June 15 '08 Mexican Riv. Cruise

Brooklyn, can you believe we are on page 18!!!! Where is Sorcerer Mom? Remeber when you where just hoping we would get to page 11?

Welcome Greg! You and your wife will have an awesome time! My DH & I celebrated our 20th anniversary early on the ship last year. This year the whole family is celebrating something. My DD 17 is graduating on June 6th, Our 21st anniversary will have been on May 23rd, DS 4 turns 5 on June 28 and DS 14 turns 15 July 22. We're not leaving anyone out!!!!

Our first cruise last year was a surprise for our kids hence my screen name. We did a scavenger hunt at the end of the day on Christmas. The older two stayed up until midnight watching the video and talking, It was sooo much fun!

Success  One FE done, One to go!!!! Certainly not the most beautiful one but it should get the job done. I just need to find some pictures to decorate them. I bought iron on paper. Brooklyn, if you have any ideas, can you let me know. I want to do magnets for the doors as well. I can sew a fairly straight seam (if you don't look too closely :rotfl2: ) but creativity in the design area is a place I struggle.

Whew! I did it! I finished 3 FE's for the kids and they look pretty good if I do say so myself! (Just don't look too close at the stitching blush:) Just have to iron on one decal on the last FE.

Does anyone know how much room there is between the wall and the fish? I got some drapery cord but now worry it may be too wide. The diameter is probably the size of 3-4 straws tied together.

I found some great iron on stuff, Secretkeeper, at JoAnn's and some of it was on sale!

Now it's back to real work!

BTW - if I wanted to bring on water, soda or juice boxes, what is DCL's policy? Should I put it in my suitcase or carry on? When on RCCL, I put it in the checked stuff and it got to our room with no problem. I don't want to bring cases on board but maybe a couple of coke one and bottles of water. What's the line on Disney?

Has anyone with a GTY been assigned a room yet?

Any other stuff us "newbies to disney cruises" need to know?
I want to start my lists; it makes it easy for me to pack in the long run!

Thanks!!!:goodvibes

Thanks for the tip on Joann's. I have to find one. We live in the stix. We are so much in the stix that we just had Rodeo days this weekend and the Future Famers still give away a tractor to the most promising high school farmer. It's a different world from just 15 miles up the road in Urban San Diego!

As far as the water, the easiest way is to get one of those soft sided rolling coolers and fill it up-No Ice-. As far a carrying on a case, I don't see why not. However you will have to carry it until you get to you rooms which is at about 1:30. The nice thing with the rooling cooler is that your room attendent will keep it it filled with ice if you request it.

Another thing some people swear by is a over the door shoe holder for organization in the cabin. Everyone can have a couble of pockets to drop their stuff in. We didn't use one as we had two cabins so the kid sstuff did not take over.

Another quick tip is in regard to the safe in your room. Usually you use your room key to lock it but only the one whose card was used to do the actual locking can then open it. A way around this is to bring another card with a magnetic strip. We use a old hotel key and then hide it somewhere in the room so that no one is stranded with needing an item that was locked up!

Thanks for the warm welcomes. It has been so hard to keep this secret from her. I know she is going to be shocked.

My wife's name is Sherry. We don't have a room # yet, I will let you know as soon as I find out. I don't care what day I do the gifts. Just let me know what works out best for you and I will take it.

Brooklyn, those are nice very posters.

OK back to work

One thing my DH and I did on our last DC was the couples massage. The more expensive one is really long and they have a hot tub on a private balcony and its so relaxing and thats just the start. We loved it so much that each couple in our party this time is doing one (but the cheaper one which may not be as all out as that one was but I'll let you know). But it was a really cool experience! Also for Palo and the spa stuff you should really book before the trip. If you can't get it at this time, make sure to be one of the first on the ship and go directly to the booking location (the palo's booking was in the bar/lounge last time) first thing so you can beat the crowds. We got on last time at about 2pm and they were all out of reservations for both, but they waitlisted us and we got them both so the wait list is good too (make sure to mention if its a special occasion as that bumps you up on the list).

Joann's and ACMoore (I dont think they are in CA but they may ship there) have a good online catalog if you can't make it out to one. You can also google for coupons and typically find a code to use.

Wow did you make all those?! :woohoo: You are so creative!! I'm inspired to make some of my own now!!

Yes I made those. I am a bit MAGNET crazy!!! :rotfl:

Those are not even all of them....:surfweb:

If anyone needs help with the magnets let me know.

Hi All! OMG....Page 18!??!!! How terrfic is THAT! Sorry for not chatting yesterday....after a looonnnnggg day in the sun on Saturday (got burned big time - stupid me) and doing lots more yard work than I planned on Sunday....IN THE SUN (again, stupid me), I woke up with a huge headache :headache: yesterday morning (I get migrains) so I was not on the computer but thinking about what am I missin on the boards?? Tryin to catch up this morning - you guys have been busy! ;)

Are there any families out there that are going to get all dressed up for pirate night??? I got adorable outfits for our DD's. I am just not sure about DH and I.
We are getting dress-up...sort of. My DH is just not feelin it so I'm hoping he'll warm up to the idea of dressing up more on our next DC  once he sees how many people go all out. So, we're going to wear red and black shirts and jeans, the pirate bandanas, eye patches and I'm going to sneak in some pirate goofy ears on my husband (maybe he'll loosen up with a little rum...yo ho ho! :drinking:

Hello I’m Greg . I will be traveling with my wife Sherry. This will be our first Disney Cruise only she doesn’t know it yet. We were booked on Royal Caribbean Vision of the Seas but I just couldn’t resist changing our reservation to sail with Disney. We are both big fans, we have been to Disneyworld and Disneyland a few times. We have only been on a four night Royal Caribbean cruise before so this will be our first 7 night cruise. My wife is celebrating her 30th birthday on June 16th. I have been lurking on these boards for months and really wasn’t planning on posting but I really would like to be part of the Fish Extenders. I want my wife to have the full Disney experience and it seems like Fish Extenders are a lot of fun. I have already talked to a family friend and she feels she could make one so we will be all set. I will try to post as much as I can but I don’t always have access to a computer at work and it’s hard to post at night since my wife is home with me asking what I am looking at on the computer:rolleyes1 .

:welcome: Greg! What a great surprise for your wife! We'll be happy to play a part in making Sherry a full-on Disney fanatic! :woohoo: I feel the same way as you...I just couldn't book an RC cruise, even tho it was less $, when I knew the Disney Magic would be right beside us...my kids would've abandoned ship for sure :goodvibes

SO happy that everyones doing FE...:dance3:

Secretkeeper...my DD received your DD's e-mail and responded yesterday and she also received one from the other teen on the thread and wrote back too so it sounds like the teens are off to a great start.

Brooklyn...how'd your DD's audition go? That's so great...maybe we'll see her on Hannah Montana! :cutie: Both your kiddles are so beautiful!

Will catch-up more later....gotta go through my in-box which is enough to make me  again.

Sorcerer Mom - Yes it is so fun shopping for the Fish Extender Gifts!!!! It is so fun! I also wanted to ask if you requested seating alone or requested tablemates for dinner? I started this threat last night.... http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=24737595&posted=1#post24737595 I am worried with it being so late that i do not want tablemates that show up any later nad delay our dinner. It is already so late at 8:30 (but I am determined to get that rotation :rotfl: ). I also do not want to be left with completly out of control children. I like kids BUT I also think they need to behave. Ugh!!!! I just don't know what to do. :confused3
Hey there Brooklyn - I have been a complete nag to my TA about getting this 8:30pm seating 'cause, like you, I'm determined to get that rotation  and probably for the same reason....I wanted to be in Lumiere's on formal night and parrot cay on pirate night pirate: . We requested it when I booked the cruise (which seems like 100 years ago!). Since this was our first DC and our kids first cruise ever, we requested a table for 4pp. I'm not opposed to dining with others, especially our new DIS friends, as long as I keep that rotation. I know Secretkeeper thought she may want to request late seating too. Maybe we can see what rotations we get once on board and make requests at that time to be with folks we know? My friend who has cruised before said Disney is pretty good about making changes for families that have the same rotation after you board.

I can totally understand your fear of having to waiting for other folks to arrive to eat...that would not make me happy either and we're late eaters but when you're hungry, you're hungry...especially with little ones.

BTW, meant to tell you this morning that your magnets are fabulous!!! I can't wait to see your stateroom door!

I just read on the dinner rotation for Mexico board that they are now using the new menus and on formal night they were served Mexican  This was posted on 4/26/08. Doesn't seem very formal to me!

Hmmmm, I'm with you. Tacos with in a tux....not what we had in mind :scared1: :lmao:

I've been trying not to peek at the menus too much...but it's very hard to resist. With both me and DH being in the restaurant/hotel biz for so many years, we'll be trying multiple apps., entrees and desserts...can you say elastic wasteband????

How dressed up does do the ladies/teens get for formal night? Part of me wants to go all out but I don't want to over due it and look totally out of place...know what I mean? Help! What are you all planning?

   OMW THAT IS AWESOME!! :cloud9: The Mexican food on the East Coast is awful!!!!! so I always look for an excuse to eat In-N-Out and Mexican food on the West Coast.

Where do you find the menus?? My DH and DFIL love food and it will totally make the trip if I give them a menu before hand haha!

As for attire, Im wearing a long black dress. I can't remember what other people wore.

Here are the magnets I made, most of which I duplicated for our family. This was great fun! :) I can't wait to make the F :yay:

OK - it seems like everyone wants the PLLAPLA dinner rotation. What are the odds of all of us getting that? I guess I want it all...I want the 6p dinner with the PLLAPLA rotation which sounds like I have to give up something. I have a request for an earlier seating...should I call tomorrow and also request the PLLAPLA rotation? :confused3

Beautiful Magnets - How did you do them? I would be upset if we had to wait for other people as well. We are a family of 7. Thinking I should request a table for just us!

Where did you read that? Sorry, mexican food in a formal does not do wonders for me! :scared1:

We usually get pretty dressed up. I usually wear a long gown and my son has a dress shirt and tie. My Mom said she's wearing sequins and getting a party dress for my older niece. Don't know what my sister will wear but she usually dresses up and her little girl too. My BIL has worn a coat and tie in the past. :laundy:

YUCK! I might try to make an early reservation for Palo that night just incase. I am NOT a Mexican food fan at all! Igh!

can you say elastic wasteband????

I will wear a black dress but it will probably be 3/4 length, not floor length....DD will be fancy....they LOVE to dress up! Go all out! You will regret it is you didn't.

Yes, I would def call and request it! It is going to be the most popular. I am worried bc I have little ones I am not going to get it. We shall see though.

I wanted to check and see if anyone is interested in doing a group at Palo. We would need a minimum of 12 people to do it. It would be fun to have a DIS Meet in the private room at Palo.

Please let me know if anyone else is interested.

We would be up for that. How exactly does that work? Do the same rules apply as with any other time at Palo? When were you thinking of doing this?
