We just returned from our very first stay as DVC owners. We stayed at OKW in 2 studios for 3 days and moved to AKV for 3 days in a 2 bedroom. We loved both places. They are a completely different feel. AKV (Jambo House) very upscale hotel feeling. There were times that we kinda felt out of place, but it was great to see the animals. Our room overlooked the pool. I love to people watch so it was great to sit out on the balcony and watch all the activities. Our room was a great size and the sleeper chair was a great addition. That meant that everyone got a bed and only the girls had to share. You could barely hear each other when in the different rooms. By the way the lifeguards are way too busy there. I personally watched 4 rescues in a half an hour period. In all the cases the parent was not even in the water with young swimmers. :confused3 My kids said that the slide at the pool was depressing. We enjoyed the food court on 3 occasions. Transportation was very hit or miss and it is located far away from the magic kingdom. We waited for buses many times for more than 20 minutes.

OKW loved the pool, the slide, fun activities, very fun lifeguards. Our studios were next to each other so it worked out great. We were in building 14 great location for the hustle and bustle. Our balconies overlooked the tee of the one of the holes on the golf course. The studios were huge. We could have had a party in the bathroom. Transportation was great never waited more than 10 minutes. At the end of the night we just jumped off at pennisular rd and walked back. It was much faster than staying on the bus until our drop off.

We really can not wait to go back in 2 years. I only bought enough points to go every other year. It is what works best for us. We really think that next time we would hang out more at the resort than run off to the parks all the time.

I hope to write a full trip report since I love to read everyones.

Glad you enjoyed your first trip as owners. We won't be taking our first until next February. I too only got enough points to really stay every other year (although because of getting the 2009 we can sneak in one each year the first two). I am just hoping my fiance/soon to be DH will love it so much he will want to add on :thumbsup2

Good to hear that you liked both resorts, I am currently trying to decide if we should stay in OKW or AKV in Feb. There will be 9 of us, and I am not sure how much time we will be spending in the rooms. Just wondering if you found OKW lacking in comparison to AKV due to the age of the resort. Anything you could share would be great, having a really hard time making up my mind!

If an updated room is important to you then I would book AKV. The room was very nice with granite counter tops, nice furniture and very high end finishes. The lightening was dark. OKW was more laid back with older finishes, but nicely done. We did not have a updated room at OKW, but again we were not in the room. I do not have a flat screen tv at home so I do not need to have one at a hotel. know that this is important for many people. We really loved both places. AKV - Jambo house being more upscale hotel and OKW being like a condo.

We found the transportation to be much better at OKW than AKV.

Good luck with your decision. In my opinion you can not go wrong with either.

Three weeks until my 1st dvc visit OKW 2 bedroom with the "girls" no kids no DH's! I am not sure if starting with a 2 bdrm at OKW is a good idea from what I have been reading I will be spoiled by the size! BLT in Dec.

Thanks for your Trip Report!

What do you mean when your kids said the slide at
AKV was depressing?

Thanks much! :cool1::cool1:

I am a new owner at OKW too. On our trip this past March (this is what finally convince DH to buy in) we visited AKL I always wanted to at least visit this resort. While not our cup of tee I will say this. There were alot of nice little spots to view the animal from inside. I also noticed a fire pit with chairs around it...not sure but I think there was one inside as well. You walk in the interior corridoors to get to the front desk, shop ect. Don't think Kindi and Jambo are connected threw indoor areas. OKW everything is exterior. Just thought I would add this since you plan to go in Feburary...might make a difference as to where you plan to stay.

Looks like we'll be there at about the same time...2br at OKW May 25-30 with grown children and just DW and myself Nov 29-Dec4 at BWV. Was considering a change to a split stay for Nov/Dec trip to try out a different resort. After reading this thread, might try AKV.

After OKW's slide with the corkscrew the slide at AKL - Jambo house was pretty lame. It is just a small turn and in the water. They did say the slide at Kidani was better and like OKW. The slide at OKW was fast and exciting for even us as adults. The one at Jambo house was very boring according to the kids.

Hope that helps

very upscale hotel feeling. There were times that we kinda felt out of place.

This made me laugh and laugh.

IT WILL CHANGE. :lmao::rotfl:;) I remember THAT feeling. We dreamt for ten years before buying - we wanted - in our situation - to have the money upfront. And I had that exact feeling the first year in.

I got over it - quickly.

Five years in and I feel like I OWN the place. ;)

Well next time tell the girls in your family to try the sitting up pike - arms touching your toes run.

A DVCer schooled me at VB (now THAT"S a slide :dance3:) that woman (girls not sure) go faster in that position than the on your back hands tight to your side run. I was like hmmm. She was SO right.

Anyway an idea to make Jambo a tad more fun. :goodvibes I always get someone to time me - competition fuels the fun too.

OKW is our home resort and we love it. The units are a little larger and it is very laid back. They are always updating the units. The only place we like better is Boardwalk and only because of the location to Epcot ( now that my kids are bigger). I am sure you will love either AK or OKW

Slide and pool at BC Stormalong Bay is AWESOME!

What a fun fun pool! I LOVE THAT PLACE!

HOPE YOUR KIDS CAN TRY BC ONE YEAR! FUN, FUN, FUN!:cool1:

Yes, you'll be spoiled, but not nearly as spoiled as you would be if you were visiting after the renovations are done at OKW. I'm so looking forward to that!

We just got our planner yesterday and my 12 year old son was calculating how we could use our points there :) When you only have 100 points you need to be frugal with them I told him. He totally figured out a scenerio which involved moving between OKW and BCV. I told him we will see, but it will not be until 2012.

I'm in that boat as well...I just purchased 100 points, and with the 09 points that gives me 200 so I am going all out with our 1st trip home to OKW in November and DBF and I are getting a 1 bdrm so we can have the jacuzzi and full kitchen. We will just be resort hopping and getting to know OKW, with trips to DTD and maybe a segway tour in Epcot for the one special thing so eating in is going to be the goal for at least one meal a day. We will not have any problem staying in a studio if we need to in future trips but...I have a feeling addonitis will be setting in after our first trip. :cool1:
