July 5, 2011 - Mickey's WONDERful Alaskan Adventure

Tracy I was diagnosed with Stage 3 colon cancer in early 2009. So i know all about the roller coaster. If there is anything I can do to help you or Rolfe please let me know either here or via pm. In the meantime I've added him to my prayers.

I've added you both to my prayer list. I've had several friends fighting or who have fought the same battle.

2 years ago, my family was scheduled to go on the Magic for a wonderful get away. I planned every detail for over a year.(insurance was purchased) 2 weeks before the trip, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. My family wanted me to cancel the cruise. I left it up to the doctors. Most of the doctors thought the cruise was a good ideal. I couldn't get operated on until 3- to 4 weeks.

2 weeks before my cruise, instead of shopping for the cruise items, I was shopping for Doctors, hospitals, and fine combing my insurance plan, getting pre tests for the my surgery. I was busy with all of above up to the minute we left.

In all honesty, I left my cancer home for the trip, Disney had a way of doing this. I am so glad I went. I was so entertained, I rarely thought of my cancer on the trip.

Incidentally, I was operated on the day after I came back. I woke up in recovery filling nauseated & told the recovery room nurse, the ship is rocking so bad, I feel sick. The nurse reminded me I was not on a ship, and I just had the surgery.

For me it was the right decision.

Good for you! I hope this finds you cancer free and just in the monitoring stage.

In 2009 when I was diagnosed we had reservations for a stay in the Ft. Wilderness cabins in May (I was diagnosed in January). Since that was in the middle of my chemo rotation we canceled as I didn't know how I'd be feeling. We also had the DVC Member Cruise and road trip scheduled for September. That was supposed to be after my chemo. As it turns out I finished my last chemo (due to some delays) just two weeks from sailing. Still that trip was something I was really looking forward to and meeting up with old and new friends made the trip even more special.

It was my last chemo and I was bound and determined to make the trip. Of course if you ask Mark he'll tell you that he was scared to death the whole time. We did change things up. For one we had a couples cabana massage scheduled and changed it to a single massage on the ship for him as I still had my port in and was still on coumadin. I also had to wear a hat any time I was outside because while I didn't lose my hair it got really thinned out and if I didn't I would have a burnt scalp.

I was very blessed to have so many praying for me both in the current group I was sailing with and also older friends from a previous cruise. That latter group even arranged a virtual DIS meet with two couples meeting us for lunch at the Yacht Club and the rest sending in cards wishing us well. Here's a picture from that lunch.

I am looking forward to this trip and i have talked to dad the other day and let him know about the others on here. will be nice for him to know hes not alone. he is worried about traveling with all the affects from the chemo as he has his last one right before our cruise as well.

We sail in 21 weeks!

Hi everyone,

We just decided about a week ago that we will be going on this cruise too! I have just gotten off of the Dream and was able to rebook some rooms for us. We will be a big group of 31 in 9 staterooms---having a family reunion. I am super excited as I have never done an Alaskan cruise before!

None of the others in our group has been on a Disney cruise before (many haven't even cruised before) and are not DISers, but I am and would love to participate in the FE exchange. :goodvibes

There will be myself (Michelle), DH, DS18, DD17, DD14 and DS9. So far, we are in rooms #2558 and #2560.

Wow, that's some party!!

We are offically paid in full, well at least to Disney anyway. Visa is another story!!! So looking forward to this trip! We're having a great time trying to decide which shore excursions, too many great choices, not enough days in the ports!!!

Welcome Michelle!!! I have been reading the reports about the Dream (the good bad & ulgy) Can't wait to pick your brain about the ship in person.

Wow 31 people PHEW.....are you booking this for everyone? I booked 20 of us for our Wonder family Thanksgiving cruise a few years back. It was alot of work.

We are offically paid in full, well at least to Disney anyway. Visa is another story!!! So looking forward to this trip! We're having a great time trying to decide which shore excursions, too many great choices, not enough days in the ports!!!

Good for you!!! We paid ours off in December, and booked decent airfares from EWR to Vancouver with Continental. Did you get your air as of yet?

We were on the Magic last February presidents. One big problem the Magic was stuck in Castawy Cay due to storms on the Saturday that we were to leave. A 7 night cruise turned out to be a 6 night. Disney gave us a 20% discount, and 200.00 on board credit per person for future cruises. We booked Alaska. I will be traveling with a teen my DD who will be 17 at the time of the cruise.

Early on I was told there was to be a high school graduation party on our date. Has anyone else heard this?

We are now paid in full! Ready to book Palo/Spa/Excursions on March 7th. :dance3::dance3::dance3:

Yeah Mary and Mark!

We aren't paid in full be we do have our flights :goodvibes Does anyone know when people who have been on 4 past cruises get to book excursions? :confused3
