Its been almost 2 weeks and Im just getting around to my trip report.

Theres been a lot going on, work stress, local LA issues and more and this year had a very different feel. Being mindful of the rules here on Disboards, all I will say is I choose to travel to support local and I choose very carefully where I spend my tourist money. I am very aware of my personal safety and do a lot fact checking and research. People who know me in real life, who know my style of travel and why I choose to visit areas, locations, countries, and know that I do not let others opinions influence my choices.

If anyone wants to know more about my thoughts, I posted in the Canadian section in the thread for Canadians Travelling To USA in 2025, as thats a place where Corey is allowing Canadians to have a space about to talk about things. Corey has stated that Americans are not allowed to post in that thread and he will check in every so often, so please be mindful of the rules if you go to that thread.

Anyways, back to my itinerary.

Part 1 Glendale, Los Angeles

Saturday 21 June Travel Day

I was on my usual direct flight from Dublin to LAX but unfortunately I left it too late to book the airline lounge. When I go to the airport I decided not to get food in the main concourse and to see if there was any on the day availability in the lounge.

At Dublin airport we have US Preclearance, which means we do passport check before getting on the plane and then arrive in USA as a domestic passenger. The airline lounge is after US Preclearance, so after a quick look at the shops in the main concourse I just went straight to the second security area. Unfortunately there was no on the day availability in the lounge so I went to a new to me restaurant, an independent called Whiskey Bread Kitchen. Usually there are big queues as its the main food place but today I got lucky and there was just one family ahead of me.

The lead up to this holiday had been a more stressful than other years, so by the time I got through passport check I just needed some time to relax a bit before the flight. I had an espresso martini and a grilled chicken sandwich and just read my book for a while before the flight.

whiskey bread kitchen.png

The flight was uneventful, I got my preferred seat, a window at the end of a section and watched a few movies and tv shows. The food was the same as previous years, but new this year was the choice of complimentary white wine, red wine or beer during the main dinner service. I choose red wine and the chicken pasta option.

Landing at LAX was a bit of an adventure. The gate area we land at is the West Gate new building of Tom Bradley International Terminal. The building is actually across the tarmac from the main terminal building and is accessed through underground walkways. It takes about 20 minutes to walk from the gate area all the way through to the main concourse and then down to arrivals and bag reclaim.

lax.jpg

As I was walking I connected to the free airport WiFi and sent a WhatsAPP text message to Mdwilshuttle to let them know my flight had landed and I was on the bag to bag reclaim.

By the time I got to bag reclaim, bags were already coming through and I got my bag and walked out to the pick up area. I sent Midwilshuttle another WhatsAPP text message and they sent me back the drivers name and make of car.

After about an hour, LAX traffic :( I was finally checking in to my hotel in Glendale, Holiday Inn and Suites.

This is the second time I have stayed at this hotel and I love it. Its a new build hotel and the staff are always very helpful and nice.

I had the same configuration of room as last year, so I didnt take any photos. Even though I was a mess after 15 hours travel I needed to eat. I knew that if I refreshed or had a shower I wouldnt feel like doing anything else, so I just put my bags into the room and went straight back out for food. I had checked the map before my flight and I saw there was a Little Caesars Pizza across the street so I went there. I just got a veggie pizza, but it was huge, as they only do one size.

Back in the room I finally had a shower , ate half the pizza and went to sleep.

Sunday 22 June, Monday 23 June, Tuesday 24 June , Wednesday 25 June

Im not going to do an in depth of these days, as I was mainly relaxing, chilling with friends and shopping.

In the mornings I had the included basic breakfast. Its a Holiday Inn, so nothing fancy but its fine for me. After breakfast I would chill by the pool and have a swim and then get ready for the day. The last few months have been stressful so my body just needed some down time.

chilling by the pool.png

The one tourist thing I did was do the guide tour of The Gamble House in Pasadena.
This is the summer house of The Gamble Family, the founders of Proctor and Gamble , which was built in 1907.

The Gable House.png

I went shopping at Glendale Galleria and Americana at Brand, my new favorite shopping area. Its very similar to The Grove in Hollywood but less touristy.

It was really nice to catch up with my friends and just recharge my Vitamin D.

Part 2 Anaheim
Thursday 26 Transfer to Anaheim, half day DCA

Check out at Glendale Holiday Inn was at 11am.

I had originally planned to take the bus from Glendale. It fairly straightforward, Metro Bus 90 from South Glendale Avenue to Pershing Square in Downtown LA, then change to the Metro Bus 460 to Disneyland.
That bus journey would take about 3 hours which I didn't mind and only cost about $5.

However at the start of June there were some local issue which I'm sure everyone is aware of in LA, and as luck would have it, the exact square mile where the issues were, was where my busses would connect. I checked METRO website and they had all the bus routes on diversions, but it was just a bit too volatile for my liking.

As a result, I booked Midwilshuttle to transfer from Glendale to Anaheim. On the plus side, the journey time was safer and far shorter and I got to Anaheim earlier than I had originally planned. However it cost me $100 , which was an unexpected extra cost.

When I got to Anaheim, it was before the 3pm check in time for Desert Inn and Suites, so I had to put my bags into the luggage store.

Then finally it was time for Disneyland :)

I had a 3 day 1 park ticket so today for my transfer day I had a reservation for California Adventures Park.

I used my Disney Cruise Magic Band and had everything connected and synced up so I just tapped my Magic Band at the new gate scanner. As it was my first day, the system recognized I needed to have my photo taken , so that appeared on the screen and then I was good to go.

It was almost 12.30pm and I was hot so I first went to Ghirardello's in San Fransokyo Square and got a Frozen Vanilla Caramel Latte.

Frozen Vanilla Caramel Latte.png

I sat down in the shade and opened the Disneyland App to plan the rest of the day.

For me DCA is a half day park, so I just wanted a more leisurely day, not rushing from ride to ride.

I booked Monster Inc Lightening Lane and saw that I had enough time before my window opened to slow walk over to Hollywood Land and get some food.

As I was walking I mobile ordered Asada Fries from Award Wierners quick service in Hollywood Land. When my food was ready, I sat in shade in the seating area behind Award Wierners.

As I was eating, I was on the App and noticed that Monsters Inc was down, so I decided after my food to go to Mickey's PhilharMagic show as I was right beside it.

After the show I decided to have a look through the shops and make my way back to Desert Inn and Suites as it was nearing 3pm.

I got lucky with my room this year, at the front of the hotel, which means a short walk back at night time after being in the parks. :)

This year I had decided to do afternoon breaks, which I have never done before. So I had a short nap, and refreshed.

Then it was back over to Disney but this time not into the parks. I had a reservation at Din Tai Fung, a new to me restaurant. It opened in 2024 and even though its a chain with many locations, the Downtown Disney location is very busy. I had Chicken and Mushroom Bao Buns, Chicken Fried Noodles and Pear Lychee Martini.

downtown disney din tai fung.png

After my food I took a walk through Downtown Disney and into Grand California Hotel and then back into DCA.

As I came around by Little Mermaid ride I saw that the standby line was over 30 minutes. I checked the App and my Monsters Inc Lightning Lane from earlier had turned into an Any Time Experience, so I used it on Little Mermaid and got straight onto the ride.

Then I went over to Carsland and down to Radiator Springs. Again the standby line was really long, over 60 minutes, so I used the single rider line and only had a 10 minute wait.

Next over to Avengers Campus and yep, you are right single rider for Web Slingers. This was a big longer, 20 minutes, but still far shorter than standby.

By now I was starting to get tired. I wanted to be up early for rope drop, so after another look around the shops I was leaving the park just before 8pm.

Friday 27 June Disneyland Main Park
Today was an early start. I was up and on the move by 7.00am. First stop was the grab and go breakfast at Desert Inn and Suites where I just got some pastries. Then down the street to Tropicana Hotel for coffee. There is a self service coffee machine for lattes and cappuccinos at the back of the shop. The large coffee, which would be Starbucks Grande size costs only $2.50, which is amazing.

Then coffee in hand it was finally across the street and Disney security bag check. By the time I got to the Esplanade the gates were open and people were scanning in.

My plan this morning was to check The Emporium for the interactive Disney 70 Key. So as it was only 7.30am I found a bench at the top of Main Street and had my coffee and pastries. It was so nice just to sit and people watch, and enjoy the early morning atmosphere.

bench.png

I was sitting near the photo op area, so when I had finished my coffee, I decided to get a photo. As I had the Lightening Lane add on, all the photopass photos are included.

After the photo it was just 8am and the shops opened. I went over to The Emporium and asked a CM and I was told that unfortunately the Interactive Keys were all sold out and would not be back in stock until July, for the official birthday date.

So now as the park was officially open, I went straight to Fantasyland and Peter Pan. The line was a bit longer than I liked but I decided as I was fresh and it was early and not too hot I would just stick with it. In the end it was 30 minutes, not too bad.

Then I went to Alice In Wonderland, Mad Tea Cups , Storybook Land Canal Boats and then the carousel. As it was early the wait times for everything was really low.

The carousel was a walk on, so I decide to try to get on Jingles. For those who don't know, Jingles is one of the original horses who is the lead horse of the carousel. She has different decorations than the other horses and in 2008 she was dedicated to Julie Andrews. As I waited for the carousel to stop I found Jingles and watched where she would stop. When we were allowed on I went straight to Jingles but someone else was already on her. I asked the castmember were people allowed to stay on for a second rotation. He smiled and said do you want to ride Jingles. I said yes, so he told me to sit in the carriage for this rotation and then get on Jingles when the carousel stopped and the person got off. So thats what I did.

After my ride on Jingles I went to Snow White. By now it was 10am and I was getting a bit hungry. So after leaving Snow White ride I did a mobile order for Red Rose Taverne, which was ready by the time I walked there.

Bonjour Breakfast
Scrambled Eggs served with Taverne Potato Bites, Bacon and Sausage and a fountain cola

I stayed for a while and checked out the App as I wasnt in a rush.

Refreshed, next up was Galaxys Edge. Millennium Falcon had a low wait time, 15 minutes so I did standby. The line was empty in front of me so I walked slow and took some photos along the way. I still didnt get pilot though, it really depends on the party in front of you in the line. You need to be the first or second person the CM pulls from the line.

By now the sun was out and it was getting hot , so I spent some time in Black Spire shops. I really love the whole theming of Galaxys Edge and I would love to buy so much but having very limited space in my carry on due to the airline restrictions, I have to be very selective with what I buy.

I walked from Galaxys Edge into New Orleans Square and as I walked I checked the App. Pirates had a lightening lane time opening up soon so I booked it. By the time I got to the ride the window had opened so I scanned my magic band and went on Pirates. The standby line seemed long to me, so that was a nope. After Pirates I had a look around the shops. They changed things since 2024. Madame Leotas is a new Haunted Mansion shop. The Pirates shop is still the same, but the section where Haunted Mansion merch used to be is now a bar.

I had a Fantasmic Dining Package Reservation at Rancho del Zocalo for 2pm, so I made my way from New Orleans Square over to the restaurant.
fantasmic menu.png

I found a table at the back of the restaurant which shares a fence with Big Thunder Mountain so I had a great view of the carriages on the last bend as the came back into the station.

My Instagram.png

Potato Tacos with Radish Slaw
Rice,
Corn Esquite,
Refried Beans,
Cortadillo Cake,
Fountain Cola
Cold Brew Café De Olla Coffee which I paid extra for. I wanted to taste the coffee as I had never had it but it was a one and done for me. The cold brew coffee has Horchata Cream and Flan Custard. Its a spiced cinnamon flavour which I found too overpowering.

After my lunch I made my way back to Main Street and walked through the shops to get some things. I had decided this year I would take an afternoon break at my hotel, which is something I have never done. I took a nap and freshed and was heading back to the park by 5.00pm.

The security lines were much longer now than in the morning, which was new to me, but I was soon back on Main Street. I had booked Indiana Jones Lightning Lane earlier so I made my way to Adventureland.

While I loved Indiana Jones ride, I find that as a solo, the cms always seem to put me in the back row of a vehicle. And yes thats where I was put. Its all so frantic in the ride loading area and I should have asked for a different row. The last row is way to bumpy for me and I didnt really enjoy the ride this time.

After being shaken about in Indiana Jones, I looked at the time and it was about 6.30pm so I went to Stage Door Cafe for some food to eat at Fanatsmic. I decided to retry the Strawberry Funnel Cake. They dont have to go boxes at Stage Door Cafe, so I went into The Golden Horse Shoe and asked for a to go box. I sat at a table and transfered the funnel cake into the to go box for later.
funnel cake.png

Then I made my way over to the Fantasmic Dining Package viewing area.

I knew I was early but that was my plan as I wanted to be at the railings in the viewing area.

The 3 viewing areas line up in the same area near Harbour Galley.

The Rancho del Zocalo people line up at the Harbour Gally fence beside these guys, the nesting pelicans.

My Instagram.png

Cafe Orleans people line up in the middle of the walkway and Riverbelle people line up at the redbrick wall.

I was there approx 7pm just as the Fanstmic cms were starting to gather. This is the process
The cms will start arriving and hanging about
The lead will arrive and brief the cms
They stop people walking through
They mark out the ground with tape, diving the walking into the 3 viewing areas
They put poles into the ground and set up the rope barriers

The cms are very reluctant to tell people about the pre line up lines. But if you know where the pre line for your viewing section will be, and just stand there, the cms dont move you on.

Once they have everything set up they then organize the pre line up line. As I was already standing in the correct place, I was the first person in the Rancho del Zocalo line. There were also people standing at the red wall and they were the first people in the Riverbelle line.

The pre line up lines gather fast, as many people just hang about the area.

Then at about 7.45pm they started walking each line in turn to the viewing areas.

They start with Riverbelle, the Cafe Orleans and then Rancho del Zocalo. This is when you need the Fantasmic ticket you were given at your restaurant.
Fantasmic ticket.png

By 8.00pm the viewing areas were crowded. I bring a blanket and I place it right next to the tape dividing the Cafe Orleans section from Rancho del Zocalo at the railings. So the people beside me paid double what I did for exactly the same experience.

Once I was settled I had my funnel cake. I didnt eat it all but it was nice. I dont think I would order it again though.

After Fantasmic I stayed to watch the fireworks which is so cool with the Fantasmic fountains as a back drop for the animations.

Its such a mad chaotic exit after the fireworks, with everyone trying to leave the viewing areas and the standby people for the 2nd Fantsmic show trying to get a spot and so many people just trying to walk through the general area.

I wanted to try to get across to to Tomorrowland but as I got to Jolly Holiday Bakery, Paint The Night Parade was about to start and there were just too many people all around.

I decided to slow walk through the shops and head back to my hotel.

Tomorrow would be another early morning for another rope drop.

Your trip sounded fun! I am jealous of the In and Out burger! We have one opening soon, if not already, down south of Seattle...
I am glad you had good weather when you came to Seattle, June is sometimes an iffy month for rain. Hope it was a good visit!

Thanks. The weather was lovely in Seattle, I'll do a proper update in a few days :)

So glad you had a good trip!

Treat yourself to a movie night and watch "Back to the Future" -- you'll see the Gamble House as the exterior of Doc Brown's house. :)

And it's no wonder that you like The Americana because it has a Disney connection. The trolley cars were designed by a retired Imagineer, George McGinnis.

Yes they did mention this on the tour. In Europe we have stately homes and Ive visited a lot in different countries. It was really interesting seeing something similar in America. The Gamble House is constructed from wood which is not usual in Ireland and UK. Also it was built before modern AC, so it was fun to see how they incorporated air cooling into the design of the house. I love how the bedrooms have shaded patio areas which the family used for entertaining during the day and even sometimes slept outside. It did amuse me though, that the tour guide was so proud of the fact that everything is over 100 years old. My grandmothers house, the house my mum grew up in was built around 1815 :)

oh wow, I didnt know that. I did take a one way ride on the trolly car. I found a seat in a shaded area by the fountains and sat with my book and a coffee for ages. The fountains have a scheduled mini music show every 30 minutes. The area was full of locals shopping and enjoying the area.
