I hope I don't get hung for asking this....is it a bad idea to plan a trip to WDW in the month of July or August? I know it will be hot and crowded but vacation time off is very limited for our group. Thanks.

We always go in August because I am a teacher and have to go in the summer. We are always at the parks at rope drop. We alternate outdoor attractions with indoor, air conditioned ones. We carry wet washcloths in a bag to freshen up with. We have misting fans. We leave the park after lunch and return to hotel for rest/swim break. We then head back to the parks in the early evening for round 2. Also, you can get free ice water at counter service locations. Make sure you stay hydrated.

Is it really hard to get on the rides? My guess is the lines are really long. Do the parks close early? I was told they close early and that didn't make any sense.

Here is the link to the calendar, you can use the calendar icon at the top of the page to change to the date you want to see what park hours are. I would say that staying onsite if possible to take advantage of early and evening Extra Magic Hours would help greatly. Have a great trip.

www.easywdw has crowd calendars.

Many times the parks close early because crowds are lower. We are going last week of August as we are also in the boat of kids in school and other things "forcing" us to it.

First time for us in a very long time so I am making lots of plans.

We visit in August due to school and sports commitments too. This year we are visiting in July. August is much better in terms of crowds. You learn to just use common sense. Try to stay out of the mid-day sun (unless you are in a pool! ;) ) by using mornings and evenings as your prime theme park time. Try to eat lightly --- salads, yogurt, sandwiches....ice cream.....Dole Whips. And yes, hydration is key. I like to add Crystal Light to my water bottle. You will learn lots of tips right here. Have a great time!

We have been in July and this will be our second time in August. It is HOT but manageable if you follow the tips given in this thread.

Thank you all for helping me feel better about a summer trip. We went in Sept '08 for the first time. The crowds were not bad at all. We went to DL in June '13 and '14 (we just got home and I'm having Disney depression. ) We want to go back to WDW now. We live in CO so it takes a while for us to get used to the heat/humidity. I appreciate all the responses.
