I live in Northport, NY on the North Shore of Long Island.
I just came back from listening to a BlueGrass band featured tonite on the Friday nite “Happenings on Main Street” http://www.villageofnorthport.com/home/index.php/events/happenings-on-main-street-2012 while watching a great sunset.
The village of Northport embodies all that is good in the world. It’s a charming town that is nestled away from the big city and from any main roads and has a low crime rate. It has a theatre on Main Street, with broadway quality plays (many of the actors are experienced from their work in Manhattan) and yes this is an artsy town with two galleries, tons of great outside restaurants, with outdoor seating and this town epitomizes Main Street USA in DisneyWorld, with many similar shops you might find there, with more ice cream shops per square foot than I have ever seen in any town anywhere in the US.
It seems like everyone has a dog (except me) and they are paraded on the dock above the harbors water and alongside the perimeter of the waters edge.
These photos have nothing to do with Disney, but the weather tonite was choice and the sunset superb. So for those who had a difficult week at work or in life (like me) I hope these parting photos this evening adds a little tranquility to the end of your tough day and work week!
BTW . . . Northport is very well known for its 10K Cow Harbor Race every Fall where several thousand people race throughout the community . . . many runners who are preparing for the NYC and Boston marathons will participate in this race http://www.cowharborrace.com/
