June 25, 2012 - WONDERful 7 night Alaskan cruise

Sailed by at about 10:45. Got some good pics of the Wonder that I will post when I get the chance, probably next month. Can't do so from at sea. Hope you guys had fun, did anyone see the ship as we sailed past?

We saw the ship!! I don't know if my dad or brother got pictures or not.. we're still sorting through 5 cameras worth of photos!!

It was great to meet some folks so that there were some friendly faces around the ship as the week progressed! It was our first Disney cruise, and I think everyone would gladly do it again, given the finances!! :-) Even my brother, a loyal RCCL cruiser who fought me on the Disney all the way, apologized for being such a weenie cause he had a GREAT TIME!!! :lmao:

Good to hear. Look forward to your TR. In case you were wondering, the ship was the USS John C Stennis (CVN-74).

I looked but you must have already gone by. We were still waiting in the port at 10:45. Can't wait to see your pictures!

We had a great time on the cruise. It was nice to meet everyone. I hope everyone has a safe trip home. We are doing one more day in Seattle before taking off. I'm not sure we could have made the trip home today without some major meltdowns. It was very hard getting the little one off the ship today.

Shay, it was hard to get ours off the ship too, and they are 21 and 17!!

LOVED meeting all of you, and sorry if I didn't remember everyone's names - I am really bad with that!

We are still in St. Louis, staying a couple of nights there before driving back home tomorrow. DS is visiting with some friends, and the rest of us are sleeping!

We flew back with Shelly, Lance and Kiley (DCLShel), who has a new granddaughter! Congrats, Shelly! We enjoyed getting to know you and flying out and back with you! (By the way, did you see the drunk guy that got hauled off our second flight from Las Vegas? He was sitting right behind us, and we were glad he got taken off!)

Hope everyone had a great time - we sure did! Hope to see you all again someday!

Welllll.. I'm not usually one to write TRs... I mostly just put up pics and leave it at that.. plus, 10 days away from work means I've got a lot of days to catch up on.. People will finally get a day off now that I'm back home.. lol.. But I did find at least one picture or two..

And now, I need a vacation from the vacation! :goodvibes

Deb In IA: My DW mentioned you guys did book the Med for next year? I believe when I had spoken with you folks you were going early July? Is that when you booked?
I did re-book us for the 25 July 2013 12 night. I scaled back from the 2 connecting rooms, to 1 SPH. It knocked over $4k from the price. I'm not convinced that we'll sail, but figure I can easily cancel, or move later if it's not going to work out.

After having done the Alaskan from Vancouver last year w/ my parents & younger brother, I really was disappointed with the port times on this cruise, in Juneau, Ketchikan, and Victoria (although we did not stop in Victoria last year). We made a comment about it on our comment card. The port times were to short. (and way to early in the morning). Did anyone else feel this way?

Yes, I mentioned the short port times on our comment card, too. We had a fabulous vacation, but would have appreciated a slower pace in the ports. Plus,3mornings in a row I had to get up much earlier than I do for work- no fun! Only for a Disney Cruise!;)

If you zoom in far enough and it doesn't blur out, I am in that picture. Or I should be. Below the 74 is a large opening with a boat called a RHIB in it. I am in the opening, called a sponson, just aft of the RHIB. I was there taking pics of the Wonder as we sailed past.

Now since I am currently enjoying a port visit to San Diego, I am headed to DL via MWR. Glad to hear you guys enjoyed your trip for the most part.

I agree that the port times were too short. We talked to Jimmy the cruise director and he said that is one of the problems with the Seattle port. To make it to each of the ports and fit in a Canadian one, all the times had to be cut back. We didn't go out early in Ketchikan so we just fit our excursion in, barely. It was 90 minutes and left at 11.

We had such an awesome time, but also mentioned the port times. Two of us never left the ship in Victoria, but we've been before, so it wasn't a big deal.

Slowly driving back to Jersey - I'll definitely need a week to recover!

We are booked for the 12 night Med with Greece and Turkey on June 15. Were you originally on that one? I think Glen and Barbara (htmlkid) are going on that one.

It would be great if we were all on that one too!

Oh, yeah, port times were less than ideal.

You should have seen the looks on our kid's faces when we told them - "We have to be at WaveBands at 7:15 am for our excursion.":scared1:

They actually slept through some parts of the excursions - DD on the White Pass Railroad, and DS on the Whale Quest.

I agree - the port times, especially at Victoria and Ketchican were way too short.

I just re-booked what we had already booked, although I did reduce us from 2 cabins to 1. Unfortunately, 15th June does not fit my work schedule. I suspect that we will end up cancelling this (25th July), or moving it later. I also booked another cruise out of Galvston for over Easter 2013, but suspect we will be moving this one as well. The cruise out of Galveston don't stop at Castaway Cay, and I was reminded by the other members of the family, that if we're cruising anywhere in the Caribbean, we need to have a stop at the Island. :rotfl2:

We did not re-book on board since we already have a cruise planned at the end of the year. Though we did price out quite a few. I really wanted to put down for next Thanksgiving on the Fantasy. DH wants to wait until our next cruise. I kept the paper to show how much it goes up between the Alaska cruise and the New Year's cruise.

Hi gang,

I don't know how to get a hold of everybody, but I just read over on the Community Board that one of our FE'ers from this cruise has passed away.

Donna's (joyjanet) DH Gary passed away from complications of surgery.

I just found the thread today, but in case you missed it like me, here it is:

Just another bump about joyjanet's DH - in case anyone still reads this.
