They couldn't have worse timing. I'm called to start August 18. My classes start again on August 20!! But my major concern is DS. I really have a problem being in West Palm when he's so far away. He's an insulin dependent diabetic, and I'm really uncomfortable about this. I've called his endocrinologist's office and left a message to see if they can send me a letter. One of the reasons to be excused is..."I am a primary caretaker of a medically incapacitated person. (Submit a doctor's letter.)" They don't define what they consider "incapacitated." As it is I've always got my cell phone on vibrate while I'm in classes in case something happens. I can't imagine being on a jury and NOT being reachable!! I should change "primary" caretaker to "only" caretaker. It's worth a "shot"...bad pun.
If he were to have a medical emergency, it would be a nightmare. Not to mention that the earliest DS can be dropped off at school is 7 a.m. (hopefully the teacher is there on time!) Then be sitting in court 20-25 miles away at 8:00. Yikes!

I would think students shouldn't have to go. And so did my friend in NJ where I'm originally from! That must be why I have it in mind.
No sense in postponing.
