July 30, 2010 Mickey's Adventures England to Espana Cruise

Only 30 days left. I cant wait.

To do list for next week, currency exchange. Need to order some British Pounds and Euro's. Sometimes they take a week or two if you get them from a bank/Credit Union. trying to figure out how much of each is the toughest part.

I obviously don't have to order the pounds but we are going to order some Euros soon. I have tried to do a little plan of what we want to do in each port to work it out - we are not planning on any DCL excursions so will pay locally for almost everything.

I have also bought all the dollars we need for our shipboard account and had them added to my pre paid dollars mastercard.

Very excited that I can say we are sailing THIS month!

As you all know we were umming and ahhing over the Aug 7th Med cruise and had decided to leave it until we got onboard to decide - well the cat 12 rate has disappeared and although it would have been great as we hadn't been able to come to a definite decision I am sort of glad that DCL made my decision for me!

:cheer2: Picked up our documents today from AAA. Makes the trip finally seem real!! Last items to do are exchange money and contact the credit card company to let them know we are traveling oversees.

Florida is steamy today at 89 degrees. The Atlantic Ocean has also dropped to 72 degrees making the water cold for us natives. Hot and dry summer for us...

LOL - take a dip in the English Channel before you board at Dover and you may soon change your mind about the "cold" water in Florida!

Is that better than paying for it on credit card and our bank converting the dollars?

Depends on your bank. they offer different exchange rates and some charge a fee for each transaction - not so bad when cruising and paying a one off amount on your shipboard account but it would have added up to a lot when we were in Florida last year and charging everything tot he card.

We use www.fairfx.com I found them from recommendations on the UK Trip Planning forum here on the Dis. They generally have a better interest rate than most currency exchange places. You pre load the card in advance so then when you are paying for something you know the funds are already there and there is no wondering what rate you will get on that day.

I like it because it keeps my holiday money separate too - as we earn naff all interest on savings at the moment it doesn't bother me that I am not earning interest on it - I can see how many dollars I have and they are safely tucked out the way so can't accidentally use the holiday money to pay the window cleaner or whatever!!!

Trivia for the day: I just found out Gibraltar has its own currency. I had no idea. Sounds like most businesses there accept the Euro as well, but the official currency is?

Answer: the Gibraltar Pound.

Also, if you are staying in London before hand and have some British Pounds to use then you can use those very easily in Gibralter.

make sure you don't leave with gibraltar pounds as they are worthless anywhere other than Gib x:goodvibes

Same thing overhere: today 37°C (98,6F) that's much to much, pfffffffffft
Last Weekend we we're in Disneyland Paris, and spend a whole lot off our time at the swimmingpool in our hotel (Newport Bay Club). During the day it was also very hot!
Sunday we leave for Papenburg to take a look at the new Disney Dream...

We are B2B'ers too. Almost three weeks on the Magic was too good to pass up!

:surfweb:Hi,
We are B2b'ers too!
Booked yesterday at the great cat 12 price!
Does any one have any idea when we will receive our cabin numbers?
DS is off to Uni in the UK in September,so am looking forward to spending a little time with him before he flies the nest.
Any other singles or lone parents traveling with children care for some company at Palo for brunch ?
Looking forward to meeting everyone.

Answer: the Gibraltar Pound.
:surfweb:Hola,
the only place you will need Pounds is the Post Office to buy stamps.
Go on, ask me some trivia questions about Gibraltar!(We live in Spain,about 30 mins drive to Gib}
