Juneteenth set to become a federal holiday in the USA

Until a few years ago I had never heard of Juneteenth nor the significance of it. I think it is about time that this important date is finally being recognized.

No paid MLK, Prez, Columbus, or Vets Day in my company.

We get MLK Day and Vets Day, but apparently years ago, our union negotiated swapping Columbus Day with the day after Thanksgiving.

It's already a state holiday here, but I'm all for making it federal. If there's a reason to add a federal holiday, this is definitely a perfect one.

If you are a federal employee you get federal holidays off paid.

In this climate, of course it passes unanimously. I don't have a dog in the fight. Another holiday, great. I'm sure most companies will just take one day away or offer a floating day. When MLK day was added in WA State, they took away a day of Christmas. Marketers will love a June holiday, it's a dead period.

Concacaf Gold Cup final on August 11 in Las Vegas if the USMNT make it. I wish we could get a day off every time a USA sports team gets to play in a final. In all seriousness, this new holiday will do a lot of good for the country I think.

And it only took about 140 years after the first one that women were allowed to participate.
I'll gladly take a holiday that commemorates that even if grumpy old men don't think it matters.

There has been a push to make election day a holiday. Why not make it "suffrage rights" or something and just celebrate the whole process.

Will it be an additional paid day off? Not likely. In our state when Martin Luther King, Jr. Day was made a federal holiday, we lost Good Friday, making it a trade off in terms of total days off.

Sure ...Victory Day(aka VJ Day). It's a holiday here in Rhode Island -2nd Monday of August

I agree -does seem like it deserves a better identifier, like Emancipation Day
