My DH and I drove over Friday after work to spend Fri & Sat in a studio at WLV - to attend Night of Joy last night.

For those of you that haven't been down here in a while... after experiencing a really serious drout situation for quite some time, we are now receiving our share of rain, and the WLV are SURROUNDED by water. As you walk down the wooden pathway to the villas, you've got substantial standing water on both sides and, as you look over your balcony if staying on the "lake side," you see nothing but water below - beyond the landscaped area, which is quite high and dry.

Well. We got back to the room last night (this morning!) at about 1:30. Really wired from the concerts, we weren't quite ready to sleep, so we went out to sit on the balcony. Let me tell you!! Those entertainers at MK were good - but the sounds around the villas were AMAZING!! They were so LOUD!! I couldn't believe my ears!

So - the for those of you heading to WLV in the next little while - be sure to spend a little time on your balcony late at night, after all the "human noise" has gone away - and enjoy the sounds of nature. I think I now know why they call them "bull frogs." There were noises out there that I could have SWORN were coming from cattle - but I'm pretty sure it was from the amphibous types....

PS - the Villas were great as always, but overall attendance is so low - it was really sad to see...

I am so jealous that you can spend your weekends at the World!! We are about an 8 hour drive. Just too long for a weekend trip. This is probably the only thing I miss about not being a Florida resident any longer!(I grew up in Bradenton) Glad you had a great time, and that WL was great. I can't wait to get back again sometime. Erin

Thanks for the nature report! Those sounds are indeed frogs. WDW has quite an assortment.

We were in a BCV 5th floor room until this morning and found a green tree frog (the ones with the "suction-cup" toes) climbing up the wall of our balcony last night. What a great sight. Even though we were in a more highly humanized area (at BCV), there are some great nature sounds to listen for when the humans are scarce!

Glad you had a good trip too!! :)

Yeah, Doc - I read one of your other posts saying you checked out Sunday morning ... can't believe I missed you, again!! We spent our day at World Showcase before driving home, and stopped at BCV first to look around. We'll be staying there for a night in November to try it out!

ErinC - we've spent a week at Anna Maria every summer for as long as I can remember - we prefer the beaches in Manatee over Pinellas - less tourists!! :)

There's a lot of new development going up around Bradenton, though. We have friends who recently built a house there, coming from Pinellas County...

Glad you had a good trip!
