Any advice for new family members to the Disneyworld experience? I am getting married(everything-ceremony to reception is indoors) and my dad (never been to Disney) is claiming he may die of heat exhaustion
(he's only 52!). Why would I plan my wedding in July? I think it's because I am the devil and since I'm paying for the entire wedding, I get amusement from making him suffer. SO NOT TRUE! What I was thinking at the time though.
I would like to keep him happy and as cool as possible. Any ideas would be great....
Thanks.

We are also getting married in July. I'm worried about the heat and am planning on staying in air conditioned rooms for as long as possible. My DF is wearing a light weight suit for the wedding but I don't really know what else to suggest.

Honestly the heat isn't that bad. I mean yes it is hot, but Disney totally takes care of it. At the hotels everything is in a/c. At the parks you are in line under shade or inside with a/c. If you are having your wedding at the wedding pavilion its perfect because it is completely inside but the ceiling to floor windows makes it feel like you are sitting outside.

Just before you plan on being outside all day make sure you put sunscreen on (spf 50 is my personal choice, but thats also from living in FL for 10+ years) keep a water bottle with you and also a hat. At the parks there are a few cooling stations that have misting fans and such. Nobody should die from heat exhaustion.

Good luck! Plus I would have to say August is worse than July for heat.

Outside it will be hot and humid. for the days that everyone is going to the parks, go in early, get as much done as possible and then go back to the room to chill by the pool. Then go back to the parks in the evening when it cools off.

For the day of the wedding, if everything is inside you will be fine!

Because my mom was a teacher, we went to Disney in July or August every year. Yes, it was hot, but it definitely not unbearable. We actually enjoyed it. We even took my 70 year old grandmother one year, and while she did say she found it warm, she walked through all the parks every day for a week with us and was fine. You're in and out of air conditioning so much that you really don't mind the heat!

Sorry to hear that your dad is complaining so much. I'm sure he'll come around once he actually gets there.

We learned how to prevent heat exhaustion after one vacation in July in WDW when my mother got heat stroke (she fully recovered, so it's ok!). If your dad is really worried, you can tell him the best preventative measures to prevent heat exhaustion or heat stroke are: A. Drink a lot water and non-caffeinated beverages that can dehydrate you, B. Eat things with lots of potassium (like bananas) because the potassium helps you keep water in thus keeping you hydrated, and C. avoid extreme changes in temperature very quickly (i.e. stepping out of the hot tub and jumping into a cool pool).

It's funny that the first thing people think about is how it effects them! I had a bridesmaid say- you're having a wedding outside in may? At the time I was planning on a may wedding but we moved it up three weeks for cooler weather. Maybe give him a cool, damp hankercheif he can dab his forehead with during the ceremony. Or wrap it around his neck in a sneaky manner.

ok i noticed your location in your name and your from NJ....being a northeaster and having my wedding in July as well i can tell you that on the day of my wedding it was cooler n Fl that it was back home in NY. by 10 degrees. lol
So tell him that.

on teh day of you don't really notice it - its hot but if you have to have your wedding there what can you do? its fine as things are airconditioned. only issue is outdoor photos and we did those quick and in the shade when possible.

It really shouldn't be much different than NJ, and if it's inside that's good!

My BIL got married in July in Florida when I was 7 months pregnant. The wedding part was fine. We also did a few days at Disney and Universal & those were hot!

We froze washcloths overnight to carry around and drank a lot of water!

Very good info. Sorry to hear you were preggo in the summer. I was too back in 1997... Yuck. My dad is a wuss and as he calls himself an air conditioned gypsy. He is leaving the day after b/c he can't hang like the rest of the family!
