Hi all-

Just a brief synopsis of our trip- I will do a complete trip report soon.

Arrived last Sunday about 11:00 am after flying in from JFK along with my DS and her family for a 5 night stay. We had our own separate studios. We both requested non smoking, pool view, upper floor. The CM at check in was absolutely wonderful and accomodating. She basically told us all the rooms available and let us pick. My sister was in 260, which had a huge balcony overlooking the pool. Her room was ready immediately. I picked Room 416, which has a small balcony - 2 chairs and small table- but fine for us.Our room was ready at about 1 pm. The room was spotless and beautiful. The best thing about the location was that the laundry was directly across from my room. That was very convenient because I am a laundry freak!

BCV is beautiful. It was nice having the hotel feel to it. SAB was unreal!! The sandy bottom of the pools was great. My kids loved it- I did the slide twice myself-it was alot faster than I thought! Alot of fun.Although there were a lot of people there from early afternoon on, it didn't seem crowded. Lifeguards were handing out wristbands when you went to get a towel and there was one or two lifeguards wandering around looking for people who didn't have one yet. All the LIfeguards were very friendly and nice. Had great meals at Beaches and Cream, Chef MIckeys, Boma, Rainforest Cafe and San Ange Inn. Can't really complain about a thing, except that I'm back in rainy, cold NY!!

I missed my OKW!!! But we will be going back there next year. My DS and DBIL bought 200 points at VB while we were there- and another DSIL and DBIL bought 200 VB while we were there too! I had to chain my hands together in order not to jump on the bandwagon:p

Please feel free to ask any questions!

jackie,

We were in room 401 at the same time you were there. As I sat down by the pool, I looked up at those rooms and wondered what they were like. Glad to hear that they were nice as well.

Glad you had a nice trip,
Rob

Thanx for the report. Glad you enjoyed your trip! Perhaps now you can horn in on some of those VB points????? ;)

Well, we own at BWV and VB but would really like to add a mere 50 on at VB- the incentive is so good. We love VB!!! My DH just keeps saying, how many vacations can we take?? I only get 2 weeks off a year!!! (Oh, I can be very creative tho:smooth: )

Just a quick question about the SAB slide....I am a water slide junkie, just LOVE them. BUT!! I have heard that you have to lie down on this one to start, is this right? And are you going too fast to be able to sit up in the middle of it? I really want to sit up for this ride, can you describe your experience? thanks!!

Yes, you have to lie flat for the entire ride! There is a "tunnel" for the first part of the slide then you are out in the open for the rest but I was going way too fast to sit up!! It was weird!! I like to sit up on those things but I couldn't do it. The lifeguards were telling everyone that you had to lay down, not allowed to sit up. It was a great slide!!

I always like to lie down on water slides. YOU GO FASTER! SAB's slide is awesome!

Would a 3 & 4 year old that likes AKL slide be comfortable on SAB slide, in your eyes? They also both liked the slide at BCV. Thanks

Hi Jackie, we had room 416 a couple of weeks ago. Great location, huh? I did laundry while there, too, and we loved being right around the corner from the elevator. My DH wants to "request" that room when we go in June! Diana

queenof4hearts.... You mention that the kids liked the slide at BCV. BCV only has a quiet pool with no slide. SAB is the pool at BC. My daughter was 4 the first time she went on the slide at SAB, she loved it better than the one at AKL, they have to know how to swim to use the slide at SAB though.

My son, who is 6 and learned to swim last year, would not go on the slide. After I went on it, I did not think he could handle it- even with swimmies, I thought it was too fast. My niece, who is 5 and doesn't swim but wears swimmies wouldn't attempt it either. However, my 10 yr. old and 13 yr. old loved it. I did notice some small kids enjoying it tho.

Macnjac87... Because of the closed in portion of the slide, they will not allow swimmies on the slide at SAB.

pkilgore.... SAB is Stormalong Bay. It is the pool at Yacht and Beach Club and Beach Club Villas. The slide itself starts from a ship and actually looks like the mast of the ship that has fallen, it goes accross the walkway and into the pool.

My kids were 4 and 5 when they first went on this and they loved it. We do have a pool in our backyard though so they are good swimmers.

Terry-
While there last week, the lifeguards were allowing kid with swimmies to go down the slide. I don't know if this changed because of the refurbishment of the slide or not, but I asked the lifeguard at the top just in case my 6 yr. old wanted to go.

Wow, thats great news for the little ones. They were not allowing this the last time we were there (before the refurb).

I was wondering if someone that is going soon can find out about this swimmie issue and let us know?

I know my 6 yr old neice will be crushed if she isn't allowed to go on.

Also, how deep is the pool that the slide enters into?

Thanks,
Lisa

The slide enters a pool which is 4' 9" and is seperated by a rope from the rest of the pool, with a lifeguard watching everyone coming out. You must swim away from the slide right away and get into the other part of the pool. I thought after seeing pictures of the slide and reading about it on the boards that my DS-6 would love it. However, it is much faster and more intense than it looks and he wouldn't go near it!!

Here is a photo which shows the slide exit marked at a depth of 4 feet or 1.2 meters:

Lifeguard or not, clearly a young child would need to be a strong swimmer and/or wear a flotation device in order to use this slide. Perhaps not a good idea in any case. It would be nice if they had an "intermediate" slide.
