we have. DD always wants slushies anyway and they don't qualify for free refills (hmmm....maybe at the AS Food Court they would?) - I'll just buy myself a new mug.

not another MUG DEBATE!!!!

the "rules" for refills are broken all the time.

cm's often dont know what the heck is going on, or the rules.

i think i consider the refillable mug a (very) small perk of staying at a wonderful
(but overpriced) disney property. length of stay has nothing to do with anything, in my opinion.

i bet its like most things: some people abuse it, most follow the rules. disney makes money on most folks and loses money on a decent percentage. overall, its a small piece of the money pie, but you could bet your 10-year-old-refillable -mug that disney wouldn't do the program if there wasnt some profit involved.

i bet the real reason the program started has more to do with labor costs: i'm sure all the fast food places (and disney) have figured out in the long run its less expensive to have the customer serve themselves drinks.

so i say do what feels right to you. but if i saw someone filling an EMPTY liter bottle, i think i'd have to walk up to them, hand them a dollar, and say,"i am sorry you are so short on funds that you have to steal something to drink."

or something like that.
