Just Back 3/5/16...some AMAZING meals, disappointment at Signatures. (TONS OF PICS!) FINISHED

Tokyo Dining was our last dinner at Disney after we had previously cancelled Monsieur Paul. We thought it was FANTASTIC and we were impressed with absolutely everything, including the service. We are kind of picky about our sushi and thought the volcano roll we had was excellent. We were afraid after some comments about it being grocery store quality. But we didn't think so at all. The main course were perfect, and the beef rice was to die for. It's a beautiful restaurant with an amazing view. The only negative is that it was FREEZING in there. Like meat locker freezing. Everyone was shivering. And we forgot our coats, So it was a bit uncomfortable. But we will definitely book a meal here again.

View from our table

The Volcano Roll- A++++

I had a meal with 4 huge fried shrimps with sweet hoisin sauce, a ton of beef rice that was the most amazing thing I've ever tasted, soup, some sort of cold noodle salad, and these little pickle like cucumbers.

My husband was also really impressed. he had the grilled chicken with teriyaki, veggies that tasted like hibachi style veggies, some sort of friend mashed potato and sweet potato, and the phenomenal beef rice.

We skipped dessert since none of the options really appealed to us, and we were STUFFED!!!

On the day we had to go to home we went to Olivia's for breakfast, it was close by and we had never tried it. We had a pretty early flight and got there when they opened around 7:30. It was an adorable place, and there weren't many people there, even around 9:00 on a saturday when we left. Our server was great, the meals were very good, although nothing super exciting or unusual. We probably wouldn't go out of our way to come here again, but it's very convenient for a sit down breakfast if you're staying at POR or POFQ. It's right next door.

"Waffles and Eggs"

"Pancakes and Eggs"

So that's that! I hope some people found these pics and thoughts useful! We had an amazing time overall and hope to return again soon!

Dinner at California Grill had some good points, but overall we left hungry after $180. We liked this meal better than Jiko, and the service here was very good. I've read some reviews lately about bad service, but I have to say, the service was one of the best experiences of the trip. We had a gentleman in his 50's or 60's, and he was phenomenal. We were mainly disappointed again in my entree choice, the filet, which was again about 5 bites of food as I said earlier. This place was PACKED. And very very loud. I don't notice restaurants being loud much, it's not something I'm picky about. But this place was freakin loud. It didn't necessarially bother us, but I didn't remember this from our previous visit. There were a lot of large groups of businessmen, some kind of "how to make money" conference going on.

The round rolls were nothing special, but the square (probably focaccia bread) was soft and AMAZING.

We had a 6:00 reservation, so we did not watch the fireworks or anything. I had a glass of wine and my husband had a beer. We each had an appetizer, he had FISH TACO appetizer, with cilantro tortillas and chipotle crema. He liked these. Didn't love them, but liked them. There was a lot of strong mayo flavor and the tortillas fell apart really easily, but it was a good start.

I tried the Sonoma Goat Cheese Ravioli. It tasted as I expected one goat cheese ravioli would after seeing about a billion pictures of the thing. It was definitely tasty, and I do love goat cheese! But I wasn't a huge fan of the broth it was in. I was picturing more of a sauce, and this was soup. but I did really enjoy it!

My husband's entree was delicious. If I would have ordered this, I would have left happy :) He got the seared Jumbo Scallops with sweet potato puree, pink lady apples, and pomagranite pinot noir syrup... It really was fantastic and a very good portion size for scallops. he enjoyed this very much. It was about 3x the size of the filet. Everything about it was perfect.

My entree was the filet with tomato butter sauce, and heirloom tomato risotto. About a 3.5 oz steak with 2 teaspoons of risotto. Those are small cherry tomatoes on the side, again the entree looks much bigger in pictures than it actually was. The tomato butter sauce was delicious. I would have even been happy with the tiny steak if there was more risotto. Because that too was YUMMY. But very disappointing. My husband was like, "again with the portion size problem???" when it came out.

So we ended up going to Ghiradelli downtown Disney later on and split a sundae after some awesome shopping. The dinner had some good points, but we had been so let down with the entree portion sizes that after this we cancelled both Citricos and Monsieur Paul for the other choices which ended up being very nice meals!

i am actually kind of glad to hear the portions are good but small. I am planning to go here again on the DxDDP so will have an appetizer, entree and dessert and planning to go to MVMCP after so glad to hear I won't be TOOO stuffed. But I can see that it's not a great value :-p I had the pork two ways last time and it looked very small also but after the sushi and before dessert it was all plenty.

Yes I had the pork two ways as well before! I really enjoyed it. That was about twice the size of the filet entree if that gives you an idea. I also would have been full with sushi, even with this entree. Sushi really fills me up! But one ravioli with 6 bites or so of an entree was just a bad combo. Especially paying Out of pocket. Lesson learned, don't get the filet if you're hungry. Haha! But like I said my husband's scallop entree was wonderful.

yeah I get it. I posted pics of the pork to my fb account when I went in september 2014 and a friend of mine posted that she'd still be starving after that! But with a spicy kazan roll and dessert I was nicely full without being overstuffed, which is kind of crazy lol. But it's a different situation for me - I am taking a vacation solo with my 8 year old (he was 6 last time we went) and trying to fit in some of my old favorites while still keeping it appropriate for him. CA Grill was great last time, great view, we went right when they opened and it was not full and service was quick... the things you think about with a kid. I am doing the DxDDP so looking at the big picture and not any one check. It's just part of the overall vacation experience for me. But yeah I'd be a little torqued too if I just paid nearly $200 for a bill and left unsatisfied!

wow...more great reviews and photos...I was drooling here...another month and a half and we will be there...thanks so much for your food porn..loved it !!!

thanks for your excellent dining reviews!! I might have to try Tokyo Dining and Yak and Yeti on my next trip!!! :lovestruc

Thank you for your report! It was fantastic! I'm so glad you liked Tokyo Dining. In all of the many many trips we've taken to WDW, we've never eaten at Tokyo Dining, and I have it booked for our upcoming trip.

Yes we absolutely loved it. It was one of the best meals of the trip. The restaurant is also very pretty and the service was amazing! I hardly see any reviews for this place so I really wanted to post. Don't hesitate to get sushi if you like it! Bring a coat! Haha.

Loving your reviews & pics! Tokyo Dining is also a favourite of mine. I get the Roppongi (tempura shrimp & scallops combo) & the sides are very similar to your shrimp entree. Love it. I also love the window table & the gorgeous view. Probably the best service in Epcot if not all the WDW parks. Did you get a chance to see or hear the Japanese drum show outside in the courtyard when you were eating?

Thank you for a great review and all of the pictures. I agree with you about Cali Grill. This time we tried the chicken and it was so salty that I could not eat it! Next trip, I think we will try Tokyo Dining.

Yes, I'll definitely make sure I have something with me! We have a local diner that's always freezing, winter or summer. I hate eating & shivering, lol! I do love sushi, so will be sure to get some!

nooooooo it can't be over already! thanks for the great review.

We did not get to see that unfortunately! We had some late fastpasses in future world before dinner and ended up hurrying to our Tokyo Dining reservation! But we JUST missed that. They were finishing the drum show right when we got there!

I agree that this place is a real gem. I wanted to try it for so long but hadn't heard a lot about it, (probably because a lot of people consider this food a little more "adventurous" even though there's some very normal things on the menu) but we love Japanese food. Especially sushi. Im. glad we tried the entrees though because we were so impressed. We were lucky to get a window table but really any table in there would have an amazing view!

I'm glad you liked Boatwrights! We're staying at POR for the first time and I was hoping for a nice TS option near us.

It was seriously wonderful. Ask to sit in the "upper section". Its prettier by the fireplace :). Everyone around us was like "YUM this is amazing". I don't know if you've ever stayed at POR before but I could write a novel about how amazing the stay there was.

Great reviews and a lot of useful information! Ty SO much for taking the time to share your trip with all of us!
