Just back! 3 pescetarians and 2 omnivores! Updated, Boma and final thoughts

:worship: You have a 1 year old who eats sushi thats really great!! I'm lucky if mine eat fish sticks :rotfl: great reviews so far!

This morning we had an 8:00 ADR for Donald's Safari Breakfast at Tusker House. We arrived at the AK parking lot at 7:35 and walked to the entrance where we waited for a few minutes in line where they checked our name on a list and let us in. We had a very pleasant walk back to Africa with the other families, stopping to take a picture of the Tree of Life on the way.
TreeofLife.jpg

We checked in and were called within a few minutes. We were shown the buffet area and told what to do before being brought to our table in the room to the left of the entrance and in the far corner. We met our server, who poured our Jungle Juice (YUMMY!) and since we had a few minutes before the characters arrived we went to hit the buffet. I had my DD1 in my arms so I only grabbed one small plate for her before heading back.
On this plate is a lot of her very favorite things: a blueberry muffin and fruit, grapes, watermelon and pineapple. She enjoyed it all, but especially the fruit.
TuskerHousefruit.jpg

I dropped DD1 off at the table with her grandma and went back for a plate for myself. This one had a cheese blints with cherry sauce (good, first bite was weird but I liked it the more I had it), Mickey waffle (my first, wow! DD1 liked it too), tater tots (what can I say, they're crunchy tater tots!), veggie egg type thing (no crust so not quiche, was good, but only lukewarm) and red potato wegdes (ok, nicely seasoned, but again only just warm).
TuskerHouseAmys.jpg

Then Donald arrived!
TuskerHousewithDonald.jpg

The characters were great, we got autographs and pictures from all of them. DD5 was very into it and loved the attention. DD1 really wanted to see them but is afraid of them when they get close, especially Goofy, but she talked about them all day! I think she'll be better soon, but that was our last non-princess character meal!
Here's us with Mickey!
TuskerHousewithMickey.jpg

Between characters I went back up to get another plate. By then the line over near the porridge and Mealie Pap was huge, I don't think people understood that you could start anywhere in the buffet, they were lining up over there and nobody seemed to want any. Since I wanted that I excused myself and just took some. I think some people were put out, but hey, it's not my fault they didn't understand! Plus I had a baby in my arms again! And I need me some mealie Pap!
Here's the Mealie Pap (tasted like really thick corn chowder, I liked it!) and 2 croissants, one for me and one for DD1. We both liked them, very fresh and tasty.
TuskerHousecroissantandMealiePap.jpg

At this point I wanted to try more different things and the other characters were coming (Daisy and Goofy) so my mom went up and got us some more.
Veggie Quiche (ok, peppers were overpowering), more wedges, tater tots (DD5 stole them) and scrambled eggs (ok). There were 2 more Mickey waffles too but the DDs took them! They liked them!
TuskerHousequiche.jpg

I didn't get pictures of Mom and DH's plates, but they liked their food. My mom's favorite thing was the corned beef hash with the corned bread topping and DH liked the egg frittata with meat in it. He also liked the bacon.

The service was great, he brought us our bill early without us even having to ask. I asked DH to ask for it early but he was more concerned about getting his cream for his coffee (he's NOT a morning person!). I really liked this breakfast and would definitely do it again. I liked getting out before rope drop and getting right onto the Safari.
Next year I think we're skipping AK though. We LOVE animals, but we don't particularly enjoy this park as much as the others. I really highly recommend the Finding Nemo Musical! It was amazing!

Off Topic!
WARNING: for those of you eating off-property too. We left AK around 1:30 and went to find some lunch on the way back to the condo. My mom got all excited when she saw a Cracker Barrel on 192 for some reason and we went there. IT WAS AWFUL! Seriously the worst food ever and not much choices for my daughters and I. The veggies tasted like chemicals or just YUCK! I had 2 bites of my mashed potatoes, normally my favorite food. It was gross, plus I found a big piece of rotted potato or something in it! My DH and Mom didn't like theirs either.

We checked in at 12:00 for our 12:25 ADR and had no problem getting into the front hall pretty quickly. The girls and I waited in line for a picture with Cinderella and waited about 10 minutes. DD1 freaked out and wanted to keep her distance! So it ended up just being DD5 in the picture.
We went upstairs and were seated in the middle of the room and to the left with a bench seat. It was a tight squeeze to get into my seat with a chair so close to the bench, but I got in. It was tough getting in and out though for pictures!
Our server, Don, was very nice and greeted us right away, taking our drink orders (milk for the girls, soda for the rest of us). Don brought out our appetizer, sorry no picture of that, everyone dug right in! It was 2 plates consisting of 2 pieces of bruschetta (very garlicky and tasty!), 3 cubes of orange cheddar (the girls ate all the cheese), a grape cluster (the girls love grapes), a small field green salad with a tangy dressing, and in the middle was marinated veggies (artichoke hearts and asparagus mostly) wrapped in proscuitto. My DH LOVED the appetizer and cleaned the plates. I took the cheese and grapes for the girls and has some bruschetta. It was very nice.

For lunch the girls had plain buttered pasta, which comes complimentary to children under 3, but as there is no vegetarian option for children on the kids menu we asked for the plain pasta for DD5 too. There's a fish option but we had ordered it last year for dinner and it was gross!
DD5 and DD1 were very happy with the plain, buttered pasta and fruit salad.
CRTkidspasta.jpg

I ordered the pasta pomodoro. It was VERY good. The veggies were very fresh and the sauce was very light, just a nice butter sauce with a few herbs and the diced tomato cooked down just slightly for it to release some juice. VERY nice dish.
CRTpastapomodoro.jpg

My Mom and DH both ordered the Major Domo's Favorite Pie and both of them really enjoyed it, especially my DH. He's fairly picky but really enjoyed every bit of this, the beef, the sauce on it, the nice flaky and buttery crust, he said it was just very well put together. He was a little concerned when he first saw the menu because the choices are limited, but I had told him I'd heard good things about Major Domo from here and he was glad he tried it.
CRTMajorDomo.jpg

For dessert my Mom and I both ordered the chocolate buckle is like a large chocolate muffin with cream cheese in the middle, whipped cream and chocolate sauce. It was very good, much better then I thought it would be just looking at it, I cleaned my plate!
CRTchocolatebuckle-1.jpg

Everybody else had the sundae with the chocolate crown. What can I say, it was a sundae, but DD5 sure seemed to enjoy it!
CRTchocolatebuckle-1.jpg

CRTAinsleyssundae.jpg

CRTJimssundae.jpg

I ate Dh's chocolate crown as he doesn't like dark chocolate. DD5 ate the other 2!

Today we had Belle, Aurora, Jasmine and Snow White as our princesses. They were all wonderful, but I was especially impressed with Belle. What a wonderful lady. DD1 was a little nervous around the princesses and just wanted to sit in her seat and eat her grapes. That was fine with me, I didn't want to overwhelm her or make her do something. The other princesses just waved at her, but Belle decided that she wanted to get closer to her. She squeezed in past the chair next to us and sat next to DD1 to include her too. It was so nice!
CRTBelleandgirls.jpg

The service was very good, drinks were kept filled, the food came quickly, and our server was super nice.

All in all I was super impressed with CRT today! We had a blast and really enjoyed ALL of the food! Even my DH was very impressed. He hadn't had high expectations but left there very happy.

I'll update next with a surprise addition. I took my DH out to the Poly last night for a view of Wishes from the Poly beach and then dinner at Kona Cafe! I'll fill you in more after we get back from Epcot later. Included is a review of one of my favorite entrees of ALL TIME!

On a whim I called Disney dining in the afternoon around 4 and got an 8:25 ADR for Kona Cafe that night. My mom said she would watch the girls and I wanted a much needed date with my DH. This is a very rare occasion back home!
I have always wanted to check out the Polynesian and thought this would be a good excuse and my DH loves fireworks so what would be better!
We arrived at the Poly around 7:45 and walked out back to the beach where DH grabbed a couple of chaise lounges and we relaxed while waiting for the show to begin.
PolyfirworksJim.jpg

The show was amazing! We had a great view of the castle from the Poly!
Polyfirworks2.jpg

Polyfireworks.jpg

When the show was over we went upstairs to check in at Kona. We were given a pager and waited about 10 minutes to be seated.
Our server introduced herself and took our drink orders. I was feeling adventurous and went with a drink the server suggested.
This is the Sand In Your Pants, which is a combination of a strawberry Daquiri and a Pina Colada, and yes I had the rum in it.
KonaSandinyourpants.jpg

It was VERY yummy! But I'm a lightweight, so I pretty much only drank 3/4 of it before I was loopy! I then went with my regular D. Coke!

We were given our bread and Macadamia nut butter, very yummy! I loved the combination of salty and sweet in the butter, but restrained myself from eating too much!
Konabreadandbutter.jpg

We ordered our appetizers: The duck potstickers for DH and I went with the shrimp tempura roll from the sushi bar. We were given the sushi barn menu and could order anything from it.

The duck potstickers:
Konapotstickers.jpg

DH found these just ok. He ate them all though which is saying a lot for him. He's not one to just eat something because it's in front of him, it must have been good enough to eat. He definitely wouldn't order them again though.

My shrimp tempura roll:
KonaTempurashrimproll.jpg

This did not have the typical nori wrap, I think it was more of a rice wrap like you use for spring rolls (I use these at home), but it wasn't quite as rubbery as the rice wrap I'm used to so I'm not sure of that. It was shrimp tempura with a sweet mango addition inside instead of the avocado I usually have with this kind of roll. I ate 3 pieces, it was just too sweet. I usually prefer savory over sweet and this was way too much. I tried one finger full of the sauce and that was it. I didn't much like this roll.

We finished our appetizers, what we wanted of them anyway (I had a lot left of mine) and then proceeded to wait more then 25 more minutes for our entrees! It was pretty ridiculous actually. Our server was very professional but I think the kitchen was slow. We saw others who were waiting as well, and another family near us with two small children asked that the kids' meals come out asap because they were quickly losing their patience (of course this was also well past 9:00).

Dh ordered the Teryaki Strip Steak for his entree:
KonaTeryakisteak.jpg

He scraped the pineapple off of the steak. He thought this was ok as well, he ate a lot of the steak, it was cooked medium as he asked but found it just a little too different for him. He liked the potatoes though and also enjoyed the broccoli rabe, which he'd never tried before.

I ordered the Tuna Oscar, which our server highly recommended. This was rare sushi quality Ahi tuna served over fried green tomatoes and asparagus with 3 little lumps of tempura fried lump crab and a mango sauce.
KonaTunaOscar.jpg

OMG! :lovestruc THIS WAS AMAZING! Seriously one of the best entrees I've ever had in my life, top 2 seriously! The tuna was cooked really nice, very pink but not raw in the middle, melted like butter when you bit into it. It had this amazing pepper rub all over it. The mango sauce was very savory which surprised me, I was afraid it would be sweet, it wasn't at all. The asparagus was perfectly cooked and the fried green tomatoes were awesome! The tempura lump crab was kind of an after thought compared to everything else, but it was good. It was worth waiting for this dish! I highly recommend it! My husband had some too and fell in love as well, he wished he had ordered this too. I really had to restrain myself from licking my plate after I was done!

We skipped dessert and headed home after. It was really easy to park at the Poly and I'm so glad I thought of this early that afternoon! Seeing Wishes was great! I loved my Tuna Oscar but Kona isn't on our list for next year. We just want to try other things too.

Up next: Coral Reef Review (can you say worst restaurant EVER?!) and late addition, surprise Spoodles meal! YUM!

We had an 11:30 ADR for Coral Reef. We arrived right on time having just gotten out of Honey I Shrunk The Audience, which we'd never seen before.
I didn't think to ask for a seat by the aquarium, and my DD5 had to use the bathroom, so by the time I did think of it our beeper was going off. We were seated way in the back in what was literally the worst seat in the house. My daughters were getting fussy so I just wanted to get them some lunch rather then have to go back out and wait again for a closer seat. We literally couldn't see much of the aquarium at all, my kids had to crane their necks to see, as did I.
Anyway, the food.
My mom ordered the Shrimp and Lobster cake.

She thought this was ok, she ate all of it if that tells you anything. It looked pretty good and I should have ordered this.
CoralReeflobstercakes.jpg

I asked for pizza for my DDs, to share one childs meal as they did at Sci-Fi. The difference here was that they brought out one child's plate with the pizza, the veggies and the apple slices and just an extra plate. It wouldn't have been a big deal except that at Sci-fi they had been really nice and put it all together for us on a seperate plate and added extra veggies and apple slices. Plus, at Coral Reef the veggies were very old and tired! I bit into one of the carrots just to see and it was not crisp.
CoralReefpizza.jpg

CoralReefkidsveggies.jpg

I had been looking forward to trying the lobster soup as I'd heard good things about it and I love Lobster Bisque. This sounded very similar to a bisque with the brandy etc. Well, let me just tell you, it is not lobster bisque, it's not even edible. My husabnd and I both ordered the lobster soup as our entree, we weren't very hungry and had been looking forward to this one thing here.
CoralReefLobstersoup.jpg

 It was the most disgusting thing. The consistency was quite gelatinous. I took one bite and paused, I just couldn't believe it tasted like what it tasted like, it was so bad! I took another bite, put my spoon down and pushed it away. And let me tell you, I am NOT a picky eater. My husband ate it, but when I asked him about it he said he just needed to eat something and hated it but ate it anyway. Our server asked if I liked the soup and I said no, so she asked if I wanted anything else. I just wanted to get the heck out of there by then and said no and to please take it off my bill. She said she would.
All in all, the worst meal our entire week. In fact, I'd rate it with the extremely awful Cracker Barrel restaurant on Route 192! It's THAT BAD!
We will definitely not be going to Coral Reef again. Not even to give it one more chance.

We didn't make an ADR for this one, it just happened, and I'm SO glad it did!

This was supposed to be a date night for DH and I at Epcot with eating around the world. We ended up getting to Epcot later then I intended, the girls were over-tired and it was difficult leaving DD1 with my mom. She finally booted us out the door though.
Earlier that afternoon we had grabbed FPs for Soarin' before we left, I hadn't had a chance to ride it earlier in the week because I did Baby Swap with DD1 and when everyone came off they decided they were hungry.
Anyway, we had FPs for 8:00, and since we had entered at the International Gateway we made our way over there, rode Soarin' and headed over towards France to watch Illuminations. We decided we'd try a chocolate crepe first and a Grand Marnier Slush. These are perfect together! So yummy!
We watched Illuminations and headed out the International Gateway and headed towards Boardwalk. We were hoping to find a good CS or something, but when I saw Spoodles and it didn't look busy, we thought we'd try. I'd heard so many good things about it.
We walked in around 9:30 and they were able to seat us in less then 10 minutes.
Our server, Tim, introduced himself and we chatted a little. He explained a lot about the menu in a way that my DH loves. He made some recommendations and really seemed to know what he was talking about, he knew the menu and the food very well. Definitely our best service all week!
We ordered our drinks, Coke and D. Coke.

We decided to share the 4 cheese Flatbread:

Spoodles4cheeseflatbread.jpg

This was so good! It had a roasted garlic spead underneath the cheese that was fantastic, very creamy and mild, not overpowering at all. The cheese was creamy and delicious, the goat cheese was very good and also mild, not too goaty. I highly recommend this!

Tim brought over the bread and oil, they had run out and it was fresh from the bakery next door. This was foccacia with an olive tapenade and was just wonderful. The tapenade isn't something DH would like so I had enough for both of us! It was salty and delicious!
Spoodlesbreadandoil.jpg

At this point DH was having a hard time deciding what to order. Tim asked him what he was deciding between and with some discussion DH decided on the Beef Kabobs, which Tim highly recommended. In fact, he recommends the wood fired meat because they do such a good job with it. This was a wood fired kabob (2) over a whole grain rice pilaf with an orange colored sauce on the beef. I tried a little finger of the sauce that wasn't touching the meat and we both found it very Indian in flavor, cumin in there, and it was different and DH dug right in! This was definitely DH's favorite entree by far all week, possibly one of the best he's ever had. The meat was cooked perfectly (medium) and was so tender he just used his butter knife to cut it.
Spoodlesbeefkabobs.jpg

I ordered the Lemon Shrimp Linguine.
SpoodlesShrimplinguine.jpg

This was also really good! The shrimp was cooked perfectly and there was a great lemon flavor from preserved lemons, the pasta was cooked perfectly as well and was creamy and delicious! I absolutely loved it! By then I was feeling full though so I made sure to eat all the shrimp and did end up leaving a little linguine. Tim asked if I wanted to take it with me and I said no but I would take the rest of the bread if that was ok, he said of course, brought a container and even brought more bread to fill the container with. It was so nice, and I knew my girls would enjoy the bread in the morning. I know I did!

We were too full for dessert, and we had the chocolate crepe earlier anyway.

Spoodles is definitely on our list for next year! I wish I could go again tonight! Everything was just so great, service food, atmosphere, it was wonderful! I think I could easily say it is one of my favorite restaurants anywhere. While the Tuna Oscar at Kona was extremely memorable and a favorite it was really the only truly good thing, while Spoodles was a better all-around restaurant.

We had a 4:50 ADR for Boma at AKL for Friday. We arrived at AKL at 4:15 and walked around the lobby and outdoors to see the animals, we then checked in at Boma upstairs at 4:45. We waited about 10 minutes before our beeper went off.
I've been really excited to try this restaurant, I like trying new things and there are a lot of vegetarian options here.
We met our server and he explained how things are ordered at Boma. All the way to the left are the desserts then the hummus and breads, then the salads, the soups, then the vegetarian options followed by the carved meats all the way to the right with a small selection of potatoes etc (potatoes with Afritude etc) on the right as well.
We ordered our drinks (soda for the adults and milk for the girls) and I put DD1 on my hip and went up to the buffet.

My first plate: On here is Cous Cous Marrakesh (really good, but I make something similar at home), Fufu (too much cinnamon, couldn't eat it), pap with a tomato sauce (really good!) and a corn mush with spinach and cheese that was very good too.
Bomaveggieplate.jpg

DD5's plate: mac n' cheese (she didn't like it but her sister did), fruit and corn muffins.
BomaAddisplate.jpg

3 kinds of hummus with pita and lavosh bread. My favorite was the olive one, the light colored one.
BomaHummusplate.jpg

Butternut Squash soup, too much cinnamon.
Bomabutternutsoup.jpg

Desserts: Everything was really good but I really liked the banana bread pudding and the cheese flan.
Bomadessertplate.jpg

I really enjoyed this restaurant, but my DH and Mom didn't really enjoy it, especially Mom. I guess it was just too different for her. Jim said the meat was dry, but he really liked the mustard sauce that was offered in front of the meat area.
As much as I'd like to return next year, I think it would have to be a solo meal!

I'm so glad I got to try the restaurants that we ate at this week! There were a few more additions then I had originally intended and that was great!

My restaurant experiences in order from least favorite to best of all!

Coral Reef (Never again!)
Chef Mickey (just ok)
Boma (I liked it but nobody else did)
Tusker House (good!)
Sunshine Season (I know, not a TS but I love it!)
Sci-Fi (we all loved it!)
CRT (we had a great time and the food was really good!)
Kona Cafe (Tuna Oscar is to die for!)
Spoodles!!!!!!!!!! OMG! Everything about Spoodles is just amazing!

I'm already planning our meals for next year. Was thinking about it the whole time I drove to pick up the dog today from the kennel.

1. Spoodles
2. Crystal Palace
3. Les Chef de France Or Le Cellier
4. Princess lunch in Norway (Akershaush sp?)
5. Mama Melrose or Sci-Fi again
6. California Grill
7. Emeril's at City Walk at Universal

Any other suggestions?

Thanks for sharing our experiences with us!

Thanks for your reviews! Spoodles is on the top of my list to try on our visit in November. The menu on allears shows butternut squash ravioli....sounds yummy! Hopefully it will still be on the menu then.

Thank you very much for all your reviews, it's helped me make some decisions.

Have you thought about trying The Wave at CR, it looks good for any meal, but especially lunch and dinner.

The Butternut squash ravioli was on the menu last week! I almost tried it, in fact my DH was surprised that I didn't, our server Tim highly recommended it. I was just in a mood for something lemony and the shrimp linguine really hit the spot! I think next time I'll try the ravioli! I hope it's still there then!

That's a good idea! I'll have to check that one out too! Thanks!

OMG! :lovestruc THIS WAS AMAZING! Seriously one of the best entrees I've ever had in my life, top 2 seriously! I would have to completely agree. I live in the PNW, eat a fair amount of amazing seafood on a regular basis and this was one of the best dishes I've ever ever had. I probably will go back to Kona just for that...and I want to try their Tonga Toast!
