what to do on black Friday? as we are moving to another hotel for 4 pm?

Scottishwee35

one of my favorite museums is the American Museum of Natural History. as a kid we would take day trips to the city and visit the museum. Also you can try visiting the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Frick or Guggenheim Museums. If it is a nice day out, go and explore Central Park, or go see some of the little niches all over the city like Little Italy or Greenwich Village. I posted a link for you. It is more info than you need but can give you lots of ideas!!!

I have a picture of me on top of the World Trade Center from 1998. You can see the other tower behind me. My DH and I honeymooned in Europe but spent a few days in the city before our trip. Been to the top of the Empire State Building, as well as the Top of the Rock which is Rockafeller Center.

NYC is my favorite city. London is a close second along with Paris. Really looking forward to spend time in London precruise. We will wait a little longer before spending time in Paris. We want Jack to be old enough to appreciate it. I would really want to visit Chicago!!! Probably in the next year or so.

hi

for anyone who lives in NEW YORK...

I have been booking the flights and two hotels on 24 November for 5 days with 5 ladies..

I believe that there will be Black Friday:

What are we doing on Black Friday??

Also about thanksgiving we would love to watch parade..

after that where should we go for nice meals...

I would be happy if anyone can help me...

It would be really appreciated...

and 18 months to go to Baltic Cruise - next year woo hoo:banana:

Tavern on the Green is supposed to be a very nice, popular restaurant.

Sorry to hear that. You'll be missed. Did anyone take over the website? I've got a little informational site going for my own reference and plans... similar to what I did for our 7/7/07 for those of you who were with us and may remember it. i may be able to combine thw two into one...??

Jeff

Have not heard of anyone taking over, so feel free! Thanks for offering..

I booked Grand Hyatt hotel which is not far from Grand Central Station.

I know that hotel. You're less that a 10 minute stroll from Ben & Jacks, 2 blocks up and 2 blocks over.

We also enjoyed a great sushi house just about a block and a half northwest of Times Square. If I remember the name, I'll let uou know. I'm thinking it was something like 48th & 8th.

The name Hakata comes to mind for the sushi joint.

Being from Chicago, I'm obligated to warn you that good pizza doesn't exist in New York City. ;)

hi scottist wee

i live in nj, right outside nyc - and can recommend a few things for that weekend -

the parade is cool to watch - but depending on the weather you may have to get a spot early - and you all should think on what you want to watch - the parade does 'march down the street' but there are perfomances in front of macy's - maybe your hotel could get you a location at macy's if you want to watch this - or you can be just on the street for the rest of the parade -

also if you're in the night before the parade committee inflates the balloons then - this is also a special event for people to watch -

black friday is the day after thanksgiving when stores try to sell enough product that their financials are in the 'black' - so there are a lot of sales - and a lot of people are out - what should be crowded will depend on the financial conditions and what is the popular items for that holiday season - i've found that some restaurants are not as bad as others just because the stores in those areas are not as crowded - i think that when you get to the hotel the desk would be able to tell you what they expect would be better for your group - we like going to trump tower ourselves because it's opulent - but at times it's busy and at times it's not - we also like to eat at the hotels on these types of days because some restaurants also have limited menus -

there are the typical tourist locations that you may also want to check out - rock. center, bryant part, central park, the zoo, the museums, and there are small restaurants at those locations - it would really depend on what you like - even though we know a lot of places we always do the touristy things at the holiday times -

in jersey there are a good number of places to visit - either near the hotel or taking light rail - we go up a little north on the light rail to arthurs so that we can view the city but also the bridge and cruise ships as they come in and out - in between hoboken has a couple of good eclectic restaurants -

as you get closer and know more of what you want to do i can find more places to go -

Regarding the website we had. I sent Keggy a PM and found out the website no longer exists. They deleated it because I didn't reply fast enough. Sorry.

Is there interest in one? I'm building a personal reference site with alot of tips I get from the thread here... wathcing other threads as well. I've added a "Castaway" page if people want to share pictures, cabin numbers... dinner times etc... We could use it to plan our DisMeet others things.

Thoughts?

Here's the link if you want to see the start of it.

I think that would be fantastic! It is nice as we get closer and want to add something of interest in there to "bookmark" and have a reference page, too. Thanks again for offering to do this!

Monstro (aka Jeff) has graciously offered to take over our web presence with details about the cruise and us Castaways. If you want your traveling party's info included, send pictures and info to Monstro via a PM or email to jc23@comcast.net.

I included this info in the first post of the thread so it will be in a convenient location.

Jeff - thanks so much for taking this on!

haven't posted much on here, but wanted to stop by and say HI. I'm really starting to plan my upcoming back-to-back cruise Febuary 21st-March 7th, 2009 so I am really busy making money for things to buy on the trip and clothes shopping:goodvibes :cool1:

Hiya DMMarla - how nice to see you here! Wow - back-to-backs to look forward to - how very very fun!

1st let me say Happy New year to all!

It's so sad to read that people are cancelling. I completely understand. The economy is scary and it's alot of money to spend on something nonessential.
We talked about it and really really want to go! So, we made concessions. No trips this year and we watch what we spend. I want to diet anyway, so I can eat less! I just booked our hotel in London! It's great to be able to refer to this trip as "next year". :)

Thanks for taking this on, Jeff!

The compulsive side of me quickly "copied & pasted" the page on Keggy's website that had cruiser info and pics. I have it in a Word document and would be more than happy to send it to you. I'll need your email address so I can attach the document - you can send that to me through a PM if you'd like.

What a smart cookie you are! Thanks for thinking of that!

How fun to see some of our sailing mates! Jeff, I like how you're setting us up by Deck - that will definitely be handy later on.

Isn't that what we're doing? That is also the name of our wiki page where our cruise info will be. Chasing_the_mouse/destination: Baltic Sea :cool1:

A wiki is cool in that anyone (given permission) can edit or contribute. If you just want to read and look, you can, but if you want to post comments, or edit/add full content you need to be given permission by the administrator. Lucky for you all, I know him. :goodvibes All that is required is a first name (fictious or not - mine is monstro) and an email. Just request permission from me and tell me if you want to be a reader with the ability to add comments or a writer with the ability to add and edit full content.

Check it out! here is the link.

I have (thanks to Deb T.) a word document with pictures from the previous site. I don't want to post pictures without permission. If you had pictures on the previous site and would like me to use that picture on our new site, let me know. It will be easy to add it in.

Thanks.

In case you are wondering, the pictured cruisers Monstro is referring to are:
denise
CarolAnnC, Crissup, & DisTeach
APinCA
OurDogCisco
goingsouth
Calif_Disney_1
Thistle
MN_Dis_Fans
scottishwee35
sharper_fin
DadofLostBoys

Also, I had noticed that there were a few discrepencies in cabin numbers between what had been posted on Keggy's site and what had been posted on this thread: sharper_fin, kiddisney, DadofLostBoys, and Calif_Disney_1. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know... I AM compulsive. :upsidedow Anyhoo, you might want to resubmit your correct cabin numbers to Monstro so that the FE Fairy can find you! :flower3:
