Jumping on the Comcast DVR question bandwagon...

We got the Comcast Motorola DVR about 3 weeks ago and are having problems with the TV or DVR sound being muted. For example, on Tuesday nights I'll set the DVR to record NCIS from 7 to 8. We get home from my daughter's dance class at 7:20 and we'll try to watch another program since I don't want to watch the end of NCIS. We can change channels ok without messing up the NCIS recording but the sound is muted. I have to stop the NCIS recording and turn both the TV and DVR off and then back on to get the sound back. Has anyone else had this problem? Or does anyone know how to fix it?

Thanks for any help.

I would contact comcast directly and tell them your issues. We have had it for at least 6 months as have my parents and we haven't had any problems like you are describing. The only problem we had is if we accidentally turned off the dvr instead of the tv..when we'd turn it back on it would just be black so we would have to go into something we recorded and watch about 15 seconds of it and then the picture would come back. Your problem sounds like a faulty Motorola box. Is this something that just started or has it happened since getting the box? I would really call comcast or if you have one close by your house or work stop in and talk to them about it. Heck I'd even take the box with me if you were going to stop in and tell them if it's the box you want to exchange it.

Sorry I'm not of more help but this seems to be just a glitch in that box. Hopefully you can get it figured out.

It's been doing this ever since we got the box. I called Comcast the first time I noticed it, but I never could make the very young person that answered the call understand what it was doing. There is an office near work so next time there's not a really long line I'll stop in and see what they say. I was hoping that it wasn't the box because I've already got a ton of stuff recorded that I haven't watched yet!

Thanks for your help, hydster.

I feel your pain with having stuff that you recorded and might lose. We had Tivo before we got a new hdtv dlp television. The Tivo was awesome and so much easier to use than the comcast but would only let you record 1 show instead of 2. We had a ton of stuff on it and it just died. The computer hard drive took a dive so we lost all of it, had to pay to get it fixed and shipped back and then banished it 2 weeks later because we bought a 61 inch dlp television in a weak moment and we wanted to record in HD so we signed up for the comcast dvr.

I hope it's something easy to get fixed but I swear comcast hires monkies to be their help desk people. I can't tell you how many times I've been hung up on or had no help at all. I decided from now on I will go into the office and explain to them or bring it with me and tell them to hook it up and see for themselves.

I hope you can get it fixed soon!
