I just got a notice TODAY for Jury Duty 2 weeks from today which is the day I Disembark the Dream and head to WDW!! I am normally a very calm person...I'm a nurse...but I'm freaking out! Has anyone ever had this come up before??

Wow, that's awfully short notice for jury duty. Are you able to postpone it to another date? I know in our state, Massachusetts, we can postpone it once.

In NY you are allowed to postpone your duty one time for up to 6 months. Can do it online or call. Good luck!

keep calm.
you just have to call them on monday and ask for a delay.
they generally don't have a problem with it but you can only delay once.

Call the jury coordinator asap and explain the situation. They are usually very accommodating as long as you contact them beforehand.

Thank You, Everyone. I'm in TN and hopefully will be able to postpone it. Have to wait til Monday morning naturally before I can call. I'm trying to relax but it's slow happening!

I postpone all the time. I've never had to show anything, just write a letter. YMMV. Have a good trip.

Yep. I myself was served Jury Duty for this June. I will be at WDW till June 4th. I asked for an extension and it was granted.

(I'm in TN too! They must have found all the Disney cruisers and served jury duty :rotfl::rotfl:

I imagine you can postpone it. They may be shocked you actually called them rather than blow it off and show your excuse later. I would find their website (if they have one) and it probably has info to help you out. Don't stress, this happens all the time.

Me too. I'll admit I've thrown it in the trash a few times. I just write a note saying I homeschool my kids, and if they would like to send a tutor to my house to take over I would be happy to sit on a trial. I never hear back from that after that.

You should be able to get a delay. That's pretty standard as they know people travel, have busy times at work, get sick, etc.

I've had to ask for a postponement due to vacation plans. It's really not worth stressing over.

I got called for federal jury duty in Maryland which is an entire month. They deferred me from May to June (DD's graduation). But we have a cruise booked July 4. If I get on a trial the end of June that will go long, I'm not going to be a happy juror...

I had this happen once , not Disney, but another planned vacation. Somewhere on your notice should be a phone number or contact of some type, where you ask for a postponement. If not, contact the clerk of the court or where person signed the letter/ notice and contact them. In fact I would trot down there Monday, cruise papers in hand.

I really do not think you will have a problem.

*keeping my fingers crossed for you*

In the federal courts, there are assigned staff who work with jurors. Go to mdd.uscourts.gov for the phone number for jury staff and call to explain your situation. I can't imagine they won't accommodate you. There are very few jury trials anymore, so even if your dates can't be moved, it's pretty unlikely that you will actually wind up on a jury.

Wouldn't that be weird if you two had ended up on the same jury...

Caution: every state/city is different and has different rules/policies!

It's not easy to be excused in Indianapolis (the notification states you must GO to the courthouse to request to be excused. yeah, no. Perhaps you are in the hospital or are away on vacation) and the courts have a 50% no show rate [with a threat of a fine or bench warrant if you don't serve]...it's crazy! And very frustrating for those of us who would like to comply but need reasonable ways to do so....no phone number is provided to talk with a real person...the courts just summon twice as many people as they need...geez

Good luck OP
