July reservations so tight. Will they loosen or just get worse?

As we all know it's very difficult to book just about anything at WDW this summer. I generally book through Davids Vacation Club to get 2 Bedroom Villa's. It always saves me money over booking direct. That being said, Davids is not user friendly when trying to make the literally dozens of possible changes to dates, properties etc during these difficult booking times. They are more geared to submit your request, it's available, and book.

So. I have found a few configurations that would work, but before I start making the commitment with Davids, (If it's available, they book it, no more changes). I have a question.

For July availability at WDW, will we see more things show up due to cancellations or people dropping their booked reservations (usually 200 dollars, refundable), or will we just see things tighten up even more? My current configurations are not optimal and I know I'd be grouchy if I made those non-changeable commitments only to see other things open up due to "put up or cancel" reservations that everyone has made. Sure wish I could be a different time of year, but kids are older and have school and obligations.

Is it really that tight when July is only 3 months away? I booked my July reservations in January and availability was plentiful. I suppose things are tighter than in the past few years - the thinking is that more points have been banked recently than normal and owners are now using them.

While it's possible something will open up, waiting even longer is probably not for the best. If you need the flexibility, try to work with an owner on the rental board here at the DIS. Some of the owners there might be willing to be more flexible than the big brokers. Just be up front with them on what you are trying to accomplish.

Thanks for your reply. I noticed your avatar is WL. Have you stayed BRV or CCV? We are considering this for the first time. My concerns are transportation from that resort. We always stayed GF or Poly for monorail to MK for ease when the kids were young. Now they are all 20's/teens it's easier but I don't want to feel trapped at WL. Thoughts?

I have stayed at both. I enjoy the boat ride to MK but it's not as quick as the monorail. As long as you allocate some extra transit time you'll be fine. The draw for the Lodge is you get that secluded feeling yet the MK is just a boat ride away.

David’s deals with DVC reservations. These are just reservations booked by owners using their points and that is the reason why they are strict with the policy as points have expiration dates.

Cancellations are not the same as when booking with Disney. Most likely what is available will only continue to get booked up as we get closer to summer because rooms not booked 60 days out are sent to Disney for those to be offered for cash guests.

The thing with DVC is that things do change often so we don’t even allow people to even post real time availability since it can change so often.
