June 27, 2007 10 Night - The Rodney Dangerfield of Med Cruises

RJAYL,

Did you book your airfare thru Disney? We are thinking of flying in a few days early and spending a couple of days in Barcelona but I don't seem to be able to find airfare any cheaper than what Disney is providing. I don't know if Disney would fly us in early but I guess I need to contact them about it.

Shouldn't we be seeing the cruise information packages coming out soon? It's less than 5 months away now......

No I booked airfare through AMEX burned a ton of points flying into Paris Nonstop over a week before cruise doing DLP & Paris booked EasyJet myself Paris ORY to Barcelona a couple of days early, Then flying home with 1 stop the day the ship gets into port. No direct flights from Barcelona to Boston!:sad1:

I think I've finally figured mine out. I think we'll fly Nashville to Paris (CDG), arriving Monday and taking a shuttle up to the Orly area. Spend Monday night in Paris, get somewhat acclamated to the time change, and fly from Paris to Barcelona on Tuesday morning, arrive rested and ready to do a bit of sightseeing before the Wednesday cruise. Then back to Paris for a couple of days at DL after the cruise.

Puts the burden on the front end of the trip, but its the most economical plan I've found and we get the real travel problems out of the way BEFORE the cruise.

Main reason I'm leaning this direction, is that it seems the flights between Barcelona and CDG just aren't available at good times, and a three way flight from Nashville to Barcelona to Paris is simply outrageous.

Flights out of Barcelona: This is why I went with Air France they have 2 flights out of Barcelona on the 7th 1 @ 12:55 & 1 @ 3:45 & I will connect in Paris ! Other Air Lines have good flight times as well British Airways, Iberia, and I am not sure about EasyJet! I went with Air France for the Non-Stop to Paris & the Connecting flight through Paris to Boston it was the simplest & fastest way home, though British Air would have gotten me into Boston a little earlier, I wouldnt have gotten the non-stop to Paris!

:teacher: Private Excursions: Okay here is the dope most of these private excursions run 550 for 6, 650 Euros for 8 passangers! multiply that X's 1.3 for dollar conversion then add in your tour guide costs, tips, admissions, lunch. get the picture it is not any cheaper.

I am still planning on doing this in Rome with the hopes of keeping the tour & hassle time down. The Vatican Museum is to much for my younger children, however I would still like to see the Sistine Chapel & so on!

Naples is still up for debate,as I would like to do Vesuvius & Pompei & a nice lunch leaving my 2 youngest on the Ship that would be 4 of us. If anyone is interested let me know as we could get transportaion for 6 or 8.

Good Morning all you Slackers!:goodvibes

Bumping this thread along, & mentioning that I have booked a tour guide for Rome for the autonomy, Hope this works out!;)

Oh also this thread needed a bump!

"What this town needs... is an enema!" ('Joker', from Batman...) :scared:

RJAYL, I've been involved in a major project this week. Now I can start looking at those things. I'll look back through the thread. Did you post exactly where you're going? (in Rome, I mean...)

Well, we did it!!! The cruise is paid for, the flights are paid for, even some of the pre and post hotel stays are paid for!!!!! We're going to Europe this summer!!!!!!!! I am so excited!!!!!!

Now I just have to figure out what we're doing while there! Has anyone figured out what excursions they're going on?

Rome is one of the ports (the other being Pisa) where I will be taking my children (all of them) on the excursion! So this is cost effective for me, I have been to Rome a couple of times So I want to do Rome Light (Less Filling Tastes Great) :rotfl: The Sistine Chapel (not the whole Vatican Museum) The Coleseum, Pantheon, Trevi Fountain & other assorted sites hopefully less then 11 hours 8 would be fine unless our tour guide brought us to some new extra special place! Room for 2 more if any interest let me know.

Naples the older ones want to see Vesuvius & Pompei, I think I will be booking a guide for that with room for 4 more if anynone is interested?

Pisa I have e-mailed the guide but have received no response! I think I will book with Disney for that one 1/2 day to Pisa!

Wow it is Cold outside!:scared1:

Will be at WDW in 1 WEEK:thumbsup2 :cool1:

RJAYL,

Who did you decide to go through for the Rome tour? We want to do Rome lite as well but we have 4 peeps in our group. I haven't been to Rome but we know there is only so much we can do in one day and I think 8-9 hours will be our max....

Hello Everyone:

We are on this cruise with you. Our family consists of myself, DH, DD11 (birthday on cruise), DD8 (almost 9), and DD6 at time of cruising. We plan to arrive on June 26. Will spend two days in London after the cruise as well as two days in Disneyland Paris. Looking forward to meeting everyone.

Take care.

We are here ... JUST booked London to Barcelona.... staying three nights in Barcelona prior to cruise.... haven't booked hotel... apparently a mistake since much is already booked! Disney says they are completely booked and cannot accomodate us in Barcelona!

We do London on both ends.... we love London!

Just my husband and I so we probably won't be booking too many tours.. Been there, done that in Italy. Would however like a wine tasting tour in Florence, though. I think Disney is offering one that is reasonable.

Hi Julie:

Where do you stay in London? We haven't been there before and would like to stay somewhere near Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, the London Eye, etc. Any suggestions?

Thank you,
Sandra

We're going to London for three days before the cruise too!

I'll have to look up where we're staying. London is pretty easy to get around with the tube. I'm so excited to be taking the kids there. We got our "paid in full" packet today. I can't believe we're actually going!!!!!

What are you all going to do in London? I've been there several times myself, but not with the family. We're going to stand in line and hopefully get tickets to the first day of Wimbledon. We're tennis geeks in this family. I also want to do the London eye, changing of the guard, Hyde Park... I just want the kids to really enjoy it.

I'm so excited!!!!!!!

Karen,

I looked at the tours website. I like the idea that it seems to be more English speaking, I tend to have a very hard time with accents since I'm hearing deficient. One concern is how knowledgable are they and if they are local. Also, I wonder if they pick you up at the terminal and how much it would run for that as well.

I've emailed a couple of places. Romecabs (thanks RJAYL), while not the cheapest, seemed to be pretty good. Would have to scale back on their plans as we're looking for a 8 to 9 hour tour rather than 10 to 10.5.
