June Gloom?

We are planning a trip to Disneyland June 16-23 and I am hearing about So.Cali's june gloom. Can anyone fill me in? I want that sunny California that I see in pictures, will it be cloudy and overcast the whole time?

Also, we want to do some other things besides Disney (no hate mail please) For example: Farmers Market, Universal, Wicked, Beaches, El Capitan Theater. I really want to stay at the Disneyland Hotel the whole time, but would it be wiser to spend a few days closer in to these attractions or just plan for driving.

It can be hazy in the mornings, beautiful and sunny in the afternoon, beautiful and clear at night. Afternoon highs in the low to mid 80's.

Well June gloom isnt as bad. I know exactly what your thinking as I was in the same mind set last year and let me tell you, there is absoloutely nothing to worry about. June gloom is where its a bit over cast first thing in the morning so you might need some socks and a light jacket, but you will want to be wearing shorts and sandles come the after noon. The clouds disappear before noon and it gets so warm and sunny which makes you want to take a dip in the hotel pool. Its not as bad as the name makes it sound believe me.

If you want to do something other then Disneyland, I would say check out the Gray Line website if you are not driving. They sell tickets to different parks and attractions and they will pick you up from your hotel and drive you right to the park, then pick you up later and drop you back off at your hotel. its fabulous.

I like going to Universal, I think its fun especially since the new Simpsons ride is opening in May. That would be fun to check out if you were there. I would also say that Sea World or the Sandiego zoo would be fun. Or the Medieval Times Dinner and tournament.

If you have small children with you, I totally think lego land is neat for them.

Almost never. We are pretty dry from April until November most years! I mean, we can get rain during those times, but it's rarely significant, and doesn't last very long.

We love June gloom! Just means the heat gets pushed off a few hours, making it more tolerable! But it's always sunny and warm by around noon.

You may not even get any June gloom though by the time you'll be there. We've found by the later part in the month that there was none.

If you want to go see Wicked in June, I suggest getting tickets now (depending on how many tickets you might want together). It's a great show and worth seeing while you're here!

The Pantages Theatre (Wicked) and the El Capitan (Disney's Soda Fountain) are only a few walkable blocks apart. They are about an hour from Disneyland, but allow 1 1/2 - 2 hours just to be safe!

Thanks for the tip on the Wicked tickets, I will do that this coming week once I firm up my plans. I guess I could do both El Capitan and Wicked in one day?!! Maybe even add in the Farmers Market? Thanks again!!

So good to hear that June Gloom isn't as bad as I have it pictured. It actually sounds ideal now!! And thank you for the Gray line tip! We may have to use that to go to Universal.

On our trip last year we didn't have any, and our last day was the 14th. So you've got a good chance of not having it!

Last year we had a lot of fog in the morning. We were there June 25.

The closer you are to the beach the longer June Gloom and May Gray lasts in the day. At the beach, there are days where it can last all day. Disneyland is far enough from the beach that it is not that effected by June Gloom and May Grey. You will be fine.

In 2005, we stayed near Disney but drove into the LA area twice. Once to go to Hollywood and see all the tourist attractions and onto Venice Beach . The other day we drove to the Huntington Beach area. I am afraidy cat when it comes to exploring areas I don't know much about, but I always felt safe. We printed maps at home so we knew exactly what freeways to take and where our location was. Hope that helps! The only real problem we had was coming home from Venice beach, it took us 6 hours, yes you read that right, 6 hours to get back to the Disney area!! It was unusually rainy and we hit it just at the wrong time. So my only advice is to plan accordingly and take it as it comes as far as the traffic is concerned! We probably would have been better off hanging around the beach area until 8pm or so and then heading back but we left at 4pm and didn't get back until 10pm!! It was an experience our family will never forget.

Sorry, don't have any experience with the shuttle, it is a bit pricey I noticed! But it may be worth it to not fight the traffic!! We are still considering that option.

It's basically the same as June Gloom...it starts early in the morning as a heavy fog layer, especially right on the coast, and then it may or may not burn off completely by the afternoon.

I don't think it's anything to be scared of.

LOL...our two trips in 2006 took place during very cool snaps...hats and mittens and such. My DH is beginning to think that the whole SoCal sunny weather is a big plot! Hopefully we will get a little warmth and sunshine! The averages I looked up for temps seem to say that the temps are pretty high, I don't mind a little fog.
