Hi. We just returned last night from a fabulous Mommie & Me trip to WDW! We split our stay between Pop & AKL. Th e

The Pop was tons of fun. Our room was in the 50's section overlooking the bowling pin pool. I did not find it too noisy or too far to walk. we enjoyed the food court and loved the cast members dancing the hussle!! Very funny and many times we joined in the fun! The room was smallish. My only complaint was that I couldn't get a coffee pot. Every single cast member we encountered there was friendly and all smiles :teeth: check in was fast and easy. we checked our luggage and headed over to MGM as it was about 9:30 am. The bus service was fine. Very rarely did we have a more than 10 min wait our entire trip. One morning my dd5 got to call out on the radio for the bus to AK. It was real cute! Over all a very nice place to stay for those who don't want to spend a bundle on a room. I would recommend it without hesitation.

Now the AKL stole my heart  !!! We had room 4575 with a view on the inner circle savannah. The room was spectacular. The view was something that everyone needs to experience! We had a standard queen / bunk bed room. It had a very nice bathroom area; a coffe pot and fridge; a large armoire with a nice big TV; a small table with 2 chairs and a balcony. A very, very nice room. It was dark for reading so Iwould recommend bringing a book light if you like to read at night (like I do). The resort itself was just so wonderful! The pool deck was undergoing some construction so it was a bit of a maze on the ride side but not really a problem. The pool slide is great. Not too steap. My girls loved this slide much more than the Poly's which they found too steap. The spas were nice and made you feel like you were in a natural hot spring. We saw all the African animals and loved it! All cast members were wonderful from check in to valet service with our bags to the gift shop. Bomas' was soooo yummy! I wasn't all that impressed with the Mara. All in all, I would have to say that AKL is my favorite WDW resort so far! It is one that needs to be experienced. I can't tell you how it made us feel to see those animals from our balcony except to say it gave us a thrill and made me cry
I'll be around for questions if you have any!

Glad you had a great visit! We can't wait to get to AKL in May. Just one quick question: What were they doing to the pool deck? I hadn't heard anything about this before.

SqueakyMouse, Oh you will LOVE this resort! I'm not sure exactly what they were doing to the pool area just that they had much of the ride side blocked off and were breaking up concrete and re-pouring. My guess is that they had some cracking problems to fix. It does not affect the access to the pool. The entire side were the zero entry point is is completely clear. There is plenty of room all around the pool area for chairs. It just means you can't get to the playground (which is at the top side of the pool) from the right side. You will need to walk around the left side of the pool and by the two animal viewing areas at the top of the pool to get to the playground. It wasn't noisy or dirty in the least. I don't know if they will be done by May but you could call the resort directly and ask. I wouldn't worry about it though. Do you have a savannah view room reserved? If not, spring for the extra, even if at check-in if you have to!

I'm doing a mommy and me trip also (promised each of my children that I would take them separately for three days each ) - the oldest choose Animal Kingdom Lodge for the hotel. I was able to book a standard view room with AAA rate (still outrageously expensive, but better than Savannah view, etc...) - I love staying on a concierge floor but right now, get this, it would cost me an additional $258 per night! Just can't justify that kind of price increase.

Anyway, looking forward to it. Any tips on touring? Or the hotel? We want to visit Animal Kingdom, especially.

Puffy2 - You will love this resort! They have loads of kids activities but we didn't have time to participate this trip. Ask when you check in and they will give you the times for all the fun things there are to do (like animal viewing with night vision goggles!!!) the AK is a wonderful park. The two walking "treks" are a must if you want the animal experiences. The guide books say you can do this park in half a day but not if you stop and talk to the animal experts, stop at the kids discovery clubs and really take the time to view the animals and see the shows. If you just do the rides and see the shows, then one day should do it. But I would recommend really taking your time to experience all the educational opportunities in this park. Our next trip I plan on making our focus the kids clubs ie: we will tour the park by going from club to club not ride to ride.

If you don't end up in a Savannah view room, there are plenty of places all around the resort to view the animals. I hope you get a comp upgrade though!

Have a great time!!!

Can you tell me anymore about the AK kids discovery stops? I haven't heard of these! Is it like the epcot ones? Where will we find them? Thanks!

Kathryn - If you look at the park map the stops are indicated by a K in a red box. There is one in every section of the park (six). And they are very different from the epcot ones. This one has an animal expert with an activity specific to the area. Sometimes they have an animal or creature (spider or snake!) with them also. The epcot ones are just coloring a mask and obtaining a stamp. The kids won't learn anything unless they ask questions. The ones at AK seem to be more geared to teaching imo.
