June 8, 2010 WONDERful 5 Day Key West Cruise

I just wanted to give everyone a head's up on our Key West Day. I was looking on the city of Key West website for maps/tourist info and found out that Pridefest 2010 starts on June 9th in town and is the largest Festival they have in the city. The kickoff party is at 5 pm, so be forewarned that the streets are going to be jam packed with people. There is supposed to be a street party that night at one of the bars (I didn't look into which bars as we will be there with our kids so will not be hangin' in the Key West bars--we'll save that for the ship).

Anyway...just a head's up for everyone.
thanks for the heads up! We plan on being back on the ship in time to watch the sunset from the ship. Hopfully the big partying will begin at sunset?? Then again, knowing the keys, it could begin at noon!

Is anyone else planning on skipping dinner in the dinning room that night to catch the sunset? We have 2nd seating & the scheduled sunset is at 8:15ish..right when the 2nd dinning begins. Do you think we could just show up 10 min late for dinner or just grab something from the buffet? I hate to miss a dinner, but we have done them before and never seen that amazing Keys sunset!

:woohoo::woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:

We are getting so excited, the cruise is coming up. We have gone thru all of our plans for the cruise, and actually have cancelled our excursions for Key West and Nassau (we thought we should enjoy the ship as much as possible since this is our first time cruising).

Has anyone else done this? And just hung out on board or only gotten off for an hour or two at each port?

We just want to make sure we don't get bored. We are still planning on walking to the Southernmost point in Key West (must have that photo op), but otherwise...

We've never done any excursions before, and at Nassau we have just got off the ship for an hour to take some photos, it's lovely to chill onboard when everyone else has got off :)

We're going to walk down to the Southernmost Point too :thumbsup2

Well, I only have one excursion and is on Nassau... In the other islands I plan to walk a little with my daughters and then enjoy the cruise:goodvibes

I like the sound of your plans, nice and relaxing :thumbsup2

I think we may arrive a little late for dinner too, as the sound of the Keys sunset is too good to miss ::yes::

We closed the FE on 5/7/10 at 12 people so you can go ahead and make your gifts. I am still waiting on 3 members to give me their cabin numbers to finish the map :goodvibes

I'm sorry - meaning 12 families? Do we give each family or each person a gift? Or is it our own choice what to do?

We plan on going to all the tastings! We did the wine tasting on our last 2 cruises, but the others sound like more fun!

This is my first cruise, so I don't understand what is this tasting... Can you explain me?? I'm going with my two daughters, so I guess I'm going to be alone must of the time.

Is anyone going to decorate their doors... I'm making my magnets, (and loving them LOL) Well I just wanted to know if I'm going to be the only one...:confused3

Can't wait!!! We are planning on decorating our doors, we have some magnets left that we made last year and are making even more. We are planning a "team meeting" on Saturday after my GRADUATION!!!! lol to discuss magnets.:banana::banana::banana:

Since this is my first cruise ever:banana: I don't know a lot about magnets. I've been looking at all the threads that talk about it and seen some pictures. I hope I'm making them the right way:confused:

It's really up to you, you can give per person or per stateroom ::yes::

We will have a couple of magnets on our door, so you won't be the only one :)

Hi!!! This is my first trip so I'm new in a lot of stuff... How can you upgrade a room??

Welcome CastwayJP. We think we have everything needed for the cruise working on a list . Will be working on door signs next.

Nobody knows how to get an upgrade it just happens! It seems to happen more often if your reservation is in GTY status... We have gotten upgrades before (12 to 11 & 12 to 10) but this one is a big jump from an inside stateroom to a porthole room...

I have heard of people asking for upgrades at the port, but in that case I think you have to pay for it...

We are decorating our doors. It is a little bit of work but it really makes it fun to walk down that hallway and see your door all decorated. Makes it so easy to find your room without reading numbers.

Cant wait to start on making more magnets for our doors, Getting together with family Saturday to make the selectioin and get to work on them. It won't be long now It's just around the corner and we will all be cruising. :cool1::cool1::cool1::cool1::cheer2::cheer2:

Trying to think through the outfits for dinner, all the planning to avoid overpacking but remembering all essentials.
