June 2010: A Tribute To All Nations, But Mostly America - Update 8/22 MK FotD

Today I thought I'd share which snacks in the park we plan to not miss. If you'd been losing weight since your last trip, snacks would be a priority for you, too! :lmao:

MouseEarsJenny:

-Frozen Chai at Royal Anandpur Tea Company
-Banana Split Dessert at Starring Rolls
-Mickey Ice Cream Bar

Flightless Duck:

-Mickey Ice Cream Bar
-Root Beer (or Coke) Float on Main Street
-Frozen Chai at Royal Anandpur Tea Company

Kairi:

Can't think of anything at the moment. Where did this child come from?

Nick:

-Mickey Ice Cream Bar
-Cinnamon Roll from Starring Rolls

Frozen Chai at Royal Anandpur Tea Company? How have I not heard of this before?! Must...have...frozen chai!

Oh, and Rockin' Roller Coaster--you have to do it!

I was going to post something more interesting today, but me and Nick and Kairi have all come down with a horrible summer cold. On top of that, Scott borrowed my crocs to clear underbrush and stepped in poison ivy. When I picked up my shoes from where he left them in the middle of the floor, I must have gotten some oils on my arm, because now I've broken out. So I'm itchy, sore, stuffed up, and generally miserable. I'm posting my packing list in the hopes that I WON'T have to add prescription steroids (like my last poison ivy outbreak) or cold medication to the list.

Anyway, if anyone's reading out there, what did I forget? Clothes is a separate itemized list.

Toiletries Bag:
Advil
Allergy Meds
Brush
Comb
Hair Ties
Contacts/Solution
Nail Clippers
Razor/Shaving Cream
Scissors
Soap
Shampoo/Conditioner
Sunscreen
Aloe
Baby Powder
Anti-Itch
Hair Gel
Make-Up

Jenn and Scott’s Bag:
Batteries
Camera/Memory Cards
Cell Phone
Disney Binder
iPod
Kleenex
Notebook
Sunscreen
Sunglasses

Kairi and Nick’s Bag:
DSs/Chargers
Cell Phones/Chargers
iPod
Inhaler
DS Games

Mousecellaneous:
Hats
Laundry Detergent
Beach Towels (for OBX)
Kickboards (for OBX)
Chairs (for DC Parade and Concert)

Now I'm going to crawl back into bed.

I hope you feel better! The only thing I can think of to add, off the top of my head, would be some kind of stomach medicine. Often, when I eat at places where I am not cooking the food, I get indigestion. Rolaids or Pepto saves a whole lot of headache later on . Not sure if you would need this though!

I'm looking forward to reading about your trip! I've also never been on Space Mountain because my first trip to Disney I was 5, second trip we only went to DHS, and last year it was closed for refurbs. I cannot wait until we're there in October and I finally make it on there!

I also know what you mean about planning your snacks far in advance - my favorite part of planning our Disneymoon was figuring out our ADR's and snacks to find after 9 months of dieting to be in shape for the wedding!

:welcome:

I'm just afraid of the dark. :scared1: No, really. I can handle roller coasters, but I like to be able to plan ahead for drops and curves. Space Mountain and Rock 'n' Roller Coaster wig me out because I won't know I'm turning, dropping, or (for RnRC) flipping until I am, kwim?

But I'm trying to find my courage. Know I left it around here somewhere...

I'm planning to take pictures of all of our food this time, so hopefully I can give you some snack ideas.

Great idea for DH. I can't stand the taste of stomach medicines - they usually increase my feeling of nausea.

Thanks for the well wishes - I'm feeling better as long as I stay drugged up on Sudafed. Hopefully we'll all be better just in time to get out of here!

Thanks to one of my wonderful students, I have a new Disney book I have been eyeing for some time. It's called "The Hidden Magic of Walt Disney World". It's full of amusing anecdotes and secrets about the World. It should enhance my touring AND trip reporting. So far, I've been having tons of fun reading it.

Here's some of the things I didn't know:

-Did you know the popcorn carts are right next to the train station at MK so that as you walk through and see the "Coming Attractions" posters and smell the popcorn it feels like you're walking INTO a movie?

-Did you know there are no bathrooms in Liberty Square because real Colonial houses wouldn't have indoor plumbing? (Except the Florida-mandated bathrooms in Liberty Tree Tavern.) And get this... the river of brown gravel running down the pavement is supposed to simulate an open sewer. EWWW! Too much authenticity, thank you very much!

-This one I'm not sure I believe: Apparently, as you climb to the final drop on Splash Mountain, a gopher pops up and says "FSU!". I think this requires intensive personal research. It will be such a hardship to ride Splash multiple times, but I promise I will personally verify this for my readers if at all possible.

I rarely get end of year presents as a middle school teacher, but the Barnes and Noble gift card that let me pick up this book was great. Even better, the card that came with it said I was "the kind of teacher they make movies about".:lovestruc

I am going to miss this class so much. It may bring me closer to Disney, but the last day of school was definitely bittersweet.

Hi, I know you're going soon, but I'm joining in! :)

Congrats on the weight loss...how did you do that???? I need you to be my motivation coach or something because I just cannot get started, and I have less than 5 months til my trip now! :scared1:

I LOVE that Hidden Magic book, I got it last year before I went in November and read the whole thing...then forgot about things I wanted to look for! So I'm going to re-read it and try to write some stuff down that I want to notice!

Your snack list looks good, but I don't see popcorn:: on there anywhere! That's definitely my must do snack! :cool1:

I heard about the FSU thing before our last trip, and I believe people on the DIS have confirmed it. I did my best to listen out for it, but didn't hear anything.

:welcome: Hey, if we're going soon, that just brings the interesting part along faster, right?

Five months is lots of time! Most of the weight we lost came off in the first five months. I hate to say it, but basically, we ate less and exercised more. I didn't want to hear it either, but it's the only thing that works - less calories in, more calories out. :sad2:

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I'll forget most of it while I'm there, too. But it's fun to read anyway. You know, I've never tried Disney popcorn? Maybe I'll grab a bucket for the Main Street Electrical Parade. popcorn::

That's okay by me. If I don't hear it, I'll just have to ride again. And again. And again. ;)

To give you a bit more insight into the WHO on the trip, I thought I'd run down some of our family favorites. With pictures, cause this pre-trippie doesn't have enough!

I'll start with Scott (Flightless Duck):

Favorite Ride: Rock 'n' Roller Coaster
Favorite Show: Mickey's Philharmagic
Favorite Character: Donald Duck (But he'll tell you Jasmine if I'm not around, the perv. :lmao:)
Favorite TS Restaurant: Raglan Road
Favorite CS Restaurant: Wolfgang Puck's Express
Favorite Disney Memory: Being Magic Kingdom Family of the Day (Here's one of those pictures I promised...)

HPIM1953.jpg

Now for my favorites:

Favorite Ride: Pirates of the Caribbean
Favorite Show: Wishes (Curse you, Summer Nightastic!! :sad1:)
TripReport355.jpg

Favorite Character: Mickey
Favorite TS Restaurant: Chef Mickey's (for the characters more than the food)
Favorite CS Restaurant: Cosmic Ray's
Favorite Disney Memory: Riding the Train with Mickey Mouse (Also when we were family of the day.)

DD 13 Kairi's favorites:
Favorite Ride: Expedition Everest (But she's afraid of Splash Mountain. :confused3)
Favorite Show: Mickey's Philharmagic
Favorite Character: Tigger (She will never outgrow this, I am convinced.)
TripReport337.jpg

Favorite TS Restaurant: Chef Mickey's
Favorite CS Restaurant: Wolfgang Puck's Express (Home of the "big lettuce" in her words. She's a bit of a salad freak. And doesn't eat red meat. Mostly.)
Favorite Disney Memory: Watching the Fourth of July Fireworks from the balcony of the Contemporary after Chef Mickey's

DS 10 Nick's favorites:
Favorite Ride: Toy Story Mania
Favorite Show: Fantasmic! (Actually, this is more of an obsession than a favorite.)
Favorite Character: Steamboat Willie, but since he only appears at Disneyland, Nick grudgingly allowed that Sorcerer Mickey is his favorite at Disney World (it's a Fantasmic thing...)
TripReport535.jpg

Favorite TS Restaurant: Le Cellier (He likes MEAT.)
Favorite CS Restaurant: Cosmic Ray's
Favorite Disney Memory: The first time he saw Fantasmic! (Who's surprised? Really?)

So there's a Disney view of the players. By the way, we checked in online today, and we are in the SINGLE DIGITS until we leave!!!! (But 10 days until we get there, hence the ticker.)

What is your favorite thing to get at Cosmic Rays? I'm determined to try it on this trip.

I really like the bacon double cheese burger (with the toppings bar! Can't forget that!), but I am considering the chicken and ribs combo this time, for variety.

MouseEarsJenny ended up getting cheated out of her meal both times by switching her bacon double cheese burger with Nick's chicken nuggets (This was because, being on the dining plan, we could only get him food from the kid's menu. But he wanted the burger and Mom is a softy). But she loves the location and food choices and air conditioning.

Edit: And the CM's sang to her for her Birthday.

MEJ's sister said the chicken was awesome.

One thing we miss, though, is that in 2006 we saw a live brass band playing, but in 2009 they just had Sonny Eclipse.

Weather.jpg

I've been obsessively checking the Accuweather extended forecast since my Disney days started showing up on it about a week ago. There's a few reasons why this is silly:

Accuweather... isnt.

And surprise, surprise... they're calling for 90 degree weather with afternoon rain during our trip! Shock, awe. :lmao:

But that's okay. Now that all of our Disney days have shown up, I know we're getting closer. Single digit dance! party:

Now I have to start obsessively checking the weather in OBX and DC, too.

Do you do this? It's a week before vacation, and we've started to accumulate a pile on our dresser of things we'll need for our trip. Toothbrush holders, puzzle books, extra batteries, memory cards, guidebooks, sunglasses...

I'm running laundry and seriously contemplating starting to put all of our vacation clothes in a pile, too.

I also synched up my iPod for vacation today, too. Here's a selection of the contents:

-Disney's Greatest Volume 1 and 3
-Walt Disney World Band
-The Beach Boys Greatest Hits
-Patriotic Songs (from Tribute to Heroes, American Patriot, etc.)
-Gaelic Storm (Lots and Lots - Tree, What's the Rumpus, How Are We Getting Home?)
-U2 (Even more than Gaelic Storm - We loves them the U2. Had GA floor tickets for July 12 before Bono hurt himself. :sad1:)
-Beatles
-Barenaked Ladies (Stunt)
-Dave Matthews Band
-Moulin Rouge Soundtrack
-Across the Universe Soundtrack
-Queen (Greatest Hits)

and then big mountains of eclectic individual songs - anything from Bing Crosby to Alanis Morrissette to Lonestar to REM to Black Eyed Peas... etc, etc.

I WANT TO GO NOW!!!!

I usually don't pile up things before we go, but I always make about 20 different versions of my packing list to make sure I don't forget anything I need, and leave stuff I don't need at home so I have room in my bags for souvenirs!

Your playlist sounds great :thumbsup2

I found an online radio station that streams the music from the Disney parks and I've been addicted to listening to it at work.

We're going to be down there about the same time! We're going the 21-28th. Maybe we'll see you there! It's not long now!
