It's such an odd feeling now . . . starting to say "goodbye" to so many people in the only form we've actually ever gotten to know them . . . and getting ready to say "hello" in person although feeling we know everyone so well already. Quite surreal in some ways! Of course you know Elizabeth Barrett and Robert Browning eloped having only gotten to know each other through a series of clandestine, forbidden letters . . . shows you the power of the written word. I wonder if in some ways we are the distillation of who we really are when we write -- not distracted by the setting, clothes, etc. -- I'm not sure but I have been thinking about it recently.

As you've said before, it goes against your nature to correspond like this with people you don't know. DH& I were just talking about this two nights ago. He is puzzled by my interaction on the boards because it is also very unlike me. I tried to explain to him that it's amazing how, through casual conversation, you can get to know personalities, likes/dislikes, personal interaction, etc. We are all equal on this board; we have nothing to materially gain by making these friendships. We probably became "friends" with people that we normally would just pass by for various reasons. It really brings you back down to earth and reinforces my general belief: most people are really nice if you get the chance to really listen to them! I can't say that I would ever do this again, but every once in awhile, the sun, moon, and stars align and a group of people get together and form a bond that is special. I think that is what we have here. :hippie:

Now that I have gotten all soupy, let me continue by wishing safe trips to all leaving soon. Can't wait to meet you all next week!

How true. Through work I have met people on the phone and spoken to them many times on a regular basis. We get quite friendly and then sometimes it can be awkward to meet them for the first time in person. THat's one of the reasons I'm glad that many people posted photos. Other than Helen ( who I will always thinks must look like Bon Jovi) I have an idea of who everyone is.

Some of us are starting to leave and it is a little strange to be saying goodbye. I'm looking forward to meeting and seeing everyone in Barcelona and on the ship. I pray for safe travels for everyone.

See you soon,
Sandra

Hi....I am not on your cruise but will be on the TransAtlantic back. I am travelling with Laura....Eeyorlvr10....on the return trip.

Anyway...I was wondering if any of you have ordered Euros to take with you? How did you figure out how much you needed? I need to go to the bank in about an hour so I can go ahead and get them ordered but have no clue as to how much I need.:confused3 I am travelling alone, am only signed up for 2 DCL excursions and will hopefully be using my credt/debit card for most major purchases.....such as souveniers.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks!
Pam

Hello all,

This is my first post on the infamous DIS-Boards.

Our cruise is fast approaching and the anticipation level rising by the moment…

Have we remembered to pack everything, will the flight be delayed, will the weather be good, etc. etc. etc…

My DW is afraid of flying and we are about to cross an ocean in the air. While I don’t have any particular concerns for the air travel I do respect that this is a MONUMENTAL undertaking for her. As an unabashed Disney-addict the only thing that could have compelled her to travel to the ends of the earth and fly over an ocean is a chance to visit with a mouse in red pants!

No dear I’m still not getting red-pants with GOLD buttons or, doing anything in those puffy white gloves!!!

You know time is running out and all the planning and preparation will soon be over. Trust me it had better be OVER SOON!

I know there’s been a lot of discussion and sharing of information here THANK YOU all. I’m looking forward to meeting, greeting and sharing this adventure with all of you.

I have the TEE-Shirt and suppose I must wear it.

Regards,

Russ

I got 350 euros, I wasn't sure what to get so I hope that's not too much (I didn't want to stand in line or have any hassles with ATMs) I can still get more the other ways but I just wanted a few for tips, etc.:confused3

Hi all! I know I havent been on here much but I just wanted to say that the PDF that was put together is awesome!!

Maryann--you and Julie have both said so much of what I have been thinking and as my dh puts it--"she's in her Mickey mode". We have a Mickey bedroom that has a Mickey switchplate that plays Small World and several other Disney tunes as you switch it off. It is quite old and for some reason has stopped working. Out of the clear blue, it began working last night. I told dh it was "The Mouse" calling us! He is so good to put up with my whimsie!! He knows I will cry when I see the ship and when that whistle blows, I will cry again! It is just me---and making all of these new friends is just another part of the magic. It could only happen on a Disney Cruise. I tell all of our friends there is nothing like it and everyone on this board just goes to prove it! The friends we are meeting in Barcelona to cruise with we met on a Disney Cruise and this will be our 5th cruise together. Doesn't that say enough.

To everyone leaving now--Safe journey--we will see you soon! Love those words!!:cool1:

Last minute check for anyone meeting at the Grand Marina on Friday night..if your name is not on the list and you want to join us, please PM me....Thanks!

Thanks! This helps me to decide. I think I will start off with about 200 and if I need more I will just have to get in line at an ATM. I hope all of you have a great trip....Cant wait to Bring the Magic Home in a few weeks!!!!

I have about 315 euros - I wanted a few more but the lady at the branch made a mistake. Another long story. We are five people and have all DCL excursions 5 out of 6 lunch included. We plan on using this only for tipping, ice cream, water/soda, bathroom charge (if any). Otherwise we will be using our atm/debit card (or Visa) for any other purchases.

Hi Russ,

Welcome to the boards - is it too late for you to get addicted? :coffee:

Hi Pam; I'm a friend of Laura's and will be with you on the repo (we will both be in the private Palo brunch) . . . I only got a few hundred euros so that I have some money when I first get to Barcelona and plan to get more from ATMs while there. As long as you check with your bank that your card will work and alert them as to where you will be going, it should be fine.

Russ

Hi Russ, "infamous" are we? Sounds pretty cool, so we'll take it . . .

Sure we can't convince you to rethink the Mickey clothes concept? We'd love to see you show up at the Dismeet so attired!

No shame involved in sentimental tears, Harole Ann, they show the depth of your heart! Yes, see you soon . . .

Sorry about this in advance, hands over your ears!
