The new policy has been in discussion by all of the Webmasters and Mods for a few weeks now. Lindy and I have both brought our concerns to the other Mods on the boards.

First things first. Lindy and I are pretty much in agreement that this will not effect our area of the boards much, if at all. If I recall correctly, the last political debate we had was "Who's version of 'At last' was better, Beyonce's or Etta's".

Now lets get down to business as to what will and will not be tolerated on this area of the boards.

We are a GLBT area, so of course concerns about certain "political and religious" topics will continue to come up. Lindy and I will do our best to Mod on a case by case basis. For now, I think it's safe to assume the following examples will give you a sort of "guide" as to what direction the boards are going in....

"What do you think of Prop 8?" Not allowed

"We plan to get married at Disneyland, and now that Prop 8 has passed, how do we as a gay couple go about doing this?" Allowed

"What do you think of "insert church name here" stance on gay rights?" Not allowed

"We are headed to WDW, are there any Gay friendly churches in the Orlando area? Allowed

"What do you think of Gay Days at WDW?" Not allowed

"Anyone going to Gay Days and want to meet up?" Allowed

If you have any questions please feel free to contact myself of Lindy. A general rule to follow when posting should be "Will this post lead to debate, or information sharing?" Please remember this area of the Dis was designed for all people of the GLBT community to share information about Disney, not to debate the merits of politics or religious views.

Mike

I should give wallyb whatever he wants, whenever he wants it, and as many times as he wants it - Allowed :flower3:

I just want to thank Mike and Lindy for their efforts.

I appreciate that you've already brought some of our concerns to the attention of the mods and webmasters prior to the announcement of the new policy.

This isn't going to be easy on either of you, I know. Thanks for doing this thankless job on our behalf!

You guys rock!:thumbsup2

Appreciative, but still COMPLETELY DISAGREE with this new stance and although we cannot have signatures that are political or religous, I don't see anything about having one encouraging the revocation of this new policy.

I mean, seriously "What do you think of Gay Days at WDW?" Not allowed...I mean that is a pretty broad statement. That conversation could go a million ways.

I look at this change sort of the way Facebook changed. They realized they were a private entity and started changing their TOS, etc, but at least they realized the method upon which they did it wasn't working and decided to start seeking out input of their users.

Next, can we assume since these two subjects are now banned, we'll stop seeing advertisements relating to these two said subjects?

I completely disagree with the policy as well. The DIS was a place where people of varying opinions came together and it was a great place to learn and hopefully to educate a little. Who knows how many people who were absolutely against gay rights learned a little bit from reading posts by gay people who were actually affected by anti-gay laws? Who knows how many people who "didn't know any gay people" saw us a little differently after reading about the struggles we had to overcome?

Instead of banning or warning the persistent baiters, the owners chose the nuclear option. Instead of one or two people being unhappy, now there is a bunch of people that are unhappy. :sad2:

Mike and Lindy, I truly appreciate all you two are doing to help us understand these new rules. I think most, if not all of us, hold absolutely no hard feelings towards you two for what you have done and have to do to enforce these new rules.

That being said, I think they stink as they relate to this particular forum. It makes me seriously worry that the whole forum might disappear one day. It is not the fault of the gay and lesbian community that a few have made their plight for equality out to be political or religious. Yet, it will be the gay and lesbian community who suffers the most... I know, as a straight person, that I am not qualified to speak of such things, however, I have made friends on this forum, friends that I care for and to have them slighted once again really upsets me.

People on the Community Boards could get nasty and unfortunately now an entire aspect of someone's life and struggles cannot be talked about b/c of a few close-minded individuals.

I am not sure if much of what I just said makes sense, I know I am rambling. I will shut up now.

I think you are qualified just fine:thumbsup2 and I could not have said it better.

I still think it is bs, shoving us back into the closet.

So i guess I can't talk about what happened to my gf last night becasue it would be political in nature. It had to do with her teammates and Gay days.:guilty:

Yes Mike an Lindy I appreciate your efforts too -
and to show that appreciation I'm sending you each gift baskets
identical to the gift baskets I got from you when I reached my celebrated post counts.

Thanks so.
;)

Trust me, Mike and I both made our concerns very clear when this issue first arose. We are both very much on the same page about how we are handling the issue.

Our board isn't going anywhere. The question was posed last night on the CB by a DIS'er who said the forum shouldn't be allowed to stand because some would view this as a religious issue. :sad2: The Webmasters and Mods that responded to that DIS'er made it very clear that our board has a purpose and is not going anywhere. :thumbsup2

Honestly, I do not forsee any problems with business as usual on our board. Again, the only reason that I closed the two threads that I closed last night was due to the :stir: that was going on over on the CB. If we can keep out collective cool over here until this thing has a chance to blow over....give it a couple of months, then I really don't think that you would ever be able to tell that anything really changed on this board.

Thanks for being understanding! :grouphug:

Thanks Wally!

UPS?

Fed Ex?

Or Wells Fargo?

Which truck should I be looking for? :confused3

Now go get me a tonic! :lmao:

Guys, please don't be afraid to post anything that wont result in a debate over here. When is the last time we had a political debate on this board? I really cant remember one. If you have something you want to discuss, lets say about Gay Days at Disney, this is the place to do it. Let Lindy and I do the worrying about if it's appropriate or not! That's what we get paid the big bucks for after all!

I KNEW you were all getting rich off of these forums. Truth finally comes out. ;)

See ,it goes directly against that one.
And you know once posted someone will find it that agrees with what happened to her.

I also agree with some on the cb:scared1: that this should be closed down if those are to remain the new rules.

Of course i still don't get why you can now talk about facebook ..... :)

Mike & Lindy,

Wishing you all good luck for the next few weeks. Clearly this is a time of transition and until the dust settles you will get caught in the storm. You both do a great job and hope this settles quickly. For some reason the old quote that you can please some of the people some of the time, but you can’t please everyone is coming to mind.

Reading these posts provides a lighter side to my work day.
:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:
Best of luck
Don

The question was posed last night on the CB by a DIS'er who said the forum shouldn't be allowed.

:confused3 They have a point, don't they? Allowing this board to exist at all is a contradiction of the rules as far as I can tell.

From a legal point of view.

As long as there are intolerant people in the world, regardless of their ability to shout us down with religious or political rhetoric here on this messageboard, this board will continue to exist. We as a community need a safe space to gather, chat, bond, and occasionally discuss planning for or details of a trip to WDW.

I don't see the existance of this board being solely an issue of religion or politics. Certainly those issues affect our community, but we are not exclusively defined by them.

Just wanted to add my thanks to O'Mike and Lindy for the good work they do as mods. It's sincerely appreciated.

I guess this is the way I think too. Hypocrisy is, well....hypocricy.

I lurk on this here forum, and think you are the sweetest. :lovestruc
You better not go anywhere:flower3:
