June 14, 2011 - Father's Day on the Wonder in ALASKA!

Drew,
Where are people staying the night before the cruise? I'm looking at the Pan Pacific for the night before & Whistler for the 2 nights before that. I'm finally getting in planning mode. :cool1:

I think we are going to come into Vancouver on Saturday before and then go to Victoria until Monday. Haven't called DCL yet to see what hotel is available Monday or the Tuesday we get back.

I've been looking at flights from Cleveland OH and we're probably going to take a hopper over the lake to Toronto and then fly direct on Air Canada. They at least allow one bag free!

Congrats on the bookings for port adventures.:banana:

Glad to hear that p adventures are up at midnight! I'll probably stay up and do that. Don't want to miss out on trying to get the trips we want.

Looks like are quite a few "silvers" on this trip :)

Janie {and dh is Tom}

My real name is Anne-Mineu was my 16 year old Siamese cat that had just died when I joined this forum-so, I like to link my love for her with my love for Disney :goodvibes In Skagway-we have the White Pass Railway and Trail Camp from 12:00-5:00; in Juneau we have the Best of Juneau from 9:45 to 4:15; and in Ketchikan we have the Lighthouse, Totems, and Eagles excursion from 11:45 to 3:15. Since my husband and older boys have abandoned ship :rotfl:-I won't get to Palo on this cruise:sad1:

By the way-I tried to refresh my cruise plans page last night at 11:01 my time (midnight their time) and was not able to book right away-I ended up logging off the reservation and then back on before my "book excursion" button became available. Hope this helps!

Mary:

I'll be happy to check closer to your booking window, just confirm the date that you want me to check.

We booked the following:

Palo Brunch (Day 3) 10:30am
Skagway: Disney Exclusive Liarsville Gold Panning
Juneau: Glacier Helicopter and Dog Sled
Ketchikan: Disney Lumberjack Show 4:30-6:30
Rainforest animal adventure 12:15-3:30

Note: You cannot book multiple excursions in a port unless there is at least 2 hours between them.

And, yes, my name is Amy.

Oh great spreadsheet master Drew: How many cabins are participating in FE so far?

I had a possible idea for a cabin/family gift, but I wanted to see where our rough numbers were at.

Amy--Thank you!

I'm most interested in the times of the excursions, so you already know which date right?? We're on the same cruise! :goodvibes :rotfl: It's really late so maybe I missed something. :rotfl2: I'm not as worried about Palo, I'm really flexible & had good luck getting ressies onboard too. We've actually lucked out & gotten a 2nd dinner ressie on our last 2 cruises. PM me & I'll tell you how if you are interested. Maybe as we get closer to the 15th, I'll actually have our choices narrowed down some more.

Thanks for the 1st names: Louise, Wendy (Welcome!), Anne, & Janie (it's been so long I forgot)!

Irishbear
are you going to tell us your name?? What's the Irish connection? I'm 100%--both parents born there & more relatives there than here.

I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone. :cool1: It makes the cruise so much more fun when you keep running into familiar faces. :flower3:

Yes, my husband says we are famous for the bourbon trail. J Daniels, J Beam, and MMark. We don't drink the stuff but can take FE gift requests.

Sorry Drew. Can't help with the gold. Just sold a bunch of old gold jewelry. Using it for excursion money. Everyone here is making big money doing that. All the teachers at school have done it. My mom in law made 900 on a few old herring bones. You all might try it. This trip has us pinching pennies.

As of this moment we have 17 cabins participating. :thumbsup2

There are several families that have two staterooms, but only one is participating. "Sunshine State Kim" has four staterooms participating.

A reminder to all, if you want to see a list of the FE participants, I keep it updated regularly in the very first post on this thread. I encourage you to check and verify that I have your information listed as correct.

boogie70 and wendy151950, as I recall I am in need of your stateroom numbers (and e-mail addresses, if you want the Excel spreadsheet). Please send me a PM at your convenience. ;)

:rotfl2: Thanks for the thoughts...trust me, I fully understand. And I truly didn't think about the liquor in KY, since I rarely drink myself (if you are lucky, you may spot me with an evening cocktail a couple of nights in the rotation).

I was talking to the family about Pirates in Alaska & how something didn't fit. It would be cooler if Brother Bear was still popular. Anyone else a fan of Brother Bear?

Are there any other Disney movies or old cartoons w/ an Alaska connection?

We aren't actually Irish or Bears. My husband went to Cal Berkeley - Golden Bears, and I went to Notre Dame. Go Irish! So I consider myself Irish in a way. My name is Alisa, DH Tom, DS (14) David and DD (12) Katie. We are silver so waiting for March 16th to book all of our excursions. We are looking at the Takshanuk 4X4 in Skagway, either the Pilot's choice or one of the Dog Sledding things in Juneau and one of the Zip-line Adventures in Ketchikan. We live in California so does that mean we can book at 9:00PM on March 15th?

There were pirates in Alaska pirate: :

"The Fish Pirates
In Ketchikan's early days, a "fish pirate" was something of a hero to the workingmen of the town. Canneries obtained large amounts of fish by capturing them in mechanical floating traps. Ketchikan fishermen considered these traps to be a threat to their livelihood, and any means to swindle the canneries was discreetly celebrated. Even when the canneries hired watchmen to guard the traps, they were pilfered, either by cunning or a simple bribe to the watchman to take a stroll. Many a fish pirate would steal salmon and sell those same fish back to the cannery he had just robbed! Witnesses could never seem to be found, and sympathetic juries often released scoundrels who were caught. The hardy days of pirating ended with statehood in 1959, when traps were deemed illegal." :banana:im a banana, im a banana, im a banana; look at me move!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Note the above commentary is from my DS 14 Liam!

Since I was told there would be no Pirate Night on our cruise, and so was my TA... and then some of you were told there would be a Pirate Night... I figure it'll just be a surprise at this point! :rotfl: It honestly doesn't really matter too much to me, but I think it's funny that we are all given conflicting information (if it were about something more serious, I wouldn't find it funny though!).

Mary & Liam -- thanks for the info on "fish pirates." Maybe they should work that into the show somehow...

I never thought you were bears....although that would make bear sightseeing a bit easier. :rotfl::rotfl2:

Yes, 9:00 pm sounds right, since midnight is Eastern time.

Hi Alisa:

I'm off to Notre Dame Friday. My son will be in a regional dive meet there. Any must sees while we are there this weekend?

Amy

Amy,

I am so jealous. Although this is not the best time to visit weather-wise. If it is nice enough, just walk around the campus. It is beautiful. Obviously the Dome building and the Basilica - be sure to go inside. The grotto is a nice spot especially if you are religious. There are 2 lakes as well which make for a nice walk. If you are having a meal on campus - South Dining Hall is beautiful.

let me simplify my group a little. Can you combine my room #1 (Todd &Kim) with room #4 (Savannah & Carter). We just have 1 FE anyway so no need to create more work. My other 2 rooms are my parents and my brother and his family. My brother's never cruised before and my parents cruised once, but didn't know anything about FE. They'll have so much fun!

Hi, Kim...I think I understand what you mean, but I just want to make sure (before I change the lists). Your family will have three staterooms participating:

1) with you, Todd, Savannah, and Carter. Will that FE be at your room, or Savannah & Carter's?
2) one for your parents, and
3) one for your brother and family

I just want to make sure that I'm crossing off the correct stateroom number that you sent in the PM. :thumbsup2

Thanks again!

Alisa:

Thanks for the information. We aren't sure how much time my son will have off, but we should have a few hours on Saturday. We are looking forward to the trip.
