We're just back from a week in a SV studio at BWV (room 2097). Room was in good shape except for two things. Someone had just smoked a cigarette in the room (a NS room), discarding it in the wastebasket under the kitchenette sink. We are non-smokers and noticed the smell as soon as we opened the door. Called housekeeping and a CM came and sprayed a fabric deodorizer on the drapes, furniture, and carpet. We were not happy when we discovered the cigarette butt in the wastebasket in an otherwise immaculate room. In any case, the deodorizer did the trick and we did not notice any smoke at a later time. The second problem was a defective TV. We called maintenance and a CM came up, tested the TV, left for a short while and returned with a replacement. It was one of the VCR-equipped TVs recently removed from the 1-2-3BR units when the DVD-VCR upgrade was being done. We never got around to borrowing a tape to watch, but it was nice to have the option even though studios don't normally have this feature.

"Room ready" did not work very well on Sunday, 19 October. The key card printer was out-of-order at the BW, so the front desk could not print key cards. We checked in at about 11:30 am.The CM who checked us in was very non-responsive regarding the problem and simply told us we would have to return later. We went to lunch (at OKW-Olivia's) and returned about 1:30. Still no key card printing, but we noticed some guests being given blank key cards so they could access their rooms. Trying again, we were told our room was not yet ready. It appears that the first CM had assigned a room that was not yet clean, so now we had to wait, even though another room in our category might now be available. As it turns out, we got in the room about 4 pm with a blank key card. The card printing was finally functioning sometime on Monday morning and we got our printed key cards about noon.

Food and Wine: wonderful, wonderful, wonderful. We usually cannot travel during the fall so our normal visits are in January, March (spring break for me), and June. I teach at a college with a semester calendar, so the fall term prevents a vacation trip at this time of year. I'm on sabbatical this term, so we were finally able to go to WDW. The weather was fantastic and the Food & Wine festival is not to be missed. I did one or two wine tastings and one or two cooking demos each day and three beer tastings (I did the International Beers tasting twice). In addition, we ate lunch at the various food kiosks almost every day. Weekend days were really crowded, but we had Monday through Friday to enjoy the fest. Prior to 4 or 5 pm, there were virtually no lines at any of the kiosks. Just a great time to visit and enjoy.

Millionaire game at Disney-MGM Studios: I always play this at least once a visit. I made it to the hot seat last June, going out on the 250K-point question. So, Monday morning, after a nice visit to Muscles and Bustles, I walked to MGM for what I promised my DW would be my only attempt for this trip. I have found that the first game of the day is usually not too crowded, increasing the odds of getting into the hot seat. I never get the fastest finger question quickly enough (if I even know the answer ;) ), but have usually done well in the play-along game during the first contestant's play. I again made it into the hot seat as the second player at the 10:30 am session. And I won :p. I admit to guessing the answers to the last two questions. We're looking forward to the 3-night cruise at a time yet to be determined.

Thanks for the nice report.

I'm truly impressed with your Millionaire success! Congratulations. I've made the Hot Seat a number of times and have made it to the 1,000,000 point question once ... only to miss it- so I appreciate what you accomplished.

Enjoy the hard earned cruise!! ;)

Congratulations, Ralph! Sounds like a great visit, all the way around. Well, except for check-in. Hoping to get to the F&W festival someday, too. Diana

Congratulations!!!! A Millionaire win is rare and a considerable accomplishment. I often get to the $250,000 level in the home board game but the "real thing" (such as it is) is surely much harder!

Congratulations on your win!!! What a great bonus to a wonderful trip. Thankyou for your report!!:sunny:

Congrats on your win! You are going to have a great cruise :D

Way to go neighbor! We were in 2101 - standard view one-bedroom. I agree, the key situation was a mess. Our keys didn't get staightened out until Tuesday.

The Wine and Food festival is a wonderful event. We also enjoyed the many seminars and demonstrations. I was told that the festival started out as a long weekend originally. I was "unofficially" informed that it will be expanding next year to almost 45 days! Yum, yum - can't wait! :sunny:

I also checked in on Oct 19th. It was a pain. Our room was ready at 2 (thank goodness) but we had to go to the front desk again to get keys. My sister's room (a studio) was ready at 4 and they gave them the temporary keys to access their room. The next day they had to go back down there again to get new keys.

Congrats on your cruise!

How awesome! Congratulations! I was hoping to try for Millionaire myself, but never having actually tried I don't know how hard it will be. You have certainly inspired me to at least try!

I can't wait to experience Food & Wine. Sounds great!

Whoosh - I just got a rush from realizing that I have only 10 days until we start the drive down! Woo-hoo!! :hyper:

Congratulations on the big win!

I was there last Thursday during the first session of the day (also found it to be less crowded). I got in the hot seat for the first time ever (after many tries) and made it to the 250,000 point question.

There was a sign in the prize office that said there had been 71 cruise winners, so you are in an elite group!

.....Congratulations!!! So tell us(if you can) what was your winning question?

Winning question: Which one of the following Cole Porter songs was not originally written for the musical "Anything Goes": I Get a Kick Out of You, You're the Top, All Through the Night, and It's De-Lovely?

I guessed It's De-Lovely. I think I remember the other three titles as well, but I could well be wrong about one or another of these. I did a Google search to find a recording of the music and reconstructed the list from what I recognize. Interestingly enough, the review of the recording I looked at to refresh my memory of song titles (see this link ) noted that some productions add songs not originally part of the book for this musical and It's De-Lovely is one of these. I may have one of the four titles wrong, but I'm unlikely to forget the correct answer ;) .

I was grand prize winner number 71. The show host indicated that they average a winner about once every two weeks or so.

Thanks to all for your kind words.

Ralph

I forgot to ask: what category cabin do you get?! Can you upgrade it by paying the cash difference? I hope they didn't put you in "steerage" (11 or 12).

(Can you tell I'm planning to win too? :teeth: )
