Monday July 25th is once again a beautiful day! There are now only 3 of us in the room (as little cosuin-10 is attached to her father's hip). MY hangover decided that today would be a good day to sleep in a bit...but not to late..I was up and running around 9:30am. We all were a little fuzzy this morning as we sat on the balcony and enjoyed the fabulous breakfast spread from the lounge. I am officially loving the tropical orange juice....sooooooo tasty.
We shake off the haze and head for the Magic Kingdom to meet with Older cousin (34) and the kids. We try to get Aunt an ECV...they're out...but offer her a wheelchair and a pager that wil lgo off when they have one in...I tell her she has no choice and I win the arguement. We get the wheelchair and make a bee-line for the Harmony Barber Shop. Little Cousin (6) needs a haircut...so we talked his parents into waiting until he arrvied so he could get a WDW haircut.
The Barber Shop Quartet is in the shop singing and immediatly latch on to little cousin (6). They pose for a picture with him wearing one of their hats and a bow tie, the mickey mouse cover and the huge plastic scissors....click...oh no...you must be kidding me...out of film. BLAST!
I run out of the shop and into the Emporium (my old store) and buy a disposible camera. I rush to open it and return to the shop...whew....disaster narrowly diverted.
Well, during all of this, little cousin (10.f) sees another little girl in the other chair getting her hair "painted" with mickey heads and glitter...I notice her eyes light up and tell her she can have the same hting done if she wants. Wahoo! She's extatic and finally gets her turn...meanwhile the barper Michel is working his way through little cousin's (6) hair. The cutting is done..now time to add color to his blonde top....Little cousin picks red (the cardinals colors...Im training these kids well!) and when they said red WOW they meant it...his blonde hair was now Fire hydrant color! Eventually little cousin (10) is done and she decides I need to have the same thing done.
At first I laugh it off....then everyone (including kids I have never seen before) is egging me on...so rather than be a party pooper, I hop right into the chair...15 minutes later my hair is spiked straight up, with orange tips, covered in "pixie dust" confetti, with a Giant Orange Mickey Mouse Head painted on the back of my head. The kids ate this up...I had once again solidified my position as "the cool one". We tried to get my other cousin (22) but he declined. We pose for some pictures and then head off into the hot summer day. We stroll through the Emporium, I run into some old friends and co-cast members at the emporium, we exchange pleasantries and emails....then its off to see the castle show. It was a nice show...the kids loved it.
We head to Pirates, en route the pager that the ECV people gave my aunt goes off, I run her back to the front of the park to exchange the wheelchair. We rejoin the rest of the groupd and explore the rest of Adventureland...we hit my other old stomping ground..the Jungle...and one of my old friends is the skipper..so of course he picks on my cousins and makes a huge deal over our hair. In fact all throughout the park people comment about our hair.."cool..." "now thats awesome" "where can I get that?" It was definatly a good thing! At lunch time we head to Pecos Bills...we eat outside on the porch, dodging scenes for Hitchcock's "The Birds"....then its off to fantasyland to see Philharmagic, Dumbo, Pooh....now to Tomorrowland..saw the CoP, TTA, and Buzz. We do some shopping and then head for the Poly. We decide to kick back and take a late afternoon break.
We hit the volcano pool and the slide again. Play in the sand on the beach. We have dinner at Kona Cafe and then head back to the room. The Cardinals are on ESPN and the kids are tired so they nap and we watch the redbirds play the Reds. Its almost 8 when the kids wake up and the game is tied at 5..who cares..it's Enight...so back to the MK.
I love E-nights...we dont have to wait for ANYTHING! We see all 8 attractions at least once (everything not in fantasyland we saw twice). This is Little cousin (6)'s first time doing wild rides....he LOVES them all..he runs around the park with us all night repeating things like "this is the best night of my life!" and "Josh, I love being here with you and uncle___, you're the best uncles ever!" I will never forget tonight.
We have a scary moment on Space Mountain (the 2nd time). I get in the car sittign in the second seat (little cousin 6 is in the front). Well I am a big guy, tall and overweight..but I have NEVER had any problem riding rides at WDW...heck I jut got off of space and it fit just fine 5 minutes ago..I didn't get fatter in 5 minutes! Well the lapbar on Space Mountain has plenty of room to lock, but doesn't. The load CM comes around and checks the lapbars...she pulls mine, its not locked, she stares this blank stare (cocks her head to one side like a puppy dog) and shrugs..she tells me to hold on a moment.
I look around nervously, I try to latch it again. no luck...its obviously faulty. The CM then returns, ushes o nmy lapbar, shrugs and says "oh well...you'll be fine, you're big enough" My jaw drops...I'm shocked...before I can say anythign the ride has begun moving. I grab the bar and attempt to hold it. We're of...on the most painful ride I have even been on. I am doubled over in pain on the first hill as I slide in my seat, racking my crotch on the lapbar. the bar keeps bouncing up and down on my stomach..leaving a huge bruise (you can still see it) then the big hill...oh goodness, racked again....
Finally its over. I get off and limp to the exit. I ask a CM to speak with a manager..she asks why..I explain...her answer "oh, she probably thought it was your size...you weren't going anywhere" Again my jaw drops. I want someone important to hear my pain. about 20 minutes later I am talking to a supervisor who says he's sorry and is making me feel like he cares until he chimes in and says the same thing...it was probably because of your size, your not going to fall out. I roll my eyes and reiterate..Im fat...but im not that big! frustrated, insulted and feeling a bit self conscious we head toward the front of the park right atclosign time. I take some night time pictures of Main Steet...the MK is so beautiful at night. I've read that night tiem was Walts favorite tiem at Disneyland...and I can see why..its so breathtaking.
At 2:15 am we're back in the room. Tomorrw is another big day at WDW..so it's off to bed...the trio head back to the POP and we hit the sack...what a great night....oh and the cardinals won...my dad called my cell phone while we were riding splash mountain...quick conversation went like this:
"Hey Josh...Cards won in extra innings"
Oh yeah? score?"
"__to__ Cards win"
Oh thats cool..le tme call you back, Im on splash mountaaaaiiinnnnn splash....we had just hit the first fall...that was funny.
Well Hope you have enjoyed this trip report. More to come. Will the POFQ EVER CALL ME BACK? Will the cruising duo enjoy their trip? Will I ever get tired of this AMAZIGN view?
Tune in next time to find out all this and more!
