June 27, 2007 10 Night - The Rodney Dangerfield of Med Cruises

You remember that list I posted that a travel agent friend of mine did? He did a Med cruise last spring and put together a pretty inclusive list of private tours, whether they were good or not, etc. It may be on Cheri's website. If not, I'm sure I've got it here somewhere.

It's called "Med Cruise Review" and it's down by the Port Information.

BBM: Cannes and Monaco are close. The public beach I went to in Monte Carlo was the rockiest beach I'd ever seen. Remember that to get into the Grand Casino, you must be properly attired - (unless things have changed). And, no the plaid suit doesn't cut it.

see, told you I'd be lurking.

Was that the nude beach you told me about Cheri?

As for the casino, I just want to see the outside. Could care less about getting dressed for the inside!

Rayjay, would love to hook up with you and see what you are considering. I told you how many, and ages, right? You still insist I'm in Newton, so just double checking.

OK, am I the only one here who woud love to go to one of the clothing optional beaches? Hmmmm? Fess up?:rotfl:

Being fresh off my 3rd place finish in the national Don Knotts look-a-like contest, I'd LOVE to celebrate at one of 'em. I'll even bring my bullet!

Been their done that! Orient Beach StMaarten! Your Son should enjoy it!:laughing:My Son didnt notice last winter I wonder about this year?

On the other hand I have been looking at the Beach excursions for Sardinia, one is relatively inexpensive the other is like $160 per person! Then they have a boat beach excursion. Definitely going to the Beach, as I do not believe that there is anything else worth seeing or doing on Sardinia :cool1:

The French beaches are topless and usually Speedo-filled. :sad2: Keep in mind that the ratio of beautiful topless bods to wrinkly-should--be-wearing-looooong-tops bods is 1 to 20. Kind of like St. Maarten :rotfl2: The kids should love it. :lmao:

RJAYL: I said it was a "peashooter"! (shhh)

*waves hand*

I didn't disappear and would LOOOOve to find someone else to do a private tour in Rome. Not lookig forward to the lengthy day ones that might end up on the excursion list. We are two adults, a 16yo boy and a preteen girl.

Okay I am so far behind on reading this that I may just give up and jump in here. We would definately be interested in a private tour. Has anyone thought about this more. It would be 5 of us. Me, Husband, mys ister , DD15 and DS 12.

Well, I don't know what we're going to do. The whole day in Rome with Disney would cost our family of 5 over a thousand dollars. DH and I have been there before, so I was thinking of taking the train in and doing it ourselves. Is anyone else thinking of this? DH really wants to do the trip in Naples where he and DS(13) can climb Mt. Vesuvious and go to Pompei. The other kids are too young for that, but I'd love to take them to Pompei. I haven't really thought much about the other ports. I was really hoping we could see the David and climb the Leaning Tower, but Disney doesn't have that combo. We've also been to these places before, but really want the kids to get the full experience, especially DS(13). Any other suggestions or recommendations. I just know we can do it without spending a ton of money.

Sheesh.. talk about the "no respect" cruise!

I have to admit I haven't read up on the excursions yet. I'm wondering how much walking there is on the Pompeii tour? I'm thinking I'd like to make it, but I doubt my wife (who has some knee problems) would. Anybody know?

And just what is the address of Disney's offered excursions?

Tell me about it we are a party of 6!:headache:

Depends on how many of your children you will be taking I would rather get a van with a driver for 1/2 a day

Hey my son wants to do that too, he is 14 he can go with you!:)

Disney does have a Florence & Pisa combo but it is a 10 to 11 hour tour, with all your kids!:scared1:

Pick a few key spots you cannot see everything in a day!:teacher:

I just printed off all the excursions from the Dreams Unlimited site. I'd really like to do that evening Grand Casino trip in Monaco. I would assume that since they are advertising it, we WILL be in port long enough. Anybody know what time we have to be back on board in Villefranche?

Having been to Pompei some many years ago, the memory is foggy but what I do remember is this: there are cobblestone streets and there are lots of them! We took our 18 month old at the time in an umbrella stroller and ended up ditching it in a garbage container there before we left as the stone streets tore it up. We were there for several hours and didn't see all of Pompei, remember this is an ancient CITY, so it's pretty big. I don't know what the tour will consist of but there are some not to be missed sights there: the coliseum (nowhere near as big as the famous one but still impressive), the soldiers quarters, the house with preserved bodies (I think they're molds of the original figures but it's interesting how small people were back then, and finally there is a house there with color mosaics still intact. That's what I can remember from our trip 15 years ago.

I will try to find out what I can about getting a tour company to Rome, if anyone else is looking as well, I would be interested in the major spots (Vatican, Trevi Fountain, St. Peter's Basilica, and maybe the coliseum if there's time). My main interest is bypassing the lines as some seem to say they can do. With so little time in port, I don't want to waste it in lines.....

Golfinwidow, we seem to have the same age children, except my 16 yo is a girl as is my pre-teen twelve yo.

Pardon the interruption:

Hey Ray: did you get your call for Mexico yet?

You may now return to your regular planning sessions. (Someone please post pix of Pompeii!)

Cheri, you goin' to Mexico without me?

Micluvr, I am quite sure my 16 year old boy would love to hang around with your 16 year old girl. O.o Can I tell you what tipped him off to which cruise to pick? (this one or end of July) The number of teen girls on this ship compared to then. How sad is that? Well, okay, that and he goes to a diocese summer camp. Does that redeem himself just a wee bit?

Rayjay, can't figure out how to PM you to save my life. Would love to talk with you further. Will be nice shareing a bus with someone else that can't say their R's and wont' be looked at funny. Wait, you look at me funny anyways.

Cheri, i"m a huge photo addict and will take not one or two of Pompeii, but might reach a thousand. I'll make you sick of it, okay?

Wait, did I miss something and you're not coming?

Okay

Did I mention that I already have a private tour scheduled for Barcelona the day before the cruise.:wizard:

I have done a first edit of DCL Excursions cut the list in half!:headache:

I have 2 e-mails for private guides 1 for Naples & 1 for Rome!

I am going to take 1 of the 2 DCL Pisa tours though I might check out a private tour for Pisa as well!

Thats my Status report for today!:teacher:

How about that I am traveling with 4 childen DS14, DD12, DD6, DD3 and that the 2 youngest will be having Birthdays on the cruise!:wizard: Presents gladly excepted!:rotfl:
